  1. "There is an increasing sense of urgency in Minnesota with ticket sales lagging, and the Twins will be aggressive with roster changes if need be in the early going, reports ESPN.com's Buster Olney (Insider piece)." My source is http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/minnesota_twins/index.html since I don't spring for insider, but is this a purposeful leak to keep fans interested even though their favorite prospects are being sent down early? Also, I wonder if Gardy got more sway with TR than with Antony.
  2. In 2017 the Twins will have a very good deal if Perkins stays healthy and remains effective.
  3. intentions be damned, it's fun to talk stats with a big group of nerds. My friends and wife's eyes all gloss over when I start these types of conversations. You brought up a great point. this is the forum for using data and logical arguments to discuss your favorite team/sport. Speak your mind, don't apologize for it.
  4. In the AL that leads to a tie
  5. There was a thread that was being derailed by RBI talk, but I found the RBI talk interesting... RBI is the most over-rated hitting stat because it is associated with one player, but it tells you info about the team. What say you?
  6. Wouldn't it be nice for Escobar to carry a .300 batting average as the lead off hitter and starting SS? Not certain it's very likely...
  7. DM has been sent down. Am I right that Hicks, Presley, Mitchell are with the big league club yet. (And Ramirez who I like but don't think of as a CF). Does Mitchell have a shot? I know nothing of the guy.
  8. i think there see some health issues that are being missed. i agree with CMat. That's not to say that Hicks is 100% ready for the bigs. I don't know. I think the Hicks is already our best option. i do think however that the Twins should not let Hicks struggle too much. If he starts out poorly again, don't wait too long to send him back down.
  9. I'm curious about Waring. Might he be the third basemen of the future if Sano goes to first?
  10. I hope you are right on Hicks and that he not only gets the opening day CF assignment with the a Twins, but that he plays well and keeps it. Agreed that Ramirez is not a CF, but I thought he played LF pretty well. Very small sample since it was only a couple innings as a defensive sub, but he showed good speed and a good jump/route.
  11. In my mind, the only larger development aspect left of Hicks' game is ability to hit big league pitching. Sure there are some fine tuning things to do on his defensive skills, but overall pretty tight. I too want Hicks to succeed as I think he and Buxton could be awesome in the outfield together. I would really like to see Wilkin Ramirez step up. I think he's got some ability to provide offensive speed and defense this season. Ramirez, Hicks, and Arcia in the outfield, Presley on the bench, and Hammer DH would improve the defense a lot.
  12. Would you go North with at 3rd and short? Waring and Santana?
  13. I imagine this is pretty important to the Braves right now since they've apparently lost two starters for the season already, and jumped at Santana quickly. Though the Braves are known for developing pitching, they may not have much immediate reserve as I thought.
  14. This was a terrible baseball team from 1993 to 2001 and the league threatened to take the team away from ownership and fans (rumor substantiated by media but not admitted to by the league) and now we have target field. Contractually the ownership owes the tax payers a baseball team, nothing more. if the ownership wants to remain profitable, it owes the fans a competitive team, year in and year out, and making the playoffs with some success in them every few years. I dream of watching the a Twins in another World Series, and I think it's possible in 2016 or 2017 if TR can pull it together and some luck.
  15. I'm not interested in Morales. This is a Twins team rife with defensively challenged players who can play first base and corner outfield but poorly. Drew, on the other hand, provides offensive skill at a defensive position that needs to be upgraded. If the Twins could sign Drew and swing a trade with Chicago for De Aza (without giving up the farm) as well I would be a happy camper as both would be improvements over current players and provide depth for next year if Santana and Buxton aren't ready.
  16. It's great to hear some optimism regarding May. I hope you are right.
  17. On the flip side Vance Worley has the most value to other teams as a starter, and Deduno and Diamond are more likely to pass through waivers were they DFA'd. I'm ok with The Vanimal being the 5th starter because both Correia and Worley can be moved to make room for Prospects as the season goes on. I'm happy with Deduno in the pen as I don't see his success last season translating to sustained success as a starter. I think his effectiveness depends on being "wild" which will lead to more unearned runs with the high repetition of starting. Being in the bullpen allows Deduno to provide valuable outs and minimizes exposure. What value do you think Diamond has to the Twins or can return via trade? Would he pass through waivers?
  18. Your wife and my wife are shockingly similar... This would be funny if it wasn't so close to home.
  19. I thought Meyer and Buxton would have gotten a bit more time with the big league staff.
  20. I hope that Parmellee's offense picks up to his AAA type numbers if he isn't learning a new position. I'm less concerned with his ability to hit the cut off and play the bounce off the wall than I am with his range. It was ok, but not great. With Willingham in LF that leaves acres of real estate to cover via CF. I have been one to have doubts about his outfield defense because it's not his natural position as far as I know. I hope he proves me foolish for doubting him. Like you say , we're inch deep at CF and De Aza would solidify CF with certainty and if Hicks can't figure it out, it'll be ok, if Buxton needs tommy john surgery it'll be ok, if both Hicks and Buxton pan out, you have valuable trade pieces.
  21. Mastrianni, Ramirez and Pressly, are not proven and are at best 4th outfielders. Willingham is a terrible fielder. Arcia at best is a right fielder but is unproven, Collabello and Parmellee are first basemen who try to play right field. Hicks and Buxton both have a lot of potential, but that's all. A lot of players, not much proven quality. i like the idea of Hicks, Buxton, and Arcia in the outfield, but there are no guarantees with any of those three. De Aza would be good insurance at the right price.
  22. Agreed, also there's no guarantee with Hicks or Buxton and this target field outfield needs 2 good rangy outfielders and this team has zero depth.
