2 busts but picking 27th is not a guarantee with Sabato. Cavaco was one of the biggest mistakes this FO made. TBD - Miller was 36th and is still very young. Fringe MLB - Rooker, 23 career HR's so far. Trade chip - Petty for Gray looks good now as we got two years from Sonny. Would like to find out soon - Larnach and Wallner and I wish we would find out now, replacing Gallo and Kepler. Great picks - Lewis and Lee, the only top 12 picks. Double digit picks that make it to the majors do offset the Sabato, Cavaco and Rooker picks with Ober, Varland and Julien.

Emma Rodriguez - 2025. Very slow start this year, with some people saying he's not going to make it to MLB. Seems to me I've heard his defense may eventually be more suited for LF/RF but maybe Seth or someone more knowledgeable can shed some light. He will be on the 40 man though this winter.

Some good games from Enlow with the Saints, Lee with the Wind Surge, and E-rod, Miller and Urbina with the Kernels. All three of these Kernels have picked it up after slow starts while Rosario is slumping a little this week.

Roster Crunch? Who stays, who goes?
FlyingFinn replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Which is why many are saying, get rid of Gallo and Kepler and let's sink or swim with Larnach and Wallner (slight drop off defensively but, as reported elsewhere on TD, Kepler's defense is nothing special this year). -
Roster Crunch? Who stays, who goes?

Lewis and Kirilloff certainly can play LF. Rocco has said they want Lewis at 3B for the rest of the year (though a Correa injury could change that to SS). Polanco and Julien, no. Julien tried 3B and LF in the minors and the Twins have totally abandoned that thought. He is bad at 2B and worse at 3B and LF. With the Saints, Julien is not playing 1B so I don't think that is going to happen this year (and we do get worse at two positions defensively by taking Kirilloff from there). Buxton must hit as the DH or he is ultimately taking a good bat out of the lineup in Julien, when Polanco returns. -
E-Rod with a double, triple and homer. Very nice!

Cardenas would be more likely to move up than Cossetti. He has a .406 OBP and I believe his D is pretty good.

Williams is nothing more than an emergency catcher (only caught 3 games all this year). The Twins really don't want to carry 3 catchers on the 40 man roster long-term in 2023. That is why they keep signing vets to play in St. Paul and, as Blyleven said above, they signed another vet catcher as soon as Wolters got injured. I believe the Twins are liking Camargo more and more but he's actually playing too well (and is too young) to risk bringing him up short-term and then DFA'ing him. They want to put off this decision of adding him to the 40 man until this winter. My opinion is that they would bring up Kolavsvary if one of our catchers got hurt for a short period. If it was the rest of the year, then Camargo would be the choice.

Lewis continues to dominate, up one level. And Rosario seems to always have the early, key RBI's. He's not doing his damage in garbage time. Both very impressive this year. Time to make room for Kiersey in St. Paul (and for Rosario to move up). Get rid of Kepler, call up Wallner or Larnach and give Kiersey their spot with the Saints. Ortega gets the call to Cedar Rapids as everyone was predicting.

I'm thinking Headrick is headed back down to St. Paul after this performance. Is it for Maeda or do we need another pitcher for a couple days as our starters appear to be stressed out knowing they can't allow a run or they are losing.

Jorel Ortega called up to Cedar Rapids as many predicted. Schobel not going up to Wichita, at least not yet. Cavaco, a complete bust, goes to the development list. Maybe Ortega plays 1B for awhile.

Good to see some of our prospects who have had poor seasons have a great week. If those young guys at Cedar Rapids keep it up like this, that will be a dominant team........and they already won the first half of the league. And Regi Grace is really having a dominant season in the bullpen at two levels this season. Maybe he moves another level and makes the Twins consider putting him on the 40 man roster this winter.

Not really much different than the rest of the games for the Saints this month as they are averaging more than 7.5 runs/game.

If MAT is really injured and ends up on the IL from yesterday's HBP, who do the Twins bring up, Celestino or Stevenson (of note is that Buxton couldn't even make it out to CF for the 9th inning yesterday in an emergency situation as we inserted a pitcher into the batting lineup, losing our DH) . I'm thinking the callup has to be able to play a decent CF. The 40 man roster may dictate the move even though Stevenson looks much more ready to help out right now.

It also shows that the Twins are deeper. The problem really is the guys we pay high dollars to are not performing to their level.

The Twins Found Their Next Draft Gem
FlyingFinn replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I know people have a bias against picking A ball players for the Twins minor league pitcher of the year but Lewis would be my choice so far. And Zebby Matthews a close 2nd as he only had that one terrible game after getting moved up to High A. Great article Ted.- 13 replies

Our minor league teams have been winning a lot this week and then all of them lose yesterday. Seems like every week we have a clean sweep of the other teams and also a day when we get swept. Kind of odd. Enlow with a good three innings and then "welcome to AAA!" Let's see how he adjusts next week.

Our DH's were very productive and the team was scoring 4+ runs every game at the end of last week and beginning of this week. Now the team can't score much again...............what changed? Just saying.

Maeda seemed to have 4 really good innings and then started the 5th 1B, BB, BB. Maybe he ran out of gas building back up?? The Saints look good to me. Larnach, Wallner, Williams all over .950 OPS. Miranda back from the dead when he was batting .129. 39-27 record. This is a year to be watching the Saints.

Congrats to Cedar Rapids. Kind of amazing with seemingly half of the lineup hitting near the Mendoza line. They are top 3 in the league in ERA but, amazingly to me, they are also in the top half of most of the offensive stats as well. Zebby Matthews bounces back from a bad game and pitches great. I'm beginning to think their manager, Brian Dinkelman, is really good. His teams win every year.

With approval of the MLB Commissioner, a player on a minor league Domestic Reserve List can be placed on the Development List if the player is at the parent organization's Minor League Spring Training Complex or at a club-approved training facility for the purpose(s) of development and/or conditioning. NOTE: As part of his development and/or conditioning, a player on the Development List can remain with his minor league club and take batting practice, fielding practice, throw bullpen side sessions, and/or serve as a bullpen catcher, batting practice pitcher, or base coach. Rosario is amazing this year. Clubbed a two run homer early. Then, the other teams pitchers got scared of him, walking him three times. When they start doing that, maybe it's time to move up one level.

They would find a spot for him and DFA him when the regular catchers are healthy and a spot is needed on the 40 man. They did that with Godoy and other veteran catchers last year.

I disagree because Wolters will simply be DFA'd when our catchers are healthy and probably get to go back to St. Paul. Camargo is playing well enough that the Twins may not want to DFA him as someone else may claim him. This is all about the 40 man roster. Camargo is better but is actually too good and young IMO. The odd reality of the roster games all teams have to play.
