    If your basic (and honest effort is pretty basic) needs are met, you and I will likely get a surprising number of wins as a "bonus"! With or without those bonus wins, it is already easier to truly root for "the kids" than it was...

    "Cannon" is a perfect descriptor for Wallner's arm. Incredible power in it, but takes forever to reload. Elite arms are Howitzers. Much faster load time making it an asset in action.

    Two weeks ago my expectations were that the Twins would play heartless, uninspired and fundamentally... well, I guess terrible is as strong as will be allowed. Good riddance to such expectations!

    That last Sox playoff team was seen not as an endpoint but of a decade of coming Chicago dominance of at least the AL Central. Jackie Robinson II and his precipitous drop-off were "shocking" and "unprecedented" (ESPN talking heads, sane and lucid as always) but were almost matched by the fall of the ChiSox as a whole!

    100% true. Also true? Not going to miss the best Twins SS I've seen play. I'd rather see Greg Gagne or Roy Smalley man the position. Today. Guessing at about 60 and 70+ years old. I know they'd try! (Sorry, just a tad too young to remember quality Zolo Versialles)

    The catchers are mortal!!!! Time to see just how shallow (or, underrated!) the Twins catching actually is. I won't even wonder how Vasquez is out with "an infected shoulder"... assuming a typo by AP's overnight staff.

    Even at his best, his output had to be considered disappointing based on what was expected. His "eye", a supposed asset never made the majors. He was never the quality contact hitter he showed in the minors. A quality MLB player can still be a disappointment. If Sano was ever a quality overall player can be debated. What really cannot is that he never approached the heights that most baseball people saw for him.

    Still waiting for Miguel Sano's MiLB numbers to translate.... And those were actually spectacular stats, across the board. And added such tantalizing morsels such a season with more walks than Ks (Iirc) at high A.

    "Dismantling" this team wasn't just the best idea out if the Twins braintrust in years, it was ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!!! Quit polishing last months turdsandwich and telling us it was tuna fish!

    What you are describing is a "team". It is this revolutionary idea that a group can be collectively better than the sum of the individuals. Twins fans can be forgiven for forgetting this concept, as it hasn't been seen on a diamond in several years...

    Same sort of "elite" as an outfielder with an elite arm that gets run on more than anyone. Successfully. Or the "elite" reliever whose blown 7 games in just over a half season. You know, Falvey-esque, new Twins-style elite!

    Interesting idea, but at the end of the day, will you have produced starting pitching, or simply "uncovered" your next long reliever?

    How about we rephrase the question... What does it say about your roster when you don't even want to use a regular lineup? A week ago Rocco had a roster where he had 2 positions that had "regulars". One has a recent injury history that makes his availability a regular question and results that made me question if he was ever healthy since signing. The second has a longer and even worse history of availability. I agree that regular production requires regular playing time. But, this is a team that wanted to start the season with 2 IFs whose defense were both rock bottom in baseball. If (when) Bader wasn't in the lineup, the outfield also had two of the worst defenders in baseball! It was an obvious (to me) recipe for failure. That Falvey actually seemed pleased with his work is even more of in indictment of his professional abilities than even his outright failure in constructing the roster!

    The Rox have the best beer selection and nicest vista in sports. No need for hope!

    Needed to be done. No question. Bad baseball being played with no urgency or heart. A slew of one-dimenional (usually only "potential", not results) guys who either lacked the drive to improve themselves, or were unable to be "coached up" by the current regime. It is nothing short of professional malpractice that the "team" ever got to the point it was a week ago. The recognition that this amalgamation was an absolute waste of time is the most promising sign from Target Field in years!

    I disagree on Castro. He is absolutely not a building block. He is a luxury on a well-constructed roster. A guy who can step in and play about 7 of the 9 positions. Almost adequately. None of them well. And his flaws at any position become move noticeable with every game played. A good utility guys based on his versatility. But the Twins played him as regularly as a "starter" without a position. The result was poor to adequate defense all over the field, which was nothing but proof of horrific roster construction. My old Ranger truck is is adequate. It always starts. Heat is fantastic in winter (better than my main vehicle). It also leaks from the gas tank if over 1/3rd full, and on muggy days smells like a feedlot. It is a serviceable work truck on a farm. It doesn't make it good for anything beyond that! Like most of our recently departed Twins, it wasn't that he was "the problem", but he surely wasn't "the answer".

    Yep... DH only, and no signs of improvement. Simply toooooo slow to ever make that fabled arm anything but an pink elephant! But at least his instincts are better than.... Julien.
