  1. The window has closed on the Hammer trade since he was claimed. Best of Luck Morneau.
  2. This is where these two thoughts converge. Arcia can hit like crazy, his outfield defense is suspect, and the Twins have probable need at first. Sounds like a match
  3. Oh yeah! Matt Lawton! Bro ménage e trois
  4. Don't forget Jacques Jones and Torrii Hunter. No "Soul Patrol" on this team no matter how much I want it.
  5. Agreed, provided Gibson takes steps forward next season, he could still have upside, but its limited. He's never going to be "number 1 guy". Question still remains, Why does the Twins pitching systemically suck? What to do about it?
  6. Not to give Anderson an out, but maybe the guy was so befuddled he became uncoachable. Change of scenery might be some of it.
  7. To clarify, I don't think we should trade him, Rosario is still an unknown, and even if Rosario is the best 2b of all time, I think Dozier should be kept. I think he can play SS at lest well enough to be utility infielder. What makes me think this is his improvement at 2b over the last season and a half tells me he can go back to his natural position an relearn that as well.
  8. If Parker broke it down that succinctly, so can every GM. Obviously not enough ABs to provide certainty, but enough to show repeatable results as Parker did. I think the return on Dozier would be good, but not blow you away. agreed, he would never clear. With rosario on the roter, he's more valuable as utility/Ss
  9. Me too, especially since the return is difficult to predict and the roster spot opening only buys 3 weeks of looking at a prospect before sept call ups.
  10. Conditioned to 100 pitches is exactly correct, while pitching 105 or 110 may not blow his arm out, a pitcher needs to be conditioned to 110 or 120. There's a reason they "stretch a pitcher out". He was gassed and there was no reason to push your luck. There is however a reason marathon runners poop themselves at the end of a marathon. They've pushed their bodies to its physical limit. Do you really want to see Albers poop himself on the mound?
  11. I want Mauer to catch, but realistically he'll play progressively more first base as he gets older. I don't want to see Mauer take ABs from Arcia.
  12. For the season, or for the organizational inneptitude? This season may hold improvement over the current situation, but not much. Organizationally, I think 2014 will be the bottom, and upswing towards improvement. I think this team will get worse when they (necessarily) cut ties with the veteran players. Morneau, Willingham and most of the starting rotation will go, and most of the rest of the veterans will take a supporting role to the rookies. Because of this, the team will suffer through worse play by the rookies, but become a better team down the road.
  13. Willihammer was worried about getting beaned would set him back, not getting benched.
  14. On the flip side, it's rare to have a proven commodity with a team friendly contract who is on the tradeing block. Usually the response is "Well, thhis is a great player today, but I have to pay this play for two years more, and next year is never a cetrainty". Longer contracts are a risk that GMs take, not go into because they want to.
  15. You're right that Plouffe should be a 5 or 6 hitter, and you're right that the 2 hitter should be able to bunt. I also agree that Gardy doesn't have a good enough roster to make this type of situation work to his advantage. And I don't argue that its time for Gardy to move on. Where I struggle is the assumption that just because it was a bunting situation, Gardy had to give Plouffe the bunt sign, and anything less is managerial incompetence. I didn't see the sign, but maybe Plouffe ignored/didn't see it. Or maybe Gardy didn't think Plouffe could put down the bunt, so what the heck, let's let our right handed hitter with some power try to pull a home run down the line. It is the AL after all.
  16. With Gardy at the helm, the Punto award, and the Butera award cannot be forgotten
  17. I couldn't agree more. Twins have zero depth between Plouffe and Sano. Sano is too valuable to the future to rush him now. Plouffe needs to stay at 3rd until Sano is ready in a year or two or three. On the other hand, there are several stop-gap solutions at 1 including Mauer, Parms, Collabello, all three of which could become longer term, to permanent (as permanent as can be anyways) and playing at 1 will not hurt the player's development into the future.
  18. I agree with the tenet that the Twins GM (TR or whomever it is) needs to be more aggressive, but I can't give Smith a whole lot of credit. He did make a great signing with Sano, but our Farm system and big league club were pretty shaky by the time he left. I still hold true to my assumption that TR will re-retire soon and leave the signing to the next guy.
  19. I admit that I didn't mind seeing him go, despite the lack of depth at starter. I wonder if he "figured it out" and he would have had a similar statistical first half of 2013 with the Twins, or if it is the change in scenery/team/defense/ballpark/league that is playing the larger role in his success. It's good to see Liriano have some success. I hope he can sustain it. I was wrong about him last season.
  20. Good points. It's silly to spend money on free agency, when your whole plan is to blow the team up, and there's still time for Sanchez to stink up Detroit...
  21. Good article, points well made. I'm on the fence regarding whether or not Morneau will be traded. Just because the Twins are hesitant to give Morneau a mid-season extension, doesn't mean a trade is imminent, however, it does point that way.
  22. either that, or he never intended to be around long enough to see the rebuild get turned into competitive baseball. He may have been brought in to rebuild the farm and that's it. The rest of this might just be trying to avoid mutiny
  23. "Left handed LOOGY" is there a right handed LOOGY out there I don't know about?
  24. If you're bringing up Pinto, it had better be because Mauer is injured or traded, Pinto cannot ride the bench. Herrmann on the other hand is an excellent bench catcher/util guy candidate. Hope he sticks and Doumit brings good value in trade return.
