  1. The economics of the situation dictate more patience , not less. If there are millions of people qualified and trying to get the job, it dictates a shorter leash than Gardy's situation where there are dozens of qualified candidates who are looking to fill the role. That being said, 9 years of acceptable results followed by 3 years of worst among your peers results, absolutely deserves of being fired. Exceeding expectations (World Series champ) garners the longer leash.
  2. If it is, he would be getting promoted for being the pitching coach for the worst performing pitchers in MLB. Sounds crazy
  3. This implies that every player from the minors is (or should be) major league ready when they come up. That there is no difference. Between triple A and the bigs. I would argue it's always their job, each wrung in the ladder prepares a player for the next, but it takes the step up to find out what's like at the top. You can't find out what's like at the top of Everest from the bottom. This becomes more critical when there are a lot of rookies on a team. It's harder to give extra attention when 3/4 of your staff was in the minors in the last year.
  4. After 25 years of service would I want my boss to choose option 2? Yes. After 3 years of being measurably worse than my peers and being in the very bottom of my industry in performance, would my boss choose option 2? No. It would never get to a whole year, let alone three no matter my track record previously. But then, my industry has many more qualified applicants to take my job than Gardy's. The main difference between me and Gardy (besides the obvious) is that I have the ability to hire and fire my employees, and because of that more of the credit of failure or success rests on my shoulders. Is Gardy the right guy? I don't know. Does a change need to be made? I think so, change for the sake of change can be a good thing. Does it need to be Gardy? Possibly, but I blame TR/BS more than Gardy for the current situation because those two GMs have/had the ability and resources to pull in the right people for the job (including coaching), and obviously have not.... Yet.... I'm disappointed in Gardenhire's rehire for the same reason I am about resigning Pelfrey. It's not because they are bad people, bad player/manager. It's not even because I think they are wrong for the job. I'm disappointed because I know that for as long as status quo remains in the Minnesota Twins front office, I will be a fan of an atrocious baseball team.
  5. It took the Wild a new GM and a new coaching staff to figure out how to rebuild too. Don't forget that the Wild had a dwindling attendance in a new building after several years of sucking. The Twins (and the Pohlads) have made no moves. We've seen how TR operates, we've seen how Gardy manages, we've seen three years of horrendous baseball preceded by crapping the bed in the first round of the playoffs. No one can be blamed for wanting the Twins to follow suit of the Orioles , Indians, and Wild. At least we'd have hope.
  6. Barrero said it, and I'm in agreement, Gardy has the best job in the world. Team loses 90 plus games three years in a row and it's someone else's fault . If the team still sucks in 2014 it will still be someone else's fault, but if he manages to pull together a decent season he's a hero. There's no down side, and no accountability to bringing him back. Status quo sucks and I'm really disappointed that this team will do nothing to change.
  7. Jokin is dead on, The rebuild process doesn't have to be 5 full seasons of terrible baseball. Make no mistake, this rebuild started in 2011 whether we (or TR) knew it or not. At current rate the rebuild will be another 3 seasons. This team can't be a Pittsburg Pirates, it won't survive another decade of inneptitude like it did in the 90s.
  8. I have been an opponent of moving Mauer away from catcher, and stick by it, unless he can't do it anymore. 5 weeks does not a lifetime make. I agree with DJL44, that playing baseball puts every player at risk of getting a concussion.
  9. I like Old Goat's train of thought. If our weakness is pitching, lets make it a point of emphasis. My vote is Jim Hickey
  10. I had a similar thought. If this team played the big league club in a 3 game series, who would in more games?
  11. Also, all of he teams mentioned have enough offense that they can overcome a weak spot in the lineup. The Twins need all they an get from every spot, because they are weaker across the board with the exception of Mauer at Catcher
  12. Joe hits at an elite level as a catcher and is elite defensively at catcher. He is ok hitting, ok fielding first basemen. Unless you had no choice, why turn elite into replacement level?
  13. Stew and the TD crew. Thank you so much! Most enlightening!
  14. I do too, and I don't blame Gardy for the frustration showing. However I don't like it, I hold the manager to a higher standard, fair or not.
  15. There's also no guarantee that he'll get 5 more wins his year.
  16. I think Hosken was writing about the departure from the norm on the part of TR and Gardy. I too find it noteworthy that there's news out of the clubhouse that is unflattering about a player in a more personal way. It's just odd. I don't blame anyone being irritated by Mauers situation. It must be horrifying for Mauer to have lingering side effects so close to a similar side effect story of his friend and former team mate. I can imagine Gardy is not feeling too good about it either, it can't help his situation.
  17. I think you are right regardless of the performance of Collabello and Pinto. Full on rebuild, with those two pieces being the rare twins veteran who is expendable and somewhat valuable to another team.
  18. Amen Brother! 90 losses 3 years in a row should tell you something... It ain't working, try something new!
  19. He's a career 4.42 era at age 29. Pitchers don't improve after TJ. Zero upside over 4 other rotation members, so what if the loser TR brings up from AAA is worse, if the guy has any upside it's better than nothing. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
  20. blindeke makes a good point, while I want TR to make big moves (plural) realistically we will probably see zero "big" moves and might see one medium move and one or two mediocre stop-gap type moves.
  21. All of your rejiggering is lineup but sadly the pitching is worse. Spending 20 mil in lineup and 20 mil in pitching makes them 2010 de ja vu. 2014 is lost. Lets think like this in 2015 where spending 40 mil in pitching and batting combined makes the Twins actually competitive for post season success.
  22. Good Article John. I also wonder if this is a part of the plan to blow the team up. Go young for 2014, then find the right veteran pieces for a 2015 push into respectability. I will miss Justin Morneau for all of the nostalgic reasons, and I wish Justin well.
  23. Sounds like the latter. Rumor has it its Duke Welker a career minor league reliever who is currently on their 40 man. It is supposed to go thru after the season.
  24. The window has closed on the Hammer trade since he was claimed. Best of Luck Morneau.
