  1. I think the bullpen would benefit greatly from designating Sands as the multi inning long man reliever, and then calling up Alcala and Varland as high octane , one inning set up arms. Getting a solid starter at the trade deadline sure wouldn't hurt either...
  2. Will be interesting to see how Zebby Mathews does today in his second AA start. He has looked great this year. I'll also be keeping an eye on Varland. If he starts to tire or become more ineffective the second or third time through the order, I think the twins could really use him in our bullpen like they did late last year. Everyone knows our bullpen has been overworked and needs reinforcement
  3. I've been infuriated with Baldelli's managing of not just the bullpen but the lineups this year as well. Way to dependant on "platoon advantage". We shouldn't ever be sitting out best and hottest hitters in order to start our worst and coldest hitters just because of what side they hit from. Pitching wise, Alcala should be used like they used Stewart. One inning guy, few times per week.
  4. As long as he continues to improve his control and continue to pitch deeper and deeper into games, I think there's a good chance he does get a handful of starts in the majors. Would be a good test for him, and check off one more obstacle to him potentially making the team out of spring training next year.
  5. Too early to tell. I also think our playoff odds are going to be dependent on how well the trade deadline goes. If we can pick up a decent starter or some bullpen help, I like our chances. If we totally get hosed like the last few years, it's going to make it that much harder. Al central is not a push over division anymore...
  6. I think Kiriloff could benefit from a AAA trip. Replace him with Keirsey Jr and see what he can do for a few weeks. I think it's obvious we need some bullpen help. It's looking more likely that Topa isn't coming back anytime soon so there needs to be an addition or two from outside the organization. Make a trade or see who available as a FA
  7. Excited to see Festa and Keirsey Jr get their shot. E-Rod should get a bump to AAA at some point if he continues to hit well. Really impressed with Zebby Mathews. He may end up being one of our best pitching prospects:)
  8. Bullpen definitely needs help. Stewart would be the biggest addition. Not sure what's up with Topa. Might be another desclafini situation. We're gonna need another arm or two at the trade deadline for sure...
  9. I'd say another great trade was half a year of Nelson Cruz for rotation stalwart Joe Ryan. Plenty of bad trades too though, look at last year's deadline. Still hurts to see CES and Spencer Steer hitting so well...
  10. After Duran, Stewart and Jax, I think our bullpen needs serious help. Call up Alcala and put Varland in the bullpen. Pick up a starter and a solid setup guy at the deadline and I think we'd have a chance. Worried about Topa, sounds like he might be another trade acquisition that will never throw a single pitch for us. Are we really this lazy with our physical examinations?
  11. 88 mph fastball? Unless he's got some electric secondary pitches he kind of sounds like a batting practice pitcher. What do I know though, now he'll probably win a cy young :)
  12. I would love to see him with the twins. Rocco places way too much importance on platooning, I just don't get it. Play your best hitters man. These young lefties need to learn how to hit lefty handed pitchers but they never will if you're constantly pulling them for RH hitters(that are doing nothing at the plate) like Margot and Farmer...
  13. Will be nice to follow his development. I wouldn't get too crazy praising the twins "pitching pipeline" though. I mean success stories for Ober....who else? Festa can't throw strikes, Raya can't throw more than 50 pitches and might be a bullpen guy. Don't get me wrong, I watch all these guys and am rooting for all of them. Let's just not count our chickens...
  14. I think Miranda has earned an everyday spot on the team. When Lewis comes back maybe that pushes Miranda to first base. I wouldn't mind that, he's got way more offensive upside than Santana or Kiriloff which is what you need from the 1b position.
  15. I'm more excited about Canterino, if we can ever get him healthy. Also Zebbys Mathews, he's looked like an ace in the minors this year. Festa has command problems and Raya never throws more than 2-3 innings, which makes me think one or both of them are probably headed for a bullpen role which would lower their value.
  16. Do we have a team option on Kepler for next year, or is this for sure his final year of his contract?
  17. Will be fun to keep an eye on Zebbys progression. Varland really is fighting it. I think they give him two or three more starts. If he can't find any success by then, move him to the bullpen where he can be a power throwing weapon for the Twins like he was in the playoffs last year. We could use another good bullpen arm anyways...
  18. I'm thinking maybe a AAA trip would do him some good. Plus Keirsey Jr is raking right now and could be a great boost for our offense. Plus he can play center field.
  19. I really wish they would cut Margot and bring up Keirsey Jr. Or send down Kiriloff for a bit to find his swing. I'm worried about our bullpen, especially with Stewart, probably our second best reliever hurt and now Topa probably not coming back anytime soon. Maybe we should stick Varland in the bullpen as long relief man for awhile to take some of the pressure off the rest of the BP. A trade or FA signing probably couldn't hurt either, as long as we stop trading for injured pitchers:(
  20. I hope we get to see Keirsey in MLB soon. He's a definite upgrade over Margot. I don't care that he hits left handed, give him a shot. Maybe swap places with Kiriloff for awhile, give AK a chance to get his swing back in AAA... Also why does it seem like all our minor league pitchers K a lot of hitters, but also cannot control the walks, which is why they never get past the 3rd inning:(
  21. I think the book is out on AK. He'll have to learn to make adjustments quick, or his batting average will be in danger of falling below .200 like Julien's...
  22. Unfortunately I'm not so sure we have a "pitching pipeline". Sure SWR has looked good, but it's only been three starts. Wait until teams hd e a scouting report on him first before declaring him a success. Look what happened with Varland. This team is one injury in the rotation away from trotting out Randy Dobnak or signing a Dallas Keuchal type. Festa and Raya haven't looked great this year in their VERY short starts..
  23. I just do not understand bringing in our worst hitter Margot to PH for fome of our best hitters, especially in the 4th inning? And then pulling Ober after like 84 pitches? Then having Alcala pitch tro innings when he was clearly out of gas...very questionable management decisions lately... I say we cut Margot and call up Keirsey Jr. Would be an immediate upgrade for both offense and defense, seeing as Margot looks completely lost in the outfield
  24. I think he's about everything you can ask for in a super utility guy. Fun as heck to watch too. I really hope he can stay healthy and keep hitting. It's also nice to have a guy on this team that can actually steal some bases too. Other than Castro I don't think anyone will have more than ten SB. Definitely not Mr Glass Byron Buxton lol...
  25. I also love the idea of cutting Margot and calling up Keirsey Jr. I haven't seen Deshawn play yet, but he's got to be a better defender than Margot has been this year. I mean, what the heck happened to Margot, he looks lost out there. If we did call up Keirsey, then they could move E-Rod up to AAA to take his place. Maybe around June they'll consider this, at least they should. Though I doubt they will cut ties with Margot and eat the salary. That would be admitting they were wrong...lol
