  1. If the right trade is offered, no one should be off the table. That being said, not a lot of lopsided trade ability in this crew...
  2. i don't see teams taking on his salary.
  3. No research, no stats, but Liriano's looking pretty darn good right now
  4. I hate to give the Pohlad's too much credit, but maybe that's the plan... in 2011 the Pohlad's may have taken inventory, realized they had no future in the farm system whatsoever, and brought back TR to rebuild the farm. When the farm was restocked the Pohlads planned to cut ties with TR and Gardy to start fresh... Like I said, hate to give the Pohlad's too much credit...
  5. Agreed on all. I really like the Morneau to Loney comparison. The problem with it highlights how over paid Morneau is to his production (currently). The Twins would need to eat 6-7M of his existing contract to get any return. They should and must do so.
  6. Ah.... Memories of '98-2001. The current situation seems awefully similar to 2001. If history repeats itself, the 2014 manager is ... Bruno?
  7. Gil4 - would your proposal of an additional Brooklynn team in the AL East move Toronto to AL central, the Twins to the AL south, and Colorado to the West? You could also swap Toronto to Central and Cleveland the East, but Cleveland and Toronto are so close, you'd want them in the same division if you could manage it. Teflon - I like it, but one concern. Talent dilution is already becoming an issue, adding two more teams (and all of the development teams that would be required to go with them) may decrease the quality of play, especially starting pitching. As far as scheduling goes, I really like the proposal. It's fun to think of an expansion team in Monterray Mexico. I think maybe Phoenix might be a good AL West expansion.
  8. As we've seen over and over, there needs to be players at the bottom to put other players at the middle, top, and elite. Considering our best might be league average, and the other 4 rotation fillers are 4 and 5 types, I'll take league average. The Twins aren't the only team with this problem, there will be suitors.
  9. TR has been busy not only drafting quality prospects, but making quality trades for prospects, vs. making trades for pros. Our current state is as much from poor trade and FA signings as anything.
  10. I have no idea if Thielbar can keep it up, but I hope he does. He's exciting to follow.
  11. Agreed spending an additional $100m on payroll this past off season would not have made the improvements required that these upcoming prospects have the potential to bring. It's this upcoming off season where the right acquisitions in FA and trades combined with the young talent that can make this team a contender for years to come.
  12. Hicks has until Sept 2014 at the earliest before he needs to worry about Buxton.
  13. Good metaphor with the submissive peeing. I don't get the running "Yankees/Twins rivalry" posts. It's not a rivalry to the Yankees, just an easy win. It does make me sad how the Twins play against the Yanks. It's not the Yankees that I have the problem with, it's the hometown 9...
  14. .500 baseball with a team full of rooks and second year players is inherently success relatively...
  15. I guess mauer to first is inevitable, but I would rather see him catch. His defense at catcher adds value to the singles production. I like Plouffe at 1 but we have fewer immediately viable 3b candidates. If you retain Morneau (cheaply) for 2 years, then move Plouffe/sano to 1, you've got better options, and less immediate drop in production. If Morneau walks, I think Parmelee is the best stop-gap
  16. I don't think Justin has much trade value. If you offer him the "qualifying offer" he will take it. I think a better offer is 2/13.5 That's James Loney money and less production... If he rejects, fine. Like Kwak said, there's plenty of in-house candidates to back fill.
  17. 5 innings strong, if history repeats, Diamond is about to implode
  18. TR seeing what he has to replace Perkins if there were a trade?
  19. The more important pitfall of trading Perkins may be credibility with impending free agents. If indeed Perk did give a home town discount and the Twins do trade him, there may be issues with other players. I'm not worried about Perk. He's a pro.
  20. Good point, people who are really into the came are pretty quiet between innings
  21. While in general I agree with your notion that the Twins should stock pile all of the quality pitching they can, I don't think Perkins will maintain his quality long enough to truly get Return On Investment. Losing teams get no ROI on closers, and I don't think Perkins will maintain his quality long enough for this team to become a winner. If the return on the trade is good enough, trade him while he has more value to other teams than he does to the Twins. Look at Hammer, his peak trade value was early last offseason. The Twins held on to him, now his value stinks. Timing is everything, and no player, even pitchers, should be off limits.
  22. 1) Can't agree more 2) Don't blame Arcia for earning the right to play. He's been the second best hitter on the team lately. 3) I blame TR more than Gardy. Gardy is trying to keep his job. TR hasn't forced the impetus for Gardy to play the youth... Yet... While the trade value may not currently be there for Morneau/Willingham it may come yet.
  23. His stats are trending in the right direction. Get him healthy and back in the bigs
  24. 2nd to 3rd in what looks to be 9 - 10 steps and a slide
  25. I hate the Yankees, they've knocked us out of the playoffs too many times, but I gotta wonder if Yankees fans consider the Twins "rivals"
