  1. Us humans are funny, we focus on complete outlier outcomes and ignore what happens 90% of the time.
  2. I don’t think it’s that complicated. He’s as good as his location. He struggled with it in the minors and has improved in the bigs which is an accomplishment but it is still not a strength. There are few pitches nasty enough to be successful if not properly located. If he can’t take the next step his ceiling is back of the rotation guy which ain’t bad.
  3. Agree that Falvey isn’t going anywhere until the Pohlads sell. As far as figuring out who to blame I have no issue with that. It’s 80% Front Office and 20% Rocco simply because they impact every aspect of the organization including who the players end up being that the manager manages.
  4. For me it has to be a package deal - one goes they all go.
  5. The Twins are currently 7-15. No reason to panic as there is a bunch of the season to go. However the math is not looking good. With 140 games to go the Twins will have to go 74-66 the rest of the way just to get to .500. Let’s say it takes 87 wins to make the playoffs. The Twins will have to go 77-63 the rest of the way to get there. Is that impossible? Nope. Is it likely? Nope, not unless they pull off a white hot streak where they win 10 in a row or something similar. Currently their offense is so frequently bad that winning streaks are not likely despite good starting pitching. And that would also assume they start winning right now with no more extended losing streaks. Hence the old adage: you can’t win a pennant in April but you can lose one.
  6. Keaschall has a nice compact swing with a direct bat to ball swing path. Notably, no other Twins hitter uses that type of swing, hmmmmm….. Anybody notice the early strikouts looking on fastballs right down the middle? I am convinced that is the analytics / scouting report telling those guys this guy is going to throw you a slider with two strikes. So they look for that and are willing to go sit down if it’s something different. I just categorically disagree with this approach. Our organizational hitting philosophy has turned most of our hitters into guess hitters.
  7. I like the opener - we get to find out what our deficit will be in the first inning instead of the sixth.
  8. I do not remember him. The Cuban connection to the Twins is so interesting. I wonder if anyone has ever done an in depth piece on that.
  9. We should all strive for higher standards.
  10. Sim is not Cy Young but the guy competes. He is always going to have baserunners because his stuff isnt that good but he will always stick in there. Love to have him as my 5th starter for the next 5 years.
  11. I really dislike dugout interviews. The next time something enlightening is said will be the first time.
  12. So Topa gives up his run in the first instead of the 6th. Brilliant.
  13. Chief has it or is it Scott Leues (sp)?
  14. Questeds start is encouraging. The rest of the list doesn’t excite me much. Rosario and Gonzalez have a similar challenge - they have to hit at a very high level as they are challenged defensively. Actually Gonzalez is essentially a DH as he is borderline unusable in the field. I guess we know how the Twins view DeAndrade as he is fourth in line for SS reps in A ball.
  15. I try not to get too excited about any prospect but Hill is someone that is exciting for sure. Three good pitches plus command at his age is special- being a lefty doesn’t hurt either. Will be interesting to see what his development path is - I’m guessing they take it easy with him this year and next.
  16. I think the biggest concern is a similarity: they both k at a very high rate in the minors. That doesn’t portend well for success in the big leagues and likely the reason neither have or will get a shot in the bigs.
  17. Correct. High level D1 ball is pretty close to high A. Always important to remember when older college guys do well in A ball - it’s not much of a jump. AA is usually the first real test for this type of player and usually a place you start seeing guys failing hard.
  18. His command is off - the stuff is still there. He will get it back but it might take a couple outings. You have to send him out there as we need him if we are going to have a chance. He doesn’t get out of this rut sitting in the bullpen.
  19. Yep. I wanted Varland to go two innings but even then Jax would still pitch. He had a stretch like this a couple years ago and then was one of the top relievers in baseball last year.
  20. Varland with 13 pitches. Let him go one more.
