  1. Infielders in the outfield... Better than Hunter, but for Chitown... ISH
  2. true enough, he's probably the best option for the Twins until Buxton is ready, he's just not good enough to be an every day big leaguer. Maybe he could've been had he not been the sacrificial lamb. Now? Ick. I hope he proves me wrong, but man, just lost in the bigs
  3. absolutely damning of the whole front office.... If Hunter was "just" a marketing ploy, I'd give TR more credit than not knowing Hunter was well past done 2 years ago or more. As far as Molitor goes, of course the team looks unprepared, it's a whole new coaching staff and a rookie manager who's never managed a day in his life, it's not his fault any more than it is Hunter's. Offer me 10 million (or 1 million) to look like a fool, I'd put on the big floppy shoes and clown nose too. I don't think Hunter or Moli wants to be a clown, but for Hunter the money is very persuasive, and Moli, you can't help but listen when everyone says you're a baseball genius.
  4. but now is not the time to add Buxton. While the team desperately needs him, he's not ready. Maybe September... Sano on the other hand seems like he's close, if TR can swing a trade for Plouffe, he has his 3rd baseman. I'm with you on Eric Fryer, lots of faith in Hermann, and it seems like Pinto isn't trusted behind the plate. If Zooks gets hurt or Hermann hermits, my fear is TR wouldn't part with a terrible bullpen/BP pitcher but remove Beans...
  5. baseball is a business. The Twins are an entrepreneurial enterprise. Winning games will help the team make more money, but it is a means to an end.
  6. dang! Well predicted for Milone, he pitched very well today
  7. Can't agree more that the bullpen and outfield are serious issues, starting pitching is a big problem too. There might be some young starters and relievers on the way soon that should provide improvement, but outfield is a ways off.
  8. Umm, 82 games in the NBA season, so... 9/10 of a game, not a possession... True, don't overreact to the first few games of the season, but I like to think that if the team continues down this path, it becomes more likely real change is made this season. Not just a little lipstick on the sow
  9. The Dude abides... But even the dude couldn't abide by letting that poor woman get killed. He's a pacifist when we need a Walter Dubcek to take action. As I see it, Pohlad is the Dude and Walter is the owner I want, ready to bring an mp5 sub machine gun and jump out of a moving vehicle that he is driving... Ok I got a little derailed, but the point is we've waited for 4 years, and year 5 looks just as crummy. When is the owner going to bring in a GM who will actually rebuild the team?
  10. so you have given up on the Twins and want to give Ploufe a chance to play on a winner? How magnanimous towards Plouffe. I feel that way towards Mauer
  11. agreed that his pay is irrelevant to his skill/ability/statistical probability of being good. Pay is relevant to expectations and most of the articles on TD and across Twins territory called Santana the 2nd or 3rd best pitcher in the rotation, it was obvious that the consensus was that Santana was going to be better than replacement level. Founded in level headed statistical analysis? Probably not, but that's not the point, the point is, if the GM thinks highly enough of Santana to hand him that kind of salary, there's going to be expectations of living up to it.
  12. if only Santana was the 5th starter, you need to expect more than 1-2 wins difference between a guy on a 20 mil per season contract and guy you just relegated to the bullpen, otherwise, why did you spend the money? Just float a whole rotation of Mike Pelfrey's because it's only the difference between 65 wins and 72 wins.
  13. One would think there would be provisions in the contract for such things. Something to the effect of "if the player gets convicted of PED use by MLB the remainder of the contract is null and void" might have done the trick
  14. i would rather have Pinto's bat in the starting lineup at catcher
  15. this is the reason why I disagree with Nick's assertion that Robinson/Schafer was the breakout for defense. If the FO cared a bit about OF defense, Arcia and Hunter wouldn't both be the corner outfielders. If you need to sub out both corner outfielders to make a competent fielding outfield AND one of the subs is a catcher, something has gone awry. Edit: to clarify, I think the hope with CF is for one of them to catch lighting in a bottle and create trade value. I don't think its because the Team particularly wanted Hicks to get AAA time or that Schafer/Robinson were necessarily the best options.
  16. It's really fun seeing posters who aren't the usual suspects! I dunno Jim. Buxton and Berrios seem to be 2016 or later. Sano probably not until September. May should be taking Santana's spot right now and so far it looks like Pelfrey, so if May and/or Meyer with all of their minor league track records and upside combined can't beat Mike F'ing Pelfrey now? When? Bullpen, yeah if there isn't huge turnover throughout the season, it's because every pitcher at AA and AAA is having Tommy John all at the same time.
  17. Washed up old never was city
  18. we have no idea how the conversation went. By all accounts both TR and Pelf a standup guys, but it could have been something very different than what they are saying to the media. It also could have gone exa
  19. this 100%. I think May is going to triple a because he isn't stretched out enough to start the season, but there is still some time.
