  1. Had to be used so much that the nagging injuries he played through took a tole on his speed.
  2. Sprint speed is terrible and we are also so slow on defense, greatly affecting our pitchers IMO.
  3. Very SSS but Rodriguez has been a good clutch hitter. In 2023, he hit walk off homer in spring training (hey, it was against the Yankees!) and hit the game winning homer IIRC in the playoffs in Wichita's title clinching game. Sometimes, certain players just have that "clutch" gene.
  4. I think Jenkins will be 2026. If E-Rod is healthy, he definitely gets the call in 2025. Keaschall will be ready if Julien and others flop in 2025. I believe all three are good defensively and the Twins need more of that.
  5. The "5th inning problem" is really the result of the Twins holding down his 2024 innings (and thus the pitch count) along with Festa being a rookie. Next year, he will throw more pitches per game as the season goes on, be allowed to work out of 5th inning jams (rather than having the 2024 Twins bullpen allowing his runners to score) and have more confidence as well.
  6. Lee at 3B, Correa at SS, Jeffers at C, Buxton in CF and Wallner in RF is where I start with Castro as the 10th man playing almost every day anyway. As others have said, figure out where Lewis should be. He may actually be an improvement to our defense at either 2B or LF and be better than others on the roster at 1B (over time at least).
  7. Helman is about the same as Keirsey in CF IMO. Those two are similar in a lot of ways other than - Keirsey lh vs Helman rh, Helman injured more, Helman is a legit super utility (at AAA at least).
  8. But Baltimore changed his arm angle IIRC and apparently that fixed his wildness. Why couldn't we try that? (there's always the possibility that Cano refused I guess). Yes, I would like another Alcala or Sands in the bullpen. No, no team will. With his injury history and age, he won't get much. The Twins need a left-hander in the pen and I think he would be a good pitcher to try if he doesn't cost much. He's good when healthy and I would gamble on him. Hoffman had a very good spring training with the Twins and many of us were surprised the Twins let him go. Yes, I'm not confident in Winder. I'm just looking for cheap, back end bullpen guys (all of these guys were cheap when the Twins let them go). I don't think we can afford a $7M Paddack or $3M Thielbar in the back of the pen. The guys I mentioned probably are too expensive now. My belief is the Twins make a higher % of mistakes in who is selected for the backend of the pen than many other teams. People always complain that the Twins are dumpster diving. Sometimes the FO found a gem in the dumpster and our staff doesn't realize it or can't make the adjustment to turn them into a gem. Certainly debatable.
  9. My biggest problems with the Jackson's and Okert's is that we had some good pitchers in AAA or spring training and made an incorrect evaluation of their ability (Cano and Coulumbe with the Orioles, Hoffman with the Phillies, Hamilton with the Yankees).
  10. You watch some of his games I think. My impression is that he is all or nothing. If he's on, he seems unhittable. Some games it lasts the whole game. Others, he hits a rough inning and implodes. Sometimes the implosion happens in the 1st inning. I believe control is his problem. He must have to adjust to throw strikes some days/innings but then seems to get hammered. That last part concerns me. My impressions are from box scores and TD comments. What have you seen? I don't have him on the 40 man this winter. Do you?
  11. No. Helman and Castro are comps (super utility). Martin is not (utility). Martin will not play RF, SS or 3B with the Twins unless it's an absolute emergency. Helman and Castro can play those positions and are better than Martin at 2B, LF and CF. Also, Helman and Castro have some power in their bat. Martin doesn't have much power. Castro has the switch hitter advantage and durability advantages among other advantages over both. He only has $6.2 million disadvantages!
  12. I would include CF as well. He's played there a lot more than LF and RF in the last couple years. I'm thinking he's closer to Keirsey on defense in CF than Castro and Martin, who I don't like to see in CF for an extended period of time.
  13. If we have to get rid of Castro for payroll reasons and go cheap, I think there is only one cheap replacement in the organization, Michael Helman (not Martin). He does everything Castro does, offensively and defensively. But there are two problems - he has done everything at AAA and not in MLB. Also, he seems to be injury prone. And I'm a Helman fan. It would be a big risk to go this route but it's a possibility.
  14. There's probably not a stat for 3rd base coaches but I would be really curious how often they wrongly sent runners home or stopped runners at 3rd (harder to judge). And does it affect the above #'s?
  15. Agree with a lot of what you wrote but Ohl has zero chance of getting on the 40 man roster this winter and won't be drafted in the Rule 5 draft.
  16. Raya is the only one who will be added to the 40 man IMO. I had MacLeod earlier but his fastball is topping out near 90 mph so I don't think other teams will pick him in the draft even though he's a LH starter.
  17. To answer the question of the article, you are absolutely correct. Canterino and Lewis are interesting. If either is great and healthy, they could jump to the Twins and accumulate enough time, that they graduate before the top 100 sites get to move them up into that list (I actually forget how fast someone can graduate). I agree with some above, Soto's stuff at the end of the year should really impress people about his potential and he would also be my choice to be the next one (after Morris) to hit a top 100 list.
  18. Is having Vazquez and Jeffers a luxury the Twins can't afford? If yes, that's the only way I see one traded. Alternating catchers almost every game sure has worked in keeping them healthy. You would think they would be more fresh and produce more in September because of it. That wasn't the case.
  19. I was surprised how well the Twins played in July, after Correa got hurt. And then I was surprised how they collapsed in late August and all of September. Maybe it averaged out and Correa's injury made us a mediocre team. It really shows how Correa being injured creates a domino effect. Castro is stretched into being a SS. Castro is then missed as super utility or at a position he is better at. Then, maybe a Margot is forced to play against a rh in the OF. And on and on we go. Correa is so important on both defense and offense.
  20. Not happy he hid his injury. But would you get rid of Joe Ryan, who did the exact same thing in 2023?
  21. For $1.8 million you don't get rid of him unless you're sure he's never going to be good, when you don't have a clear first baseman. Last chance though, as others have said.
  22. What a great group of starting pitchers. Matthews probably should get minor league pitcher of the year for all of baseball. MacLeod - will the velocity likely increase as he gets further from surgery? I have him added to the 40 man roster. But if he's topping out at 90 mph, not sure that plays in MLB these days.
  23. I'm a big fan of both Festa and Matthews. They pitched for the Twins in the 2nd half of the year, when our defense was one of the worst in baseball (mostly without Buxton and Correa). I think that had some effect on their numbers. Both will be counted on a lot for the Twins in 2025.
  24. Last year, most everyone complained that our batters strike out too much. Miranda is certainly one who doesn't K much. He puts the bat on the ball. But, for him, that means he is making poor contact on balls that are pitchers pitches. On top of that, he's very slow and it can result in a lot of double plays. Very talented though. If he could tighten up that strike zone and swing at good pitches to hit, he's excellent. If he's playing 1B, you really want a few more HR's. But maybe his injury stopped those in the 2nd half. Defense isn't going to be good and there will be times that we say, "Santana would have made that play." As others have said, it looks like 1B is his for the taking next year.
  25. Always appreciate this. Thanks! Looking at the past two years, Cardenas and Cossetti's hitting fell off a cliff this year. Chris Williams looks to be permanently stuck at AAA. Prato didn't play half the time at AAA this year. Severino, still found it interesting that Diego Castillo was called up instead of him. Defensively, the OF's this year look really good. Expecting to see Jenkins, E-Rod, Keaschall, and Winokur with the Twins in the next few years. I want to see more of everyone else before I jump on their "MLB bandwagon."
