    Analytics meant something different then. They won with the analytics of the day and then got conservative because they didn’t understand their competitive advantage and it was overtaken by newer and more robust techniques of data collection and analysis. as for whether this is the “right CBA”… it gets us MLB baseball again, so… YUP it’s the right one for now!

    From a mercenary stand point, a run is a run and an out is an out. For the argument of weak contact becomes hits sometimes but strikeouts almost never become base runners, comes the counter that weak contact also becomes double plays but strikeouts almost never do. i appreciate the math on swinging for the fences and agree with it from a strategy perspective of winning more games. From a fan watching the game, I’d rather watch a crisply executed high contact pitched game. It’s more fun when there’s more balls in play. It’s one of the things that needs to happen in order to attract more fans. It’s no fun to watch a bunch of guys waive at a ball and sit down 25 times.

    Matt Wisler pitched the 7th most innings in that season to the tune of 1.07 ERA. its not that there aren’t any nuggets to be gleaned, but how good the Twins pitching staff were in 2021 (or beyond) isn’t one of them.

    The World Series scale did not change. Winning in the 2020 post season was the almost identical craps-shoot that MLB post season has been since the wild card expanded. the season itself was 60 games and the players performance for 60 games should not be weighed the same as 162 game season.

    Jeffers and Rortvedt<Rooker, Larnach or any free agent left fielder. Kiriloff, Garver and Sano are in the lineup in all of these scenarios, so no the Op would not juice the lineup, quite the opposite.

    Garver’s .372 wOBA in 2021 would have ranked him the number 8 first baseman. He can clearly hit well enough to be an asset away from C, but as @roger so astutely pointed out, this roster is bloated with corner hitters who can’t field. Garver fields C quite competently, why would you hurt two positions for a 31 year old? He’s no spring chicken and comparing him to Mauer isn’t a fair comp at all. My plan would be to play Garver at C as much as his body can handle. Rest him, but get him behind the dish 4 days a week or more if he holds up.

    I voted “sort of” because I recalled being skeptical of Shoemaker and Happ. Even with my dislike of Happ/Shoemaker signings, I still thought the Twins would be in the 85-ish wins range. I probably should have voted “didn’t see it coming”.

    I just returned from a 10 day trip. Agree entirely w/ the OP and a couple points of interest to add On Sanibel, eat at the Island Cow, the patio has iguanas and games, and the largest menu I can recall. On Captiva, eat at the Mucky Duck, it’s right on the beach, has a great pub-style menu, and the beach chair bar at Sunset is an experience to be had. Also, Orlando (and the theme parks), Cape Canaveral (Kennedy Space Center) and St Augustine (48 states’ oldest city and pirate fort/museum) are drivable and quite fun!

    I agree w/ the OP on who the villain is, but the author’s relative youth skews his perspective a bit. There has been unprecedented stability and peace between the League and the PA over the last 25 years. Since the PA’s inception until 1994/95 there was a work stoppage every 3-4 years. NHL, NBA and NFL have all had work stoppages since the last MLB stoppage. A work stoppage was an eventuality. So no, MLB fan engagement is not as low as it’s ever been. Not by a long shot. If there are games played with PA players in ‘22 it won’t sink lower than ‘95. I doubt the players have the fortitude to forfeit the season to sink it lower than ‘94/95. The owners do have the fortitude and Manfred hates baseball, so they’ll scrub the season to get their way.

    Ok, got to Marvel and Comic strip… I’m backing away from the “Better than Magic Kingdom” a bit…. half of Islands hasn’t been renovated since the park opened. But HP and Jurassic Park are awesome!

    On a break while my kids are on a ride at Universal Studios, islands of adventure. Way better than Magic kingdom (circa 2019, not sure when Star Wars opens, but looking forward) Harry Potter world is loads of fun!

    Update: on our way up to Orlando, about 20 minutes outside of Fort Myers on 31, drove past Babcock Ranch…. 5 minutes later was still driving past Babcock ranch… begged the question: “what is Babcock Ranch?” The place is huge and doesn’t look like a ranch at all. so we lookes them up on the google and got a tour. They claim to be the first fully solar powered community. Eco friendly, it was pretty cool. Definitely worth checking out, while you are visiting the Fort. A little weird… not gonna lie… but cool. They are still selling initial builds of houses, so be prepared for the pitch. a few days in Orlando then heading back down to the Fort

    photo courtesy Expedia Day 3 at the fort. Haven’t ventured to Lee County ballpark yet. Do intend to do so, probably Monday. Thus far have been to the beaches, the pool at the Airbnb, 6 mile slough, has a great meal at the Mucky Duck on Sanibel. enjoying the escape from the cold of NW Wi. it’s currently 85 degrees and Sunny day 4: lakes park in the AM, off to the Swimming pool for the PM. Currently 82 and sunny on deck for the weekend: heading up to Orlando. Universal Studios on Monday, Cape Canaveral Tuesday Back to the Fort Intending to catch a Dolphin cruise and hang out at the ballpark, hoping to catch some drills or bullpen sessions, hitting off the tees with the minor leaguers. I’ll try to check back in later. im missing baseball terribly but still having a great vacation
