Can't do that unless you never want to see Alcala again. Another team will gladly take Alcala. He's got the stuff and thus somebody will stash him on the back end of the roster until he figures it out.

McCaughan is pitching so well that we may not be able to DFA him again if the Twins call him up. Oddly, this makes it harder to call him back up to the big leagues.

A couple more good starts, this time by Morris and Langenberg. And Gasper, he just has to make you laugh. Two HR's already with the Saints and it didn't look he could get the ball near the fence with the Twins.

Zebby is ready when needed. Emma Rodriguez will be ready. Give him time. There is no comparison between him and McCusker - he plays a premium position well, he's faster on the bases, and he will hit good (the one tool McCusker does have a chance to do well). The only question has been health, so far so good this year.

Matthews 80 pitches didn't get him through 4 innings so probably not his best outing, but not bad. Seems like many on TD don't like DeBarge but he keeps producing. Big clutch walk off HR last night. SSS but Questad seems to be dominating this year.

That hamstring is going to take far more than 7 days. The 7 day IL doesn't mean they come back after a short period of time.

Not yet, at least nobody is saying it. The Twins usually hold down the young pitchers in AAA whom they think they will call up as they want them to able to pitch in September. They held Festa to 50-70 pitches per game until April 30 last year and then let him go further. Matthew pitched 57, 80, and 71 so far this year so............ Having said that, the Twins have always held Raya back more. Besides an injury, the medical staff must be saying this is needed. They are treating him like the injury-prone Ober in the minors (and that worked out). For high quality young guys, even after the team figures out they are relievers, it's much easier to control the pitcher usage by starting them (if the game is cut short due to weather, they still pitch; they face the top of the order more and get tested against the best guys, very controlled warming up before the 1st pitch, etc.). Unless the Twins are out of contention, Raya isn't going to be a starter for the Twins, this year.

Jay Thomason - 3 HR's in one week in the Florida State League. That's impressive. When is the last time that has happened for Fort Myers? 17th round pick. Any chance of being a diamond in the rough? I'm guessing probably a one-week wonder or it's just way too early to tell.

I'll be the lone ranger here (almost), I think the Twins can turn this around. Everything begins with starting pitching - between Lopez, Ober, Ryan, Paddack, SWR, Festa and Matthews, we start getting 6 quality innings every day from 5 of them. The bullpen can be really good (Jax is the main problem and he will be good for most of the year). Buxton certainly looks the old Buxton and he stays healthy (okay, okay, so that's my weakest point thus far). We do have a great defense with Bader/Buxton/Wallner in the OF (I know Larnach will be out there some because Bader is already slipping back to his historic hitting #'s and we have Kiersey for late innings) and Lewis, Correa, Lee, Keaschall, France (some combination) in the IF and Jeffers/Vazquez at C. We just have to score enough runs. All of the above, especially the starting pitching, means this team can actually go on long winning streaks. Other teams have turned things around with this formula. Thus far, we haven't and we look like the Fort Myers defense, like we are the Bad News Bears.

Lots of great pitching up and down the minors. Great to see Prielipp throw well again. Darren Bowen was a hard thrower whose stats didn't look good last year. Now, he's got great #'s. Has he turned the corner? Do we have another good pitcher here? SSS I know.

And last year everyone complained that Julien has to swing at strikes. Sometimes players can't win.

I read the above on Fort Myers and @Dman is exactly right. These guys are the bad news bears. Hard to evaluate pitchers unless you're watching. Doktocyck just didn't let them touch the ball most of the time, striking out 10. When they did touch the ball, disaster! Amick doesn't belong in Cedar Rapids. He needs to be challenged more as the pitching seems similar to what he faced in college.

McCusker vs. Severino. Is there a difference? The one main tool they have is power. Not sure either can consistently hit .300 even though they show flashes of it at times. Defense is lacking or is McCusker good enough to play an average corner OF in MLB? Speed isn't great (is McCusker a little faster?). The Twins clearly don't have any plan to bring Severino up to the majors unless there is a slew of major injuries (or they plan to DFA him within a couple weeks to send him back down like they've done with Blewett, McCaughan, etc.). I'm curious what people who watch rather than read box scores think. I'm really wondering if McCusker has any chance of being a Wallner rather than a Severino. @tony&rodney @Seth Stohs what do you think?

Why is Yunior Severino getting no love?
FlyingFinn commented on Chris Hove's blog entry in Chris's Twins Blog
Severino was a free agent this winter, not even Rule 5. Any team could have picked him up. I believe Severino thought there was a path to MLB with the Twins at 1B. Thus far, France has closed that door. -
I did listen to the Kernels game while Soto was pitching. According to the announcer, there were a couple of his hits that the defense should have had including one Hess butchered into a triple. Also, Soto threw 80 pitches, which is the most he has ever thrown. One other note - on a single to left with a runner on 2nd, that runner stopped at 3rd. Gonzalez airmailed the throw to home allowing the runner to go to 2nd. The announcer wasn't too happy with Gonzalez decision, or lack there of.

Who Replaces Wallner As He Goes to the IL?
FlyingFinn commented on LA Vikes Fan's blog entry in LA Vikes Fan
Highly doubt he will play the OF. Still recovering from surgery last year and just this week played his first full game at 2B (not one play in the OF this year). Lots of DH and 2B. -
Three Up, Three Down: Fast Start Preferred
FlyingFinn replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Great article Seth! Very excited about Questad's start to the season. Schobel would have to continue this all year and maybe last year was an isolated bad year. Rosario and Gonzalez, I'm just not excited about. Their bats are inconsistent (Gonzalez more than Rosario) and I don't think they are very good on D or have much speed. De Andrade - I love great gloves at SS who can hit at all. If he's not even playing SS now, I drop him from my top 10 last year to not even ranked now. He's the one I'm most disappointed in. Rodriguez is really young yet so give him time.- 15 replies

Twins Calling up Top 100 Prospect Luke Keaschall
FlyingFinn replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Very excited and very interested to see how much 2B he played. It was only this week that he played a full game there. Buxton being able to play CF instead of clogging up the DH spot sure helps. -

Some of our top pitchers had an off night - Morris, Lewis, and Bengard. But the poor Bradenton team in low A got to face two AA pitchers and an MLBer. And they pitched like that.
