I'm delighted to see this list at various levels. Dobnak is not available option for a team that wants to be in the playoffs. Okert has shown me nothing this year and would be an easy cut. We have to hope that they can bring some new arms up. Weather is converting a starter or going with one of our relief pitchers that are in the minors. I fear burning out the bullpen and they are essential to postseason.

Games like this are why I don't consider Lopez to be an ace. Right now Ober is doing our Ace act. And poor Dobnak is filling a space, but doesn't belong here. Story and a good guy. Lewis is outstanding and I just wish we could get a full year of him to see what he could really do. We know we're going to lose so it isn't the end of the world, just would be nice to see our number one pitcher show a little more.

Do the Twins Have an Ace? How do their starters stack up?
mikelink45 commented on bean5302's blog entry in Shallow Thoughts - bean5302
Not my definition of an Ace. I look at who comes in and rises to the occasion - the pitcher like Morris who will demand the ball and fight through every situation. All the rest of the statistical stuff is fun, but does not do it for me. Who will the team (not just the manager) look to for the big outs and the ability to carry the team. -

I love the KC team - they have a balance of pitching, hitting and defense that is really outstanding. And Bobby Witt is really living up to his prospect projections. Our team looks so much better because we are so familiar with all of them.- 34 replies

Week in Review: Coming Alive After a Deadline Dud
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So long Randy, been nice to know you, but we've got to be moving along!. Stautmont gone, a new mediocre arm arrives and we will soon say good-bye again. The BP is a revolving door.- 20 replies

You are so right. Dobnak here's a funny story and a wonderful guy, but this team needs to be going for the playoffs and beyond.

And who would you put in for him? That is their conundrum.

I have to admit that I really do not know #2 and #3. If I look at this list - is it consistent with how we would rank our milb SP overall?

Hate to have to add this, but the Sox are as bad as any team I can remember. Sorry Chicago, but you stink.

Twins Minor League Hitter of the Month - July 2024

I love seeing our catcher prospects and wonder how close WInkel is to surpassing Camargo. Is there an MLB future for Chris Williams?- 9 replies

The concern going forward is Ryan's giving up a HR. That has been an issue and I hope he can keep them in the park. Everyone gives up HRs, but our almost Ace needs to avoid a HR illness going forward- the second half has not been as good as the first and hopefully he is feeling stronger this year.

But I hope we do not start Ober against KC - they have been toxic for him so far.

I always enjoy these summaries but I have two questions for Seth - first why isn't Keirsey a prospect? Why haven't they given him a day in the majors? (those combine for my first question). Second with all the various pitchers and levels I would like to know how you would rank the top ten minor league pitchers in our system.

Matt Wallner Is Obliterating Baseballs
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It is exciting to have a MN player from MN doing what he is doing - shades of Killebrew -
I cannot buy the small town Twins versus the big city Mets argument. We have the sixteenth largest metro area in the US and we have one rich owner. We choose what we want to be and the deadline says we want to play and pay just enough to be interesting. So I will continue to be interested in prospects.

Mets 15, Twins 2: That's Why They Call It Flushing
mikelink45 replied to Nate Palmer's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well there is not much to write home about. I am on the snake river and we had a fire come right down to the waters edge - smoke filled the sky, planes were flying in and grabbing water. More excitement than the Twins provided. Let's hope the fire is out and the Twins play like contenders tomorrow. -
Week in Review: Adding Reinforcements, Seeking More
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Wallner should have been up earlier. Players come up, adjust, then the league adjusts and the second level of adjustment for the young player takes longer. I see Lee in this situation and I hope we let him play through the adjustment. Julien is the one who seems to be having the most difficulty making the second transition. The BP was once speculated to the one of the best in MLB. How times change. We need Duran to make it back to the pinnacle he has been on. Okert and Thielbar need to be replaced - this is no longer a SSS. Varland seems to be dropping on the SP list and I love the idea of putting him back in the pen. A young live arm succeeding in the BP for the next few years is more appealing to me than the old vet - Okert, Jackson...- 18 replies
