I imagine USC and UCLA will fund the full number of baseball scholarships. Not sure about Rutgers or Northwestern.

Spencer Bengard has an ERA of 1.64 in 60 innings for Fort Myers. Move him up to Cedar Rapids.

Don't forget about All-Star Willi Castro
  4. DJL44
I think Royce Lewis is a possibility. That keeps him on the infield dirt where he's most comfortable.

More information here: College Baseball's Golden Age receives jolt with more scholarships on the way • D1Baseball This is coming with a roster limit of 34 (some teams carry 40 players now). Also, some schools are probably not going to be able to fully fund 34 spots (which will give an advantage to the teams that can).

If the Twins include Dobnak in any trade they will need to add more to the trade than if they don't. Dobnak has negative trade value. Dobnak + #10 prospect would be equivalent to trading the #20 prospect alone.
  7. DJL44
The best use of Dobnak would be to trade him to the Blue Jays in return for Kikuchi. That would make the trade payroll neutral for the Twins but he wouldn't count toward the luxury tax for the Jays.

It will be interesting to see how this ripples out several years later, especially if there is a draft established for international players.

The NCAA just approved increasing the number of baseball scholarships per team from 11.7 to 34 for the 2025-26 season. This means the whole roster of D1 and D2 baseball players will be able to get a full scholarship. No more 1/2 or 1/4 scholarships for position players. This will provide more disincentive for drafted high school players to sign MLB contracts and it may be more difficult to get juniors to sign as well.

They might be better off letting Brooks Lee play in the big leagues. He will develop faster facing major league pitching. He hasn't done anything in the last two weeks that should make them regret their decision.
  11. DJL44
Turner, Kikuchi, Jansen and Yimi Garcia are all impending free agents. Trading all four gets them under the tax.
  12. DJL44
Robbie Ray pitched pretty well yesterday.
  13. DJL44
We can absolutely agree on that.
  14. DJL44
What the hell are you talking about? I am certain the Twins are having their minor leaguers practice hitting and defense. Do you think they just roll in at game time and play the games?
  15. DJL44
Has any team in the history of baseball ever had it's entire roster healthy at the same time?
  16. DJL44
I don't think Julien can improve a lot in AAA. His OBP there is ridiculous because he knows the AAA strike zone and pitchers at that level are less likely to hit the corners with a strike.
  17. DJL44
Hopefully this is Bengard's last start in Fort Myers.
  18. DJL44
Wallner didn't hit lefties very well in AAA and those lefties are mostly lousy.
  19. DJL44
The idea is okay but it didn't help him today to come in with runners on base.
  20. DJL44
He has a .364 OBP since returning. He seems to be able to find the way to 1B.
  21. DJL44
I think we can call the Berrios trade. MN wins the trade with this great rookie season from SWR.
  22. DJL44
They have nothing to lose by pitching Randy Dobnak except baseball games.
  23. DJL44
It's really hard to field a top 10 team with a bottom 10 payroll. Trading Paddack makes a lot of sense and they can probably find someone who will take him at $7.5M. Fill the spot in the rotation by trading from position player depth.
  24. DJL44
Great job by the starting pitchers. Nothing from the offense these last two games.
  25. DJL44
A wasted opportunity to give Wallner a chance to face a lefty with nothing on the line. Instead they bring in Margot for another failed pinch hit.
