Twins Acquire Gold-Glove Outfielder from Royals
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am glad so many like this - it leaves me shaking my head. Is he really better than Celestino? I do not think so. I wanted to see Celestino continue to progress. Taylor is at his peak. In all I like it better than signing Gallo. But Taylor's bat brings nothing.- 87 replies

I am glad you are more patient than I am with Cavaco and Sabato - neither profiles as a good MLB player to me. As far as injury prone - the dictionary says: often sustaining injuries. Two missed years in a row makes Lewis seem pretty injury prone to me. Larnach and Kiriloff the last two years and minor league injuries as well for Alex make them injury prone and yes I regrettably have to say Buxton is injury prone. An article in the Atlantic says: " Injury is a fact of life for most athletes, but some professionals—and some weekend warriors, for that matter—just seem more injury-prone than others. But what is it about their bodies that makes the bones, tendons, and ligaments so much more likely to tear or strain—bad luck, or just poor preparation? A growing body of research suggests another answer: that genetic makeup may play an important role in injury risk." "Stanford Sports Genetics offer genetic tests that can tell the average consumer about his or her risk for sports injuries, including ACL ruptures, stress fractures, osteoarthritis, and spinal-disc degeneration."

Gleeman & The Geek: Luis Arraez for Pablo Lopez
mikelink45 replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
On ESPN - Brad Doolittle had this to say (requires subscription) about the trade which they say could favor the Twins if the prospects come through: " Since Arraez broke into the majors in 2019, he leads all 247 hitters with at least 1,000 plate appearances with 10.8 at-bats per strikeout, per Baseball-Reference.com. (The Angels' David Fletcher is in second place at 10.0. Incidentally, in dead last with just 2.3 at-bats per strikeout is new Twin Joey Gallo, which makes for an unsightly lineup swap if you want to view the Arraez departure through that lens.)- 2 replies

I have a hard time seeing a real trend here except to say that pitching is trade rich/prospect poor. The left hand column has a lot of pitchers, but I say that none of them has a strong advocate in the FO and they are mostly fillers right now. As for position players the right hand column has a pretty strong TR listing and the position players on the left hand column (this FO) still have a lot to prove before we can pat the draft team on the back. Thirteen pitchers via trade. One waiver and one FA. Not a pipeline. Position players - 6 TR and three FA. Not a big impact from our FO yet. So what is the Falvey philosophy? I cannot see it in this chart.

Keeping the Rolls Royce in the Garage
mikelink45 replied to Alex Boxwell's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Good reflection and I agree - he is a CF star, an okay DH. Play him until he needs a day off, don't do it by some formula. -
I agree, I do want to see our young arms get some starts - so injuries will determine their chances.

Four flops from my perspective - Sabato, Cavaco, Stewart, Jay, Three injury prone and still hoping - Lewis, Larnach, Kiriloff One traded - Petty One a staple on the MLB roster - Gordon And One we have high hopes for - Lee For this to be a good report the three injury guys have to make it along with Lee - if they all turn it around it is a good record..

It is an interesting strategy, but it has to work or it is just a pathway to frustration and the nearest emergency room. Collecting arms and hoping is tough. Getting your young arms up and letting them learn is a better strategy and one the Guardians have followed. Another wait and see experience for fans.

Does Either Former Twins Slugger Have Anything Left?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Sano was really a disappointment to many of us. We had higher hopes, but he regressed (not just the injury) instead of progressing. Not that I like Gallo any better except for his glove. I do hope he finds himself and gets back into MLB, but the fact that no one has taken a chance on him so far says a lot about the leagues perspective.- 20 replies

With Rod Carew and Luis Arraez setting the standard, I warn any future Twins that winning a batting title is the quickest way out of town. I just came back from Panama and went by Rod Carew Stadium in Panama City many times. Perhaps I will see a Luis Arraez stadium someday if I am allowed to return to Venezuela.

If he doesn't we will all be disappointed. Now let's hope that old injury doesn't flare up.

The only way to know the best trade chips is to listen to what the other teams want. It's always easy to say we've got extra outfielders so trade one or we got too many Short stops now so let's trade one. But if the other side doesn't want them there is no trade. I'm also questioning the wisdom of trading Gray. What has more value in this day and age than a good pitcher and if we think he doesn't have value now because he has only one year left on his contract the other teams will feel the same. We speculate on the value of our two returning injured pitchers but we have no true way of judging whether they will be good or bad. I have no problem with a trade I just can't speculate until I know the teams that are involved and what each needs.

I am in an airport in Houston so I don't know if I have already responded or not. It'll look like my response disappeared. I think it's great that would cut down the years. The money is something I can't discuss because it doesn't make sense to me on any level in baseball but this retains the status quo it does not put us over the top. I'm glad to have him and he is an excellent player but our new catcher may be more of a difference Maker as long as we have last year's team in place. The key now is the development of our young players and the health of our pitchers.

Twins Acquire RHP A.J. Alexy from Nationals
mikelink45 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Can we please add a real reliever? Is fine to fill up our Fix-It shop with all of these guys with potential and no control but I don't want them on the mound when the game counts. I would like us to find a reliever who isn't DFA by another team -
Assessing the Twins' Signing of Carlos Correa
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like the adjustment in years - this is what makes sense. Good luck to Correa to stay in top shape. When you look at the impacts I have to say I prefer Gordon to so who do we off load one of these to. I am stuck with Gallo so some of my desires will be circumvented since I want Arraez, Kiriloff, and Larnach all in the lineup. Of course the question mark is Kepler.- 35 replies

Since I do not buy in to Gallo, the retention of Correa keeps the status quo, but Vazquez is actually the person who moves us up a notch. No more Sanchez and Jeffers can work on getting better. The team is in a better situation. I like Miranda at third, Kiriloff at 1st with Arraez, Larhach or Wallner at DH - quit looking at has beens. We need to move forward and this can make a difference. Now the biggest need is for Maeda and Mahle to reach the levels that were projected. The team is feeling better if we can pull all these things together and if they are willing to pull the Gallo plug if he does not work out.
