  1. He hasn't done that since his debut season in 2019. It's possible but an ERA of 4 is more likely.
  2. They're bidding on Yamamoto, not on Ohtani.
  3. Actually those teams will spend closer to $250M and the difference will be that the Twins want a payroll at about half of the top 10 spenders. That will force the Twins to buy talent with prospects and make the rebuilding seasons between contending windows worse or settle for never really building a team that can be expected to win in the playoffs. Consistent mediocrity or boom/bust - that's the choice. They can't be consistently excellent with a payroll in the bottom third.
  4. I'm lucky I don't get bruises from slapping my forehead every time Dan Gladden talks.
  5. This is correct. I get so tired of seeing people's take that every single free agent contract makes the player "overpaid". The percentage of revenue that goes to the players has been falling for over a decade and the value of MLB teams has been increasing faster than inflation for even longer. It's long overdue to make the MLB minimum salary $1M.
  6. I think the Brewers are a good trade partner for several reasons. First, they seem to have what the Twins need to compete in 2024. Second, the Brewers are going to value players at about the same level as the Twins. Third, the Brewers should be targeting 2025 as the opening of another competitive window so they will be interested in the Twins upper level prospects. I would love to see the Twins acquire Burnes. The Brewers are going to be hesitant to let him go because he will return a first round pick in 2025. The Twins have a competitive balance pick in 2024 they can trade in exchange for Burnes. That would align better with Milwaukee's plans for contention by bringing in talent earlier. It's a way the Twins can exchange draft picks in a trade. I doubt the Brewers will be as interested in Polanco as another team. The Twins may be better off selling Polanco to someone else.
  7. No, it's never a good idea to give away surplus value. If they want to give away either contract they can put them on waivers at any time and they will at least get the waiver claim money.
  8. If Atteberry as the main guy convinces Dan to leave that would be a win.
  9. If I didn't trust my POBO to buy free agents I would FIRE him.
  10. If they offered games for free the ad revenue would skyrocket. Twins baseball would be the #1 rated show on TV locally all summer long. They can probably offer games for free and have nearly the same payroll. Vikings games get a share around 80. The Twins should be able to get a share of at least 30.
  11. They don't. That $50M was 50% shared with the rest of MLB anyway so at most they're down $25M and that's if the new number is $0.
  12. You left out the ad money. Subscriber money should be the smaller piece of the pie.
  13. They just brought back Henriquez and Moran on minor league deals.
  14. I will believe it when I see it. Apple just paid $85M a year for 2 games a week. ESPN is paying $550M per season. I'm supposed to believe that the Twins TV rights are worthless the very next season.
  15. He's more of a groundball pitcher and the Twins tend to prefer flyball guys in the rotation.
  16. I'd give him 100 plate appearances before I believe that is true.
  17. I think making it easier to access games on TV will drive increased attendance. The best advertisement for attending a Twins game in person is watching one on television.
  18. MLB.tv was $150 a year for out of market games. If they made it $162 a year ($1 per game) and you get in-market games I think they'll do very well. They should be able to sell the same package as an adder to cable or satellite for people who don't stream their TV. Bundle it with 4 upper deck tickets for $200 a year.
  19. The Provus news is fine. The Atteberry news is disappointing. When I listen to the radio I get the feeling Dan and Kris hate each other.
  20. George Kirby Brandon Pfaadt Kyle Bradish Hunter Greene Eury Perez Grayson Rodriguez Paul Skenes Mick Abel Reid Detmers Spencer Strider Tanner Bibee Bobby Miller It's the list of pitchers nobody is going to trade.
  21. The Twins have not disclosed any facts so all we have is speculation based on them lowering payroll because they can't make money off television.
  22. Live sports command the highest advertising rates of all television programming. If the Twins are the only pro sports team who can't make money over television that is a serious problem with management. If they're putting money into a new long-term distribution model that will pay off later I would prefer that they didn't take all of the startup cost out of this season's budget.
  23. Until the window for contention is over. Then they can dump all the expensive guys, play rookies and watch the money flow in again. Goddamn it, I want to see the Twins take a shot at winning when they have an opportunity - like the freaking Brewers do. I don't want to see them put their profits ahead of wins at every opportunity. Otherwise I think I could care more about my bank account balance than whether the Twins win, too.
  24. The Twins are coming off one of the worst TV contracts in MLB so that shouldn't be a surprise to the team.
