  1. I think the time has come to take it down the studs and start building back up. I just can't trust Falvey to do it.
  2. 'if they could find the next Brandt Alyea that would be fun. For those who dont know he played with the new Washington Senators 1965, 1968 & '69 With the Twins in 1970 he started the season on a red hot tear cooled for awhile and bounced back later in the year. He hit .291 with 16 homers, 61 RBI. It was a flash in the pan as he hit .171 in 1971. He was fun as you knew he could make something happen, We could use a one year find like that. He played mostly Left Field. 1970 was his career year. Clemens with a higher average, obp, slg.
  3. Lets see how spring training goes. If he remembers to hold pitchers fielding practice that would be a step ahead of last spring.
  4. Twins are already having a tough time filling all their radio and tv ad spots. On TV instead of an ad break its a conversation with someone in the dugout, Audra talking with someone in the crowd or a warning track walk with a player. This happens at least twice per broadcast. On radio it is the same as there are usually at least two breaks where they don't play ads. Good Luck with that next year.
  5. Was at Sunday's game. It was fun to see Ryan on his game and the offense playing well.
  6. Let him trade the players who are on expiring contracts. Prospects are just that prospects. If you are trading pitchers like Ryan, Duran and Jax you need to get back major league players who are good players. If not keep what we have.
  7. Old enough to remember four man rotations from 1960's and early to mid 1970's. Worked great then. But of course the four starters were capable of throwing 260 to 300 plus innings in a season. Most teams then also had a fill-in starter/long relief pitcher. Jim Perry filled the role for the Twins in mid 1960's. Twins are already down two starters this year and maybe three if Ober has an injury. If they could find the arms to try it might not be a bad season to try it. If they don't start beating the good teams soon it may not matter.
  8. I remember when Bert Blyleven came in 1970 at the age of 19. His curveball was a thing of beauty. As was Johan Santana's change up. I believe the rotation is the strength of the team. Bullpen has a few real good pieces but have been over used. Need to hit. its getting better but needs to be a lot better. You watch the games and it doesn't matter who the Twins are playing both teams have too man guys hitting .200 or lower. In 60 some years of being a fan of the game it amazes me how low the batting averages are through out baseball. Even in the year of the pitcher 1968 batters were hitting .260, .270 or so. If the current Twins could get five guys hitting .260 or better it might help.
  9. The difference between Calvin and the Pohlad's is Calvin Griffiths only business was baseball. Before free agency and the explosion of salaries he had some very good Twins teams and players. The Pohlad's have way more money. Carl Pohlad spent some money. After he was gone it has gone the other way. Bostock was a very good player but not enough for the Twins Hall of Fame. But down the road who knows.
  10. Great article. Agree with all or most of it. Joe Ryan had a rough day yesterday it happens to all pitchers in the course of the season. The starting pitching for the most has been decent. The bullpen has been over worked and not much help for it in the minor leagues. The Twins have 3 games with the White Sox coming up. If they get swept or only win one game Rocco needs to go. I have been a Twins fan since the beginning I was five years old when they came to Minnesota in 1961. The way things are going they may very well make some of the teams in the early 80's seem better. I still follow them because 64 years of following them. Something needs to happen. Fire at six of the 12 coaches don't need that many. I see they signed some guys to minor league contracts last week. Players who have been released by other teams. Can hardly wait to see them (not(.
  11. There is never a good or bad time to fire a manager. But I agree with earlier posts Rocco needs to go. The Twins have played listless baseball since the second half of last season. And at other times, too. They need a change badly. Attendance is down most days it seems players are going through the motions. They need a new manager who knows the game on the field and when and when not to make a move. Pohlad's want to sell the team. It's going to be hard with the way they are playing and low attendance, Make a move at manager. More than Miranda deserve to be sent out.
  12. I was 5 in 1961 but watched Twins games and the game of the week on TV with my mom and dad.
  13. A Twins fan since the beginning in 1961. This season hurt but we all saw it coming as they started struggling in mid-August. It was like watching a train wreck in slow motion. The first Twins heartbreak for me was 1967 when they went to Boston for the last two games of the season. They had to win one of two to make it to the World Series and lost both. Calvin Griffith whe he owned the team was never afraid of making manager changes. Sam Mele replaced Cookie Lavagetto early in '61. Mele got the Twins to World Series in 1965. He was replaced fairly early in 1967 by Cal Ermer. Several others came after that. The worst Twins baseball was the years after Rod Carew was traded to the Angels and again in the mid 1990's.. In 1984 the young guys Hrbek, Gaetti, etc were coming of age. There have always been ups and downs with the Twins. But this year we saw coming starting in Mid-August and then early September. I hope some players are found and I will be back in 2025.
  14. I wouldn't mind seeing coaching changes.
  15. Willi makes all the injuries the Twins have suffered the past two seasons be not nearly as bad as they would be if he wasn't there. Extend him.
  16. We all know a good starter and reliever would be a big plus. Just not sure Falvine will pull the trigger on big trade.
  17. Cesar Tovar played all 9 positions. I don't think Zoilo ever did.
  18. A college professor is working on a long-term scientific experiment when a baseball comes through the window, destroying all of his glassware and spilling the fluids that the flasks and test tubes contained. The pooled fluids combine to form the chemical "methylethylpropylbutyl," which then covers a large portion of the baseball. The professor soon discovers that the fluid, along with any object with which it makes contact, is repelled by wood (cf. Alexander Fleming's serendipitous discovery of penicillin). Suddenly, he realizes the possibilities and takes a leave of absence to go to St. Louis to pitch in the big leagues, where he becomes a star and propels his team to the World Series.
  19. I see the following retained: Arraez Buxton (Hopefully signs an extension. If not trade him.) Polanco Gordon Sano (Hopefully we see a full year like the second half of this year) Jeffers Kirilloff Larnach Donaldson Kepler (could be packaged with Garver and prospects for a decent pitching up grade) Garver (see above) Miranda Celestino Possibly 2 out of Refsnyder, Rooker and Garlick. No Cave we have enough younger outfielders.
