  1. One thing we are all not considering here. Health. Think of how many games where Buxton, Lewis and Correa have been available to play. Putting together a lineup for 162 is much more involved than examining stat sheets to find your best lineup. Just last night we saw Buxton pull himself from the game forcing Margot into action. (don't get me started on Buxton's fragility!). I'm not a fan of Rocco's lineup construction but admire how the players have responded when called upon to step up. To think the Twins offense ranks in the top ten of MLB given our optimal lineup has been out there for less than 30 games... stats don't tell that story.
  2. Good points. I prefer Martin in the 9 hole for his speed.
  3. Interesting.... I too recall past discussions of core and leg work among pitchers. I would add: there are many throwers now, not so many pitchers. Pitchers don't use max effort on every pitch, saving for critical moments as they read the game situation. Throwers are all out effort and rely more on overpowering the batter. MLB at some point decided it is better to have bunch of Throwers who can go 150 innings max vs. Pitchers who can go 180 innings and more. I believe this was a response to the rise in offense across the league these last 10(?) years.
  4. Very true. Trades have ripple effects often. Roles change among other players. Playing time gets cut. So it is not a simple matter of one player replacing another. It is said, "be careful what you wish for, you might actually get it."
  5. I'd like to know more about the offers made for Duran and Kepler. Duran could have been flipped for a solid pitcher and a prospect. Then give Jax closing duties.
  6. 💯 Exactly! Sending the wrong message to players and fans these last several months. If you just consider the attitude of ownership you would not think this team was competitive, yet here they are in good shape to make the playoffs. Hats off to players and coaches!
  7. Twins have pieces that other teams could use. Talent that could have netted a reliable left handed pitcher. I'm thinking kirilloff, Wallner or Margo (who has been performing lately). Packaging one of them with a low level prospect could have meant something. On the flip side...hard to make these deals when prices are inflated.
  8. If I were an on field member of this organization I would be livid. If the FO can do no better to support our play with adding a meaningful piece. Very tough to stomach when it's clear what our needs are... quality left handed pitching.
  9. One thing we are forgetting in this debate. There are other teams that are facing the same decisions. I believe our depth is an advantage on the pitching side and our versatility on the hitting side. SWR and Ober are strong 3 and 4 starters...matching up well against strong lineups lately. Cleveland, KC, Boston, the Rangers do not have the pitching depth of our starters. To bring in a leftie relief pitcher is our best move and it can be done with little impact to our roster... Larnach, Wallner or Kirilloff and a low level minor prospect perhaps.
  10. excellent analysis! I would add the old time idea. "Sell high, buy low". Right now we have some players that are doing well that are replaceable. Alcala or Jax on the pitching side and Wallner, Larnach and Margot on the hitting side. Move one or two for leftie pitching help. I would target Tyler Anderson of the Angels.
  11. I don't know of anyone writing in defense of kirilloff here or otherwise. Miranda thus far has had one fine season ('22) and flashes of greatness this season. His fielding is what is limiting him, not his batting. Fulltime DH is not the answer given the desires to rotate others in there. I see him getting plenty of AB's for Lewis and Santana along with DH. Trying to find playing time for Miranda is a good problem to have, and until his fielding at 1b improves he has no every day position.
  12. I would not count on anything from Topa. If we want to go with 5.... Correa, Lewis, Buxton, Lopez, Santana. Yes Santana. He has been clutch since very early. Plays every day and gives us fine play in the field. If we give him some days off to stay fresh (insert Miranda) he will be critical to our success come September and playoffs. We know Correa, Lewis and Buxton will be rested; so give Santana that same time while Miranda gets his AB's. That is a good INF... Lewis, Correa, Lee, Santana with Miranda and Castro to sub in. Julien (perhaps Lee) back to AAA. DFA Farmer and Kirilloff, and promote Keashall and Zebby for stretch run.
  13. ask about zebby first off. I would counter offer Soto and kirilloff given we are pursuing a solid left handed starter.
  14. Tyler Anderson Tanner Scott Both fill the most pressing of needs. The question is how high a prospect in return. Another consideration is signing them to a multi year deal. A deal for one of these two has to be a higher priority.
  15. The Twins have one obvious need. Pitching from the left side. Kikuchi provides the most upside at a reasonable price. That would be one of our OF (Wallner or Larnach) and low level prospect.
  16. Assuming the Twins are in a selling mood. It is said, "sell high, buy low". My thoughts then. Sell Jax for #3 starter (Pittsburgh, Giants or Milwaukee are looking for relief help). He gives us the greatest return while Alcala can assume his role with confidence. If however they are buying...then move kiraloff for a leftie relief arm.
  17. I would like to see someone do comparables to current MLB players of this draft class.
  18. I'm guessing catching prospects were few because this is the one area the Twins are very thin at. I see/pray a trade for catching depth in our future.
  19. BINGO! Also, it pains me to watch Jeffers catch...sets a moving target, poor at blocking pitches and below average throwing out base-runners. Harrison has trouble with lefties so where was Kepler...who can play a very good OF? Wallner is made for DH.
  20. The good news of Lee's success will become bad news for Farmer's roster spot once Lewis is healthy. I believe FO will make a minor trade for pitching depth. Oakland or Miami would be good trade partners.
  21. I'm not use to the Twins lacking focus in the field, but these last two games have me wondering. Friday they made some serious mental errors. The most glaring was Moranda's play attempt to tag the base runner and make a throw to 1st. Then to watch Vasquez was not a pretty sight either. Then yesterday the continued mental errors in the fifth inning were nerve racking. I didn't watch but listening was enough to give me fits. Twins need to improve their fielding to support the pitcher...only giving the opponents three outs.
  22. Tyler Rodgers would be a great find, but to suggest the Twins go after another utility player makes no sense to me. Our greatest need is OF depth in terms of offense. Margot has shown signs of life lately but I don't trust his defense, and Castro is no better. Larnauch is capable but needs opportunities to improve. Farmer is dead weight. Time to give Wallner another shot and move Farmer for a prospect or two.
  23. For me it is simple. The Guardians don't give anything away. They don't give away at bats and their pitchers stay focused. Which means to beat them you have to stick to a plan. Twins hitters give away too many AB's (strand % is high) and pitchers get beat with their third best pitch.
  24. This. It is no coincidence that with the arrival of lewis we see improved play of other Twins... Kepler, Correa and Miranda in particular. I agree too with the concern for Rocco's fumbling with the lineup card. Give the boys time to get comfortable with where they hit is my thought.
  25. To begin with my thoughts. Jackson is long overdue. He is penalized for his "participation" in 1919 gambling scandal. He hit very well over the course of that series, though he did muff a key play in the outfield. His career speaks for itself. He was a premier player in his time... The Babe thought highly of him. Rose is a different and difficult call for me. I don't like him for one play...he leveled Ray Fosse in an All-Star Game. Fosse was never the same player. I believe it was Fosse's rookie season as well. What a shame to make that play in an exhibition game. Fosse went on to be involved in MLB (broadcasting A's games many years). I believe MLB will remove Rose from banishment once he passes away. Meaning he could very well end up in the HOF. So; to summarize... Jackson YES: Rose: NO Thanks for your thoughts.
