    The Twins need to gamble. Stop nursing so-so teams with no chance of winning the WS. Trade hard and deep now for as many top pitching prospects as they can get. They need a pitching staff to gel at the right time before the Twins can no longer afford them (3-4 years from now). They can always trade good pitchers for high return later if need be.

    While around 80% of top 100 prospects end up playing in the majors, only around 20% of top 100 prospects EVENTUALLY become top tier players. I would call both Jax and Duran top tier players. Sounds like a rip-off to me.

    I like Lee, but the Twins need to base their future on rugged players. His back problems are a deal breaker IMO. The Twins have been nothing but constant injuries for years. It's really getting old. I'll say something positive; Buxton finally looks more durable.

    The only way to make a playoff run is with lights out pitchers, including 3 excellent starters. The Twins will NEVER have money for that unless they get lucky with a few pitchers developing at the same time out of a bunch of good prospects. I say make above-value trades now for the best pitching prospects they can get. One or 2 of our catcher prospects will work out. Otherwise it's limp along, maybe make the playoffs now and then and get beat right away. Good pitching trump's good hitting, always has always will.

    "The hope remains that López can build up in time for a meaningful late-season and potential postseason role. " Post season? If the Twins somehow made a miraculous end-of-season run to make the playoffs, they would 100% let down in the playoffs. Their only choice now is to totally clean house for top prospects, round out the good prospects they have. Trade the top dollar guys now! Stop limping along with no future. Losing with future potential is waaay better than just losing.

    Great players lead by example. Good hitting (Puckett .318 lifetime BA) is contagious, especially in the post season. Correa sub .200, Buxton sub .250 doesn 't cut it. Currently there's 32 guys with at least 60 AB's hitting over .300 in the MLB. There's 30 teams. Keaschall's over .300 with 12 AB's, Wallner's decent at .263. After that it's almost impossible to have so many guys with beyond TERRIBLE averages.

    "Rocco's use of Funderburk was in direct contradiction of what he said in yesterday's post game about not giving up until elimination was mathematically official." Rocco's numbers told him there was a .513 chance that Funderburk, on that day, at that time, with that crowd size, could possibly get the next batter out. Who cares that he has to face 3.

    One thing Twins batters haven't done all year with bases loaded is take a strike. Make the pitcher throw a strike with bases loaded before swinging. Not only that, they constantly swing at bad pitches with bases loaded. After Lewis grounded out (again) in the 11th, Twins still had bases loaded with 2 outs. Santana takes 2 balls and I'm thinking, yayyyyy, they finally learned to take a strike with bases loaded (little league 101). The pitcher throws another ball and Santana SWINGS!!! Instead of 3-0 bases loaded, one more ball and walk-off, now it's 2-1 and of course Santana flies out. Professional baseball?

    Topa has a rubber arm with Seattle last year with 75 appearances, sub-3 era, no problem, on cruise control. Then he meets the mightiest foe; the Twins' injury curse.

    Is it just me or has Duran picked up a Thielbar-esque quirk in his delivery more and more lately? He doesn't raise the ball above his glove like Thielbar (and the purposeful meatball throwers at the Home Run Derby), but he's pulling the ball further out of his glove earlier than he used to. He seems to have lost his control as well.

    I've been thinking the same thing lately. I grew up laying on the floor head in hands watching the Griffith era Twins on B&W TV while my dad and grandpa watched from their easy chairs, mostly nodding off but opening an eye and negatively grunting or sighing every so often. They never cheered or even talked positively when the Twins went on a winning streak every 5 years or so (also satire, see def above). There's no pressure when the Twins lose, no obligation to get emotionally involved, just a peaceful feeling of oh well maybe next year, but never really believing (or hoping?) "next year" will pan out. Before the WS wins, the Twins were very much like the Vikes are now. They burned their fans out to the point of peaceful numbness.
