  1. Going beyond 2014 less than half of the roster is still under contract in 2015. I'm sure TR will be active in resigning players, but it does bode well for more significant roster changes, and plenty of cash to do it with (call me an optimist).
  2. Oh, and Why would Gardy want chickens at the ball park?
  3. Good stuff! It's reassuring that on an Internet forum, where in other parts of the internet posters are horrible human beings, here at TD we can be open, honest, and respectful... Though maybe a tad irreverent, a touchy subject was discussed in a civilized manner, and managed to make me laugh even while in a very foul mood.
  4. Sounds like the Twins to me...
  5. My point is, Mauer was the savior of this team (and to an extent Morneau) and so too is Sano and to cmathewsons point Buxton as well. Sure Sano and Buxton have more potential than M and M ever did, but they represent the same promise
  6. He didn't compare Plouffe to Ortiz, he said TR didn't want to make the same mistake twice. 1 year 2.3 mil for an ok 3rd baseman you know won't hurt you too bad while you wait for the second coming of Joe Mauer to mature in the minors is fine by me. Especially when you don't have any significantly better options.
  7. I'm uneducated as far as minor league skill/talent goes. My assumption is that higher level equals more skill, both offensive and defensive. Therefore, I would assume that Sano's drop in Babip would be more due to improved defense level over level than luck. Is that not the case? Is the threshold for defensive prowess between AA and AAA?
  8. [quote Everybody plays! Just like junior high! too true! Lol! Truthfully I am sad
  9. Sconnie baseball resolution: watch enough twins baseball to learn the AAAA players names. Life resolution: get used to the idea that the first base man will hit 340 with 9 hr and 90 RBI with no one else close until 2015/2016
  10. Well written and researched. I wish I was this good of a poster.
  11. Good point. It's still a pretty veteran team (crappy, but veteran). The quality will go down when the youth movement goes full swing.
  12. I agreed with Drew before reading, but I was skeptical of the idea of Morales. I don't think that Morales provides a position of "need". However you have made a good point of its more important to improve the team than fill need at this point. In a year or two, the narrative should change to gap fullfillment...
  13. True, their defense last year at Third and Left field sucked badly. It's a great to offer such an opportunity to right handed pull hitters. there's a limit as to how much you can sacrifice defense for offense, especially when your two biggest liabilities are on the same side of the field. How many players can you trot out who can hit OK, but can't field worth a damn? Twins have defensive options in the outfield, but zero every day options at third outside of Plouffe. Sano might have a cup of coffee with the hug league club in 2014, but can't be relied upon this year.
  14. Presley, Hicks, Arcia in OF with Willingham at DH/4th OF would be best, especially during Hughes turn in the Rotation.
  15. Good advice. If Collabello doesn't leave for Korea, "Coke bellow" might become a new knick name.
  16. My understanding from other articles is KB is "relaxing" the rules a bit for foreign players. Allowing teams to expand how many foreign players they can take, and additional compensation on top of the max 300,000 salary.
  17. When it was first hinted at that he Twins and Pelf were in negotiations before the Twins signed any other pitchers, I said I would be ok with Pelf resigning if he were signed as the back end of a good rotation rather than the centerpiece of a crap rotation. Its a mixed bag, but generally this rotation (big stretch) should be much better. I'm mostly ok with Pelf. He could surprise me.
  18. amen! The organization hasn't been exactly been a picture of health over the last several years. Depth is key
  19. My challenge is batting average. I think it's feasible that Morneau hits 23 or so, maybe 25. If he hits it in the air, he still has plenty of power. His bat speed looked so slow, that I question his average. My prediction is home run or out at Coors field. .260 batting average.
  20. Not so happy for this signing. Speaks volumes on how the organization feels about Parmelee... And organizational depth at right field/DH
  21. exactly why I really like (the potential of) the Hughes signing, low commitment high upside, and should be an improvement over the current pitching staff. Should be number 2 on the staff, could be number 1.
  22. Very good point. The defense struggled last year too, and so far (offseason is still young) the Twins have only upgraded at first base and downgraded at catcher. All I've heard for FA defensively is upgrading at catcher.
  23. So you don't buy the optimism that his stats are relative to the park and division that he played in? Garza was supposed to be the top available pitcher with a 4.35 era for the rangers and a 3.17 era for the cubs, 13 starts a piece. Sure the rangers were the second half of the season and the cubs were the first, but it also points to competition and park. Because Hughes is relatively young and has better stats away from Yankee Stadium, I'm optimistic he'll be a better pitcher for the Twins that the Yankees. That would put him 1 or 2 in the rotation currently. Is he going to be the next Cy Young? No. But I do think the Twins went out and got the two best Free agent pitchers that I could reasonably expect them to.
