  1. Looking at the Fort Myers box score, I'm wondering if this has ever happened in baseball before, 3 players with the same name - Pena, Pena and Pena. And two of them hit homers.
  2. Some good pitching performances from Bengard, Soto and Raya. Working out of jams is something you had better be good it. Listened a little bit to the Saints radio broadcast. The announcer said Funderburk and Blewett are going to be throwing multiple innings in preparation for doing that with the Twins. Funderburk was great, Blewett was terrible.
  3. I think you are first person who thinks Winokur is overrated. Not sure he will make it at SS but he keeps moving up my ratings, ahead of Bengard and De Andrade.
  4. Great question - injured... or forgot to put on the list??? That OF should hit. The infielders are mostly in the category of "hit this year" or you are a career minor leaguer. Schobel, Rucker and Ross are repeating AA. Cespedas and Ortega are older than average for AA. Important year for the catchers as well. Cardenas and Cossetti looked great coming into last year and through April and then flopped. Hope one of them masters AA pitchers. And Olivar is a major leaguer if he's a catcher but there's serious doubt about his defense at that position. Pitchers don't look great other than Nowlin and Prielipp, unless the guys @Rigby listed are actually on the roster.
  5. That really confuses me. Culpepper and DeAndrade should be at SS almost every day IMO. DeAndrade's bat must not be improving and thus he is repeating Cedar Rapids. He's in danger of being Noah Miller but not quite as good on D, maybe only a hair better at the plate.
  6. This is exactly how both sides of the collective bargaining agreement knew it was going to happen as the rules limit the guys on the 40 man roster and the amount of times they can move between AAA and the majors.
  7. Lots of great news, especially E Rod playing. I'm sure they are going to limit Festa and Matthews pitches, only to make sure they are ready to go the entire year, including time with the Twins. One scary thing in the lineup but it didn't affect anything last night - Severino in RF. Inexperienced out there and probably the slowest right-fielder in AAA.
  8. Dobnak didn't beat them out. He's just with the Twins for mopup duty, a spot on the roster that is often not filled by the best available player. After his first extended outing, he will get DFA'd, nobody will take on his contract and he will be back with the Saints.
  9. I believe the best players on defense are E Rod, Keaschall and Holland. If none can play on D this weekend, that could hurt the team, and the pitching #'s.
  10. That Wichita roster is going to be good as well. Lewis, Culpepper, MacLeod, Nowlin for pitching. Jenkins, Rosario, Schobel, Oliver on the hitting side.
  11. The Wichita roster list is old. They don't update it until they have the roster finalized. Nowlin will be there.
  12. If I'm looking up the right stats, the Twins have had a winning record (by at least 3 more wins than losses) at the end of April the past 3 years (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Thus, no, spring training records aren't worth anything and it doesn't matter.
  13. Dobnak will succeed at his role. His role is to come in during mop up duty and eat up all or most of the rest of the game. He may throw 100 pitches but he will do his job. May not be great for his arm but he's not a spring chicken anymore and has done this before. Castellano sometimes has control problems. He may get in the first inning and not have any control. After 40 pitches in 1 inning with a young guy, your pulling him. You can't ruin his arm. Then, you end up using too many guys in the pen that you wanted to save for the next days game. Dobnak will do his job when called upon. If he's lucky, there's no mop up duty games and gets a front row seat in the big leagues for a longer period of time.
  14. Hello Brooks Lee. You are our third baseman. Welcome to the team Eddie Julien. You are not going to St. Paul.
  15. 61 games at SS, 10 at 3B, 20 in CF, and 2 in RF in 2024. OF isn't bogus but they are giving him a shot at SS.
  16. Better than DeAndrade? Of course, he didn't play much due to injury.
  17. Somehow, I don't think you meant Vazquez :)
  18. Castellano still needs more injuries not to get sent back to Philly (Philly is unwilling to trade him for anything reasonable). I don't keep him unless he really shows greatness in spring training. I'm just looking at box scores so someone tell me if watching him is different.
  19. I think the answer to your question is yes, it is both a smart depth play and a missed trade opportunity. The Twins have either made some bad trades or traded for some pitchers who unluckily got injured (some would say it was predictable). I think that, and wanting to have this depth, has led to standing pat. The best move would be to accurately predict who is going to be a AAAA pitcher and who is going to be a major leaguer and trade the AAAA guys now. MUCH easier said than done.
  20. Remember he only has to be on the active roster for a certain amount of time, is it two months (someone can correct me)? Then, if we want to still keep him but bring someone else up, I'm sure he will get "injured."
  21. Joey Gallo to the White Sox on a minor league deal.
  22. I don't think Castro gets traded now. Helman was the cheap version of Castro who could play every position except catcher. Nobody else in the upper parts of the organization does that besides these two.
  23. It should have been Brooks Lee this year. The Twins got desperate and had to bring him up, even with his bad back. I'm on board with giving Emma Rodriguez a shot right out of the gate.
  24. Brian Dinkleman - sure hoping he got promoted to Wichita. I thought he was our best manager in minor league baseball.
