  2. Left or Right, he has a good arm, and it would allow Pressly/Mastro in CF to shift either direction. right may also be good for Hicks to relax a bit on fielding and work extra with Bruno in the batting cages. Plus it would put Hicks in his future role, giving him some extra adjustment time.
  3. I liked watching Ramirez last season. A lot of fun to watch.
  4. Thankfully the FO has a little time before opening day. Is a 6 man rotation out of the question? After watching all of the starters struggle and the bullpen seemingly run out of gas, I'm not worried about the glut of mid to back end pitching. Hopefully Worley and/or Diamond pitch well enough to become tradeable assets and Deduno comes back from injury healthy and effective.
  5. It was also fun to watch Buxton live (vs highlights on YouTube) and see just how patient the kid really is. I didn't watch the whole game, and was hoping to see him open up the jets, but it was fun watching his approach. I don't think the Twins' brass see Pinto as a Doumit type, Gardy likes having three catchers, but can't tie up two bench players to catcher only.
  6. http://swaywhat.com/chart-64468214358-average-mlb-on-base-percentage-by-position In 2012 SS average .32 obp (the lowest position), so... Nope
  7. the addition I would make to your premise is "yet". The Twins don't see Pinto as The a Everyday Catcher yet. i think the interest in Saltalamachia reinforces the Butera rule that the Twins value depth at catcher, don't feel that Pinto is a sure thing yet, and they wanted insurance. When TR didn't land Salty, he went with plan B, the cheap defensive veteran that won't clog the space for Pinto. Look for Pinto to start in AAA, tear it up offensively and improve enough defensively to earn a promotion, and become the primary catcher with the big league club by June. i don't see TR making the trade (even if they could) because of the value placed on depth at catcher. I also wouldn't make the trade, because Pinto is your only decent hitting option he will bring in more runs in 2015 and on, than either of the two SS trade options.
  8. Thanks for proving me wrong. The Alex Meyer story is very good and encouraging.
  9. The only two articles I have read lately by Mike Berardino are both about a Twins aging veteran (Correia and Willingham) wanting to finish out their careers with the Twins. 1) Is this Berardino trying to get established? Why is this news? 2) What are the odds the Twins resign one or both? 3) Would you see this as a positive?
  10. If Willingham in the first half of the season is on pace to lead the team, he'll be traded. If he isn't, no one will want him. My my prediction is counting his homers for the Twins and their trade partner I say Hammer hits 32, and Arcia leads homers in a Twins uniform hitting 29 with Plouffe right behind him.
  11. Alex Meyer isn't suddenly ready, and if by some miracle he were, there is not one pitcher on the roster preventing him from making his debut. Injuries and failures will happen, Worley/Diamond/Deduno will either fail, get injured, or be in the bullpen. You are right, the Twins will not cut a player to make room for another, they don't have to.
  12. And I agree with Thrylos about Pelfrey. Once he hit his stride and before he tuckered out, he was by far the best pitcher on the staff. 2 years after surgery brings me optimism.
  13. I find it preposterous to complain about too many starting pitching options after last season. It's great that TR isn't banking on Deduno to repeat last year (or be healthy which is yet to proved) or Gibson to be ready, or Diamond to repeat 2012, or every NL soft tosser to be AL caliber. Someone will fail/get injured. Gibson will become a regular starter this season, but at least it doesn't have to be opening day or we can't fill out the roster.
  14. It would be great if Buxton pushed the issue in spring training, but I think Hicks will bounce back following his "slow starter" pattern.
  15. I'm with Brock, I don't think TR and Gardy believe Pintos September stats. He'll be sent down to AAA to start the season, but force the issue by May, and own starting catcher (barring injury) for the foreseeable future. This isn't to say that Pinto is for certain that good, just that there's no one close to compete. However I do think Pinto is the real deal. His September numbers aren't par for course, but not far off.
  16. I agree with you if Florimon is the only weak link offensively. I disagree if you have a glaring gap at center and catcher and have 3 number 9 hitters, also if you have terrible defense in the outfield in general. You need to make up the run differential somehow.
  17. Maybe hoping he can pass through waivers and be AAA filler?
  18. What better options do the Twins have? I think the only reason to send him down to AAA is to develop his hitting further. I think he starts the season with the big league club with a short leash.
  19. However I do agree, I want very much for Hicks, Florimon, and Pinto to take control of their positions in such a way that I don't yearn for someone else's cast offs as improvements over our current situation. Said poorly, but the sentiment rings true. I'm sick of watching AAAA players.
  20. For this season to be a success I echo riverbrian, I want to watch good baseball. Also I want both Gibson and Meyer to pitch so well that they earn rotation spots at some point this season and keep them when they arrive. I would also like to see this team get faster in the outfield. Willingham and Arcia have no business being in the same outfield, adding Kubel to the mix makes me shudder. Arcia is the future, so he needs to stay. Presley/Mastroiani I'm fine with as 4/5 outfielder. Hicks needs to step up big. I can't think of an acceptable corner outfield combination that provides adequate offense and defense. Rosario is on a 50 game suspension, but seeing him or someone like him arrive and stay would make this season a success. I'm happy with the infield defense, I think Plouffe, Escobar, Dozier, Mauer are pretty good defensively, with a dearth of offense at short. I'm ok with short being poor offensively, if that can be compensated for at catcher. If Sano knocks down the door, then maybe Plouffe is my answer in the corner outfield, but I find this scenario unlikely. The options at catcher are offense or defense but not both. Pinto becoming the both would be a success, making Suzuki the back up (also success)
  21. These 4 bullet points are mutually exclusive. If both Kubel and Willingham are on the team, it means they are playing very regularly at the same time. Both are very bad outfielders that will make the defense bad, and therefore Nolasco, Pelfrey, and Hughes (especially Mr. Fly ball himself Hughes) cannot prove worth. I wish Kubel luck, but the Twins need either Kubel or Willingham at DH and neither in the outfield.
  22. I don't know which is scarier in the outfield the thought of Presley, Mastrioni, and the Hicks we saw last year, or Willingham, Arcia, Parmelee and Kubel. It looks like TR is banking on Hicks putting on his big boy pants, and playing like he owns center field. I hope very much that the Hammer is every day DH. We can only afford one lumbering ox in the outfield, and it should be Arcia because he shows promise for the future. If I get my way and Kubel stays in the minors, Hammer plays DH, and Hicks plays like a big leaguer, what do the corner outfield spots look like? Arcia in RF, and Wilkin Ramirez in LF might be ok.
  23. The Homer Bailey trade is a pipe dream, but a guy can dream can't he?
