  1. Long distance phone call? What year is this?
  2. 1) Duh! Very few prospects make it. It's really obvious that minor league success doesn't translate to major league success in general. 2) its less about coaches and more about the players. Escobar, Nunez, Schafer, Robinson and Hicks have been staples in the lineup. Good teams have one of those as regulars, not all of them.
  3. at the least he's been a fine bench player, but lately... Hitting and fielding really well
  4. Nunez has been playing like he's trying to win a starting short stop position
  5. i would argue that because of his contract and stature on the team, he is vital to the team's resurgence, in kind of a reverse way. He could be a boat anchor to the slow track if things continue the way they have. I seem to reall being one of the " Joe will bounce back" bobos...
  6. I think relying heavily on reclamation project pitchers points to inability to develop quality pitchers. That's a pretty big problem, and it is exasperated by continuing to salvage those washed up husks of MLB pitchers because the team would spend its time on low upside development rather than high upside development through the farm system.
  7. Thanks Mat! I really enjoy reading your articles. To go along w/ Chitown, you do a great job bringing a very personal voice to a subject I am very interested in, but also very removed.
  8. I gotta think when Arcia comes back, Hunter and Arcia rotate RF and DH, and Stauffer gets DFA'd. Robinson sticks as defensive replacement/pinch runner.
  9. do you really believe that Pelfrey's status and quality of pitching will hold up? Milone may not be better than Pelfrey today, but far better than Pelfrey tomorrow. Gets some trade value while you can, because it won't be there in July. Sad thing is, his trade value is stunted because no GM is going to give up much for "Mike Pelfrey and his two stupid pitches"... God I'm talking myself out of my own argument. I still don't think he will hold up.n
  10. They can DFA Stauffer and still have 12 pitchers, I'd like to see Stauffer DFA'd Duensing DFA'd. Vargas brought up, Milone brought up to the 5th spot in the rotation, and Pelfrey traded for whatever could be had, prospect wise, and Tonkin brought back up.
  11. its baseball, and there are dozens of websites, blogs, YouTube channels, and TV networks that dissect every facet of the game. It's not curing cancer or decrypting the human genome, it's a game. Sure Jack Goin has a far deeper analytical baseball insight than anyone at the economist, or me as a supply chain manager with a degree in manufacturing management, but don't underestimate the statistical understanding of a premier economics magazine.
  12. i went Brokeback Mountain with that quote
  13. Funny stuff. This paints a similar picture as was in my head, only I pictured TR calling Goin a nerd as he slammed the door in his face. I wonder if TR/Mollie were to take a step bs k they'd go " Holy crap! We have a whole team of utility infielders, 4th outfielders, and one out pen specialists.
  14. Mat - thanks for continuing to write for TD. It's really awesome to get a players perspective, and I've never put thought into the non-player/personnel part of the game. I guess it takes a village to build a baseball team.
  15. as the spouse of Lutheran clergy, can I like this again?
