  1. You sign a guy like James Shields to get the performance at the front of the contract and hope the performance at the back of the contract isn't too painful. Trading for James Shields means you give up assets for a smaller window until you hope he isn't a disaster. He might still be an asset this year and next, but I think the Twins would be better served looking for a Catcher or SS that has a longer horizon and a pile of relievers. C and SA are probably more expensive, but definitely worth it.
  2. please let it not be occuponymous... as i like their beer
  3. occuponymous people... like Mr Taylor made pants, or Mr Smith made horseshoes, so Mr Shoemaker throws baseballs?
  4. does someone who gets married, divorced, and married again in the same year only count once?
  5. Aria might have more value to another team who might actually play him in the big leagues. He'd be good in a RF/DH rotation or Rf platoon situation.
  6. the Twins traded away a 4th outfielder they signed earlier in the year away from the A's to get Milone. Why would the Twins get more than a Sam Fuld type back in return for Milone? The Twins already have three Sam Fuld type catchers in Suzuki, Fryer, and Hermann.
  7. Susac for Arcia and Meyer would be awesome. I would think it would take more. Every team knows catchers are valuable commodities to hold on to, even as backups.
  8. i get the righty/lefty thing with Price, but isn't career 217 ba against for lefties against Price, better than any season Robinson ever had?
  9. sound process begets consistent results. If you have sound process but are out of spec, your quality will suck, but do so consistently.
  10. Competent outfielders helps as well, but that could be a chicken and egg type argument. Great article Parker!
  11. talk about statistically significant sample size
  12. Watching the Twins feed, and the Carrier commercial comes on, and I think; "Wouldn't it be great if in 15-20 years I was watching this same commercial with Miguel Sano, including the Kent Hrbek type career"
  13. maybe, more likely it would've been more close than stand up and wait for the relay
  14. that one? Yup, but Zukes hit a double, so he would've been trying to score from second
  15. praising Esco's sac bunt, when if Esco had gotten on base, they would've scored two runs on DanSans triple
  16. what species? Stegosaurus? I bet you can get an ap to tune your cell phone to your hearing aids
