Twins Minor League Hitter of the Month - May 2023
FlyingFinn replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Nice to see Camargo doing so well after a very slow start. It's kind of amazing, with all the Twins injuries, we haven't yet needed a third catcher.- 4 replies

Schobel is really doing well lately. We may yet see this promotion by July - Ortega to Cedar Rapids, Schobel to Wichita, Severino to St. Paul.

The front office is tying Rocco's hands by making him work with such a short bench. AJ Pierzynski said having 1 player on the bench last night is unheard of. Lopez has one bad thing happen to him and then every pitch is missing the catchers target by 3 feet. He's really going to hurt someone if he keeps this up.

Yes, we should play Buxton in CF. If he's not healthy enough to play there, let's put him on the IL and get him healthy enough. He's also blocking some of our good hitters who struggle in the field from playing - Wallner (who is on one of his hot streaks), Julien, and Miranda (who has 5 or 6 hits in his last three games and may be turning things around). Right now, it feels like we have MAT in CF and MAT at DH. Buxton's slump is probably due to injury so let him get healthy and get another healthy bat in the lineup.
-
Fajardo and Kiersey are really playing well in the Wichita OF. Does St. Paul have room for them to move up in July? Not if you have Wallner in RF, Celestino back in CF and Larnach coming down and playing LF.

Roster Crunch? Who stays, who goes?
FlyingFinn replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
If Correa and Buxton would both end up on the IL, who is coming up? Miranda for Correa as Lewis can't play every day. Wallner or Julien for Buxton? Wallner is so hot, bring him up. DH would also be open for Miranda and Wallner now. -
Roster Crunch? Who stays, who goes?

You thinking DeLeon moves to the long man role? Then, if we have a short start, do the Twins DFA him to try send him back to St. Paul if he pitches 4-5 innings and we need a new long man? -
Twins Daily Hitter of the Month - May 2023
FlyingFinn replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Castro is who we always wanted Gordon to be. SSS so this may not continue. What will continue is that Castro steals bases much better and has a stronger arm that plays as a backup at SS and 3B.- 25 replies

Two games in a row. If we have double-header due to a rainout, we may see him. He also has an opt out in his contract so him pitching well lately could make him take that chance that some MLB team wants him now.

Very nice game by Solano. Julien will be a great OBP guy and hitter but I'm just not seeing him ever being better than a bad fielder. Sure wish we had a DH spot open for him.

Blayne Enlow is Out to Prove He Belongs
FlyingFinn replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Cole Sands pitched 80 innings at Wichita in 2021 with a 2.46 ERA. His and Varland's careers have gone in different directions since then. Varland is a starter and Sands is in the mop up role (good numbers in that role this year but his pitching hasn't been good overall since 2021). Is it all about Varland increasing his velocity and Sands not since Wichita? -
Wallner goes on these hot streaks. The Twins should have rode this hot streak until he didn't hit for a couple games.

If not for an error that inning, his performance is 2 runs over 5 innings. Like someone said, snowballed after that. Has to learn to overcome those errors though.

Nice job from both our ex-Twins and rehabbing Twins. Great to see Miranda have some success.

Twins 26/40-man Roster Moves/Transactions Thread - 2023
FlyingFinn replied to Danchat's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Waivers. I believe he's been through this 3 or 4 times with the Twins in his career and never been claimed. -
Congrats to Zebby Matthews on an early promotion. Miller with a very good ending to his week. Jorel Ortega - I just noticed that he has 11 SB's to go with his great hitting this year. He really deserves to move up a level. I wonder if they will push Schobel to Wichita to make room, when Brooks Lee moves to the Saints. Cardenas seems to be in line for a promotion to Wichita and Winkel (Isola almost never catches anyway and really shouldn't be listed as a catcher on the roster).

He's holding down SS until Brooks Lee arrives in July. Lewis would be there but he obviously is going to be playing 3B for the Twins this year.

Yes, someone please answer this. It's been asked for weeks now. He seems to be on a 3 inning limit no matter how many pitches he throws. 40 pitches! How can he not come out for the 4th inning. If he gets any better, he's going to get them out with 25 pitches in the 3 innings. Don't get this at all. Odd night for our pitchers. Saints once again use the 1 inning opener for Balazovic. Funderburk makes 2 throwing errors. Great pitching by Carr (who does every other game now) and Rozek (who needed a great game).

The Twins Were Wise to Pass on These 3 Sluggers
FlyingFinn replied to Lou Hennessy's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I wanted Abreu but was wrong. Of course, I would have played him at DH and Buxton in CF so if I knew that Buxton wouldn't play CF, I wouldn't have wanted him.- 18 replies

I'll take Emma Rodriguez as the player who will take off this year and we'll forget about this slow start.

2024. I love Brooks Lee but look at his #'s in May. I believe the batting average is below .200. He needs time in the minors.

Enlow and Nowlin with very good games. How long do you wait to move Enlow to St. Paul. We may see him with the Twins if he keeps this up. Some good relief performances from Bentley and Grace. Headrick with a bit of a clunker.

Very SSS but I listened to a couple games online in which Mack was catching this year. He was missing catching strike pitches and the announcers were saying he wasn't doing well defensively. After that, I thought Cossetti was sure to take his spot at some point this year.
