  1. Hicks turned his back on a deep low fly ball to center, and missed a catch which should have been close by 15 feet. Ouch
  2. It also devalues the bench coach position' as this person will no longer manage 25% of the season innings that Gardy gets ejected from...
  3. He had a couple bad throws yesterday. He had one to first that Mauer had to jump to get as well. Neither throw really impacted the play since I think both plays would have been safe regardless of how good Plouffe's throws were, but man that's disappointing.
  4. Really early, but I think Hicks looked good at the dish, and so has Kubel and Plouffe. Bad team, but the hitting might be a bit better than we thought it would be.
  5. It wouldn't surprise me to see Florimon or Dozier traded, depending on how Santana and Rosario do this season. if Rosario comes back from suspension hitting and fielding well, Dozier is valuable and expendable. If Escobar can hit like he did last fall or Santana show the ability to play SS well, Florimon could be a valuable defensive sub for a contender close to trade deadline or in August.
  6. I had thoughts of an April Fools thread on this topic, but thought better of it...
  7. The Washington post reports Wilson Ramos to miss 4-8 weeks after surgery on his wrist. 1) is the time right to trade Zuke back to the Nats? 2) was the Caps trade really that bad after all?
  8. Cuba has openly discussed allowing its citizens play for MLB. This past Winter Cuba relaxed the rules for its players. I think we'll see many more Cuban players when/if the embargo is lifted regardless of which Castro is in power.
  9. I agree that Bartlett and Kubel preclude the front office from acquiring young talent for a rebuild, and this is indeed far too old of a team to be considered a youthful rebuild. What does AA and AAA look like for major league caliber and ready prospects for each team? I'm not certain, but maybe Chicago had to acquire young players because they had none in their system ready and adequate for the bigs. i think this will be a telling season for the Twins front office. By mid season you could see the full rebuild on.
  10. I love Arcia and his zeal for the game. He's got swagger, and he has fun. I love watching him trot around the bases making the "O" shape with his hands above his head. I hope to see a lot more of that this year.
  11. My Daughter was born 2/25/14, we watched her first Twins game this afternoon. I hope her love for the game and the team follows the same path. AJ thanks for writing. I always love reading you posts.
  12. Chris Colabelo gets the first hit of the season, he actually pulled one...
  13. That's why I think this is more Antony than Gardy.
  14. Is the glass half full because Buxton and Sano are being treated by a different team's medical staff?
  15. sure you have more base runners at first, but steals of first rarely happen, line drives rarely happen. My concern with third is more on the line of diving for the low liner, and impact base runners.
  16. That's more of an indictment of the rest of the team. 18 games, 108 innings, that's 6 inning per game according to Fangraphs.
  17. Thanks Parker, really insightful. I hope I get to be someone who says "Wow, that worked"
  18. I hope this is a chance for a Diamond to work out the kinks and become a contributor to the big league club in some fashion later this season.
  19. Snepp, thank you for starting this thread. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and look for ward to the last couple days. Unfortunately there will be no surprises on opening day.
  20. I hope he is healthy and productive until the trade deadline.
  21. you mean to tell me that the prank on Pelfrey could possibly be ineffective at "good cop/bad cop" model of team building? There's a reason most managers don't survive three 90 loss seasons in a row, and the ones that do, get fired mid season in their 4th. I'm not on the fire Gardy band wagon. He isn't the GM and can't make his own roster decisions. He can only do his best with Bartlett, which is to make him the fire alarm. He should have a box surrounding him in the dugout that reads "break glass in case of emergency"
  22. 1. Mauer will never play third base, unless Sano's elbow injury requires Mauer to move. Mauer left the catcher position to avoid concussion, going to the hot corner puts Mauer in harms way again. 2. I'm not certain that Deduno is more deserving than Gibson or the first 4 in the rotation. While he was a strikeout machine, Deduno rarely got out of the 5th inning. The best thing a starter can do is limit runs and keep the relievers out of the game. I like Deduno as a reliever.
  23. I think thats why Antony pitched a fit, and why the Gardy prank on Pelfrey has been much publicized, and why Bartlett and Kubel are on this team. The management is trying to establish new leadership roles. Morneau and Nathan are gone. Vocal leadership isn't exactly Mauer's thing. Who's stepping up? Maybe Bartlett and Kubel are here to mentor new clubhouse leaders, could be Hicks or Perkins.
  24. TD loads well in Safari, and is fast. I've had some bad luck with formatting in the text box while posting, but it's unusual.
