  1. Indeed. I would suggest though that the problems have existed for some time but with the losing it is more visable. And it does reflect on the coaching. So I am hoping changes are made in that department.
  2. This touched on one of my concerns. Preparation. I have serious doubts that the Twins as a whole are well prepared for each game. Lately the body language and performance has lacked any sign of resilience. What they lack is leadership to help them get through. Properly designed and coached preparation for this part of the season should be the biggest part. Then it is up to the player to do their part.
  3. Yes playing very uninspired baseball. You would think they are 20 games out of it the way they look and play. The body language is not good among the position players. And what the H is Watkins doing over there coaching at 3rd base. Sending Miranda was just plain stupid. He has run us out of scoring chances too many times this season. Miranda in particular is not one to run there...maybe Castro or Martin. Our base coaches are not good. Conger sends guys on long singles to get cut down at 2nd base. It's like they don't know the opposing team defense. Players and Rocco take the heat for their screw ups!
  4. Agree. Rocco relies on his coaching staff very much for the small and important elements. Lately the Twins have looked weak on defense and the base running is poor. These are issues the staff can and should address. And yes, the at bats we give away every game is tough to watch.
  5. Rocco deserves some credit for the Twins being in a position to make the playoffs. However, his continued shuffling of the lineup is baffling. In his defense for the great majority of the season he has been limited by injury to put together a lineup of our best hitters. But it is true that (as with any job) a person will be better prepared if they know their role from day to day. The only critical element in putting together a lineup is #1,2,3 need to be your most productive because they will bat the most often in a game. We can debate who those are at the moment, but when the time comes when everyone is healthy... Correa, Santana, Lewis are very good options.
  6. To suggest a .250 average with 25 HR power over the length of 162 games puts him in the class of the best in MLB is ridiculous. He has one swing. I do see him maturing to be a more complete threat at the plate if he responds to coaching.
  7. On paper...the same could have been said of this year. I believe Twins window of opportunity to be serious playoff/WS contender is a few seasons away...if at all. The AL Central is going to continue to be getting better so the Twins have that future to deal with first. As long as the Twins success on offense is determined by the long ball they will struggle to compete. Good pitching defeats good hitting the majority of times...that is further in evidence in the playoffs. One way to stay competitive on offense is to put the ball in play and put pressure on the defense to make a play. The Twins are poor at this aspect of an offense strategy... poor base stealing/running, poor bat to ball adjustments, poor situational hitting. This version of the Twins is not the Bomba Squad. That team was an outlier. Wallner, Larnach, and Julien need to show they can adjust to certain situations and become hitters as opposed to swingers.
  8. I appreciate your brave attempt to look into any future for the Twins. Your analysis of the core strengths and starting pitching is spot on. where I do differ from your thinking is regarding additions and subtractions to the roster. Santana has been a clutch and steady contribution this season. He provides the quiet veteran leadership this team needs. If the Twins choose to let him go because of his age it will be a big mistake. As far as potential additions... First off I embrace the sell high and buy low approach. Verlander will not come for a low price. Twins should move one of the younger core players who can bring back quality pitching. Lee or Larnach are good options I think.
  9. If you consider the on field performance of Twins fielders and hitters there is no player with a better 2024. Looking at his clutch hitting, his solid defense, his everyday health how can we not consider 2024 an MVP season for the Twins. There can be no doubt that he and Castro have lead our lineup throughout the season. I mention Castro because he has stepped in consistently for teammates who could not perform.
  10. Agree on all points. Players who are considered team leaders find a way to gut it out this stage of the season. Considering the precarious state of the Twins hope for a playoff role only emphasizes the need for leadership. Correa and Buxton are more career minded than team players.
  11. Ownership does not understand the entertainment business. MLB is an entertainment business and to be successful the product must be attractive.
  12. Agree. I will emphasize the thought they are capable and willing to compete. Twins will go as far as this group can take us, so let them pitch into the sixth or longer. Otherwise the prospects for success are slim given our thin bullpen, struggling offense and uninspired play in general. This last month games have been given away by bone-head base running and defensive lapses of epic proportions. And don't get me started on coaching. F,..ing A
  13. I am not a fan of Rocco but given the roster he has to work with this season it counts for something to see them 13 games over 500 at this point. Not until he has post season success will I think he belongs in the conversation.
  14. Luck has something to do with success as far as the level of talent available. Guardians out do Twins in pitching department, and we all know good pitching beats good hitting over time. Offense is exciting for the casual fan but if you really appreciate the game you want solid pitching foremost.
  15. "You gotta be good to be lucky!" Not a Yogi proverb. If you are in a position to take advantage of your good fortune then you gets positive results
  16. Agree. Mets, Giants and others also took a look at his rep among players. I can't imagine most players would be happy to call a known cheat a teammate. MLB does have a serious problem here. Look into 1919 Scandal and pardon them (it's so popular now to re-write history) or put the screws to '17 Astros. Could there be much more MLB is hiding in going so easy on Astros!?
  17. Twins pitching in general appears lethargic. Besides SWR and Ober they don't look confident on the mound. Confident pitchers go with their best in critical moments. If you're gonna get beat it better be on your best pitch. All the change ups?!
  18. This article would be good reading if the Twins were 6 games up on the the guardians and KC with maybe 9 games to play. Twins best be far from planning for the playoffs. They have a lot of work to do and looking at the few games gives plenty of reasons to doubt they will be playing in October.
  19. Twins won't get any help from the schedule. Re: Sunday loss. Bullpen should have been active once Alcala entered the game w/ Jax and Richards/Thielbar throwing. The contact play in 10th I don't like (w/ 2 outs ok).
  20. I just recently purchased MLB TV to watch the Twins. My impressions... Prebus is average at best. Hawkins is horrible. Smalley and Morneau have a great vibe that helps Prebus.
  21. MLB is conducting a survey of MLB TV viewers. It is only recently that I purchased MLB TV to watch the Twins. I don't know if perhaps this survey is an ongoing project, but I do hope they make use of the results. Don't hesitate to take it if given the opportunity. There are two subjects addressed in the survey I found particularly interesting to consider. One question was regarding the Twins specifically... How is the Twins organization doing in terms of player development (paraphrased)? I grade them as doing well. The recent news that the Twins top 30 prospects rank 2nd in MLB gives us reason to feel good about the future if indeed the Twins maximize the talent. Second; a question concerning improving the game experience from a fan's perspective. I have long held that ground-rule doubles are the most frustrating play/ruling of the game. I would replace it with a ground-rule triple. A runner on third base has more opportunities to score, disrupts the pitchers rhythm and puts more pressure on the defense. Of course, think of all the runners on first who would now score on a ground-rule triple. Carlos Santana is clutch!! What are your thoughts? Have you taken this survey?
  22. Seriously...6 inches? I think not. Keep in mind that game officials make calls that favor our teams often. I would ascert that over the course of a game calls will go both ways. Jeffers has never impressed me. He sets up a poor target, he is poor at blocking balls in the dirt and throwing out runners. The Twins made a mistake in the draft by not taking a top catcher...it is the weakest position throughout the organization.
  23. A six man rotation is possible. In fact a good one. Our young arms need to conserve innings at this point in the season. I'm not big on the idea of Hill being the answer but a veteran SP would be a good addition.
  24. The most complete game the Twins have played in some time. Just one thought to add. Will Vasquez function as Matthews personal catcher going forward?
  25. John Castino. "Johnny C" was the first Twins player I got to liking. He shared rookie of the year honors. His career was cut short by back injuries What news of him?
