Emmanuel Rodriguez Is Coming In Hot
mrcharlie replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With his power those singles are just as likely doubles and the good possibility of a few home runs. As to his ranking across MLB as a hitter. You might want to research that statement of yours. Heck: there are 30+ OF alone who are better hitters. -
Emmanuel Rodriguez Is Coming In Hot
mrcharlie replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I can explain it. While his value is high and he is replaceable. It is that simple. We have two solid OF coming up in the next season or two in ERod and Jenkins. I would support keeping him if he can demonstrate an ability to hit the ball to all fields. Otherwise, he is expendable, along with Larnach. -
Of this bunch Wallner is the most sensible trade piece. He carries the most upside which if he is marketed well by the FO can bring a good return. Teams with shorter Rf fences who need a fourth outfielder (Bosox?) I'm thinking. A good return I believe has to include pitching... MLB ready.

True Story. Some guy threw several chicken hearts onto the bench of the Boston Bruins during a North Stars game. Seems the North Stars fan had access to cases of whole chickens at work. He had read that Wayne Cashman (Bruins goon) had called out the 'Stars as "...chicken hearted". This was his opportunity to defend his beloved North Stars! It is known that the fan hired a high priced lawyer to represent the 26 year old man in court. While the judge admired his fandom of the North Stars he did sentence him to one year probation. I miss those North Stars and still hope Wayne Cashman enjoyed the chicken hearts shower!!

Emmanuel Rodriguez Is Coming In Hot
mrcharlie replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The idea of Pittsburgh as a trade partner was my thought also. They have some pitching and I think they may be interested in some of our power bats. Twins minor league system is well stocked and ranks highly among all MLB. It's time to see that talent create results by promoting or trading. -
Your point about knowing a role on the roster is spot on. That requires evaluating and planning from FO and coaching staff that I suspect is less than the MLB standard here. Among the names listed I think the best opportunity given Twins $ and proven talent is Ferguson. Our best chance of picking up an impact arm is by trade though.

Moneyball: Recreating Willi Castro in the Aggregate
mrcharlie replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I keep him. He deserves the opportunity. You recognize Severini would be a downgrade. Castro was arguably the Twins MVP when you consider playng time. He did get the call to play in All Star Game. If they choose to sign and trade, I like that idea because his value is high now. Just don't expect a front line player for him...a solid relief pitcher would be nice (strahm, of Phillies comes to mind). -
Sorry, not buying. The best offenses use the whole field for hits. This article represents the idea that you can use stats to support any claim. By most stats the Twins offense as a whole was in the mid range of MLB.

This is very true. The coaches didn't have much to work with, but they misread numerous in game situations.

What Was the Point of Signing Carlos Correa?

The Twins Have a First Base Problem
mrcharlie replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I floated this idea two seasons ago with the same response from readers. It seems readers believe, like BB, that his place is in CF. PERIOD. That view is I believe is contrary to team play. Given that Correa, for one example, declared, "This is Buck's team."; says a lot to me. A team lead by a 'me first' personality has one big hurdle to overcome before they find long term success.- 85 replies

The Twins Have a First Base Problem
mrcharlie replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The premiss of the article relates to the historical lack of offense out of 1st base. In 2024 Santana produced better than many other Twins while also doing Gold Glove work in the field. Yes, he did not provide the numbers of Morneau or Hrbek but few players can do that across MLB today. The Twins have many other more pressing issues to consider. Figure out the bullpen, develop a training program to keep players on the field, become more athletic via trade and promotion of prospects would be my priorities.- 85 replies

The Twins Have a First Base Problem
mrcharlie replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Wallner has the arm to be effective in the outfield. Larnach can move around between OF, 1st and DH. That said; I don't understand the quick judgement that Santana is not a viable candidate to come back. He did enough to earn that option in 2025. He can be a solid defender and mentor to the young players. All this chatter about kiraloff and Miranda solves nothing. Both players have negatives I believe that only continues to create problems... K's trust with coaches and Miranda's one dimensional offense. I view them as good candidates for trade.- 85 replies

Ranking the Twins’ Worst Base Runners in 2024
mrcharlie replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As I may be repeating another response here I do apologize in advance... This aspect of the Twins game is not solely on the shoulders of players. Our base coaches are average at best, and just plain horrible much of the time. The need to get their head out of their @$$ and in the game!- 23 replies

Twins need to improve their situational approach. Only Correa seemed to do it with any regularity. Of particular concern is how they give away at bats...not good at fouling off pitches until they get one they can handle(chasing pitches) or taking a walk. Let's see how this improves.
-
Santana was near the top in many offense areas for the Twins. He was far and away their best defensive player. How this article makes an argument for Goldy based on Santana's performance is plain insulting to anyone knowledgeable of baseball and the Twins 2024 season! If you want to simply make a case for Goldy...fine, but no need to mischaractorize Santana's value to the Twins.

Coaching staff is important to how the players prepare for their game, both generally and vs a specific opponent. In game it is more reflex reactions to a play; but good coaching can emphasize the positives and discuss the poor play in the dugout. That said, I was repeatedly yelling at my radio for bone head base running and believe both Watkins and Conger are part of the problem.

If I Owned The Minnesota Twins: A Wish List
mrcharlie replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would bring in a baseball person I trust to handle baseball operations. Let them evaluate the Twins system until winter meetings. Bring with them folks they know and trust to those meetings to establish better inter-league relationships. I would survey my marketing department to flesh out creative ideas, and identify positives and negatives. I would hire a third party marketing firm to survey the fanbase (Not just season ticket holders). By January 1,2025 have a fresh marketing program in place. MN is a hockey state, so i look for opportunities to co-op marketing with youth thru pro hockey programs. Have a series of sit downs with all on field personnel. Led by my person in charge of baseball ops. I would make necessary changes to maximizes the Twins talent. Taking a very close look at coaching philosophy and medical/training practices; ask for consistent messages throughout the organization. Identify weak links among personnel and discuss a way to go forward with or without them. Have baseball ops. department look for answers to our priorities from within and outside Twins. Encourage everyone in the Twins organization to have fun while working together...team work extends way beyond the playing field. -
The Pohlads will explore selling the team
mrcharlie replied to Vanimal46's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
No. There is much interest in an MLB franchise in Nashville and Montreal, to name just two that are MLB ready. That said, I would be very surprised by such a move; but I remember the North Stars! -
I recall an observation some years ago that makes good sense to me. MLB teams make more money finishing second (in the playoffs) than winning it all. The difference being the raises and bonus $ paid out after a WS win. However, that is not to say a WS victory is not profitable, but just maybe some ownership may not be so concerned about a WS title.
