    I believe crime rates have returned to pre riot rates. I also think Minneapolis now has lower than average crime rates than other major cities. The perception remains because people base their opinions on anecdotal stories. I understand that if a person isn’t comfortable it’s certainly justified to not go downtown.

    Yea I second or third this notion. Who thinks fans enjoy a constant din of senseless noise.

    Another great article. His career stats were not as good as I remember. He was kind of a poor man’s Greg Maddux with that great sinker that moved like crazy.

    Love the part about getting cassettes mailed to you. I also felt Herb Carneal was part of the fabric of my kid years. I shed a tear when he died.

    This is one of the things I dislike the most about interactions on TD. “Ok man research this and show it to me man!” If you are so worked up about something do your own research to prove it wrong. There is no obligation for anybody to research anything for anybody else. This is a site where people offer commentary about baseball. It’s not the Smithsonian.

    I think this should be emphasized. People associate all kinds of negative attributes to failing. Failing to drive in runs is not some sort of character flaw or moral defect. I’m sure every one of those players were trying hard probably too hard.

    I think most managerial decisions are close to coin flips - anywhere from 50-50 to 60-40. Even if you make the “correct “ decision and are on the right side of the odds tails is going to come up plenty. Additionally there is never perfect information. I don’t like when he yanks a pitcher that is doing well and then the next night the starter gets lit up in the fifth. As far as leadership goes we have no idea. TV sound bites and dugout shots don’t indicate anything about the way he interacts with his players which mostly happens behind closed doors. I can take him or leave him because he is doing what the FO wants and the next guy is going to do the same stuff. The part that he should be roundly criticized is that his teams make lots of basic mistakes and nothing seems to be done about it. At some point that is on him.

    I have a few thoughts on this article. First is that judging anything on social media is a terrible way to come to any conclusion. This club has made some pretty big mistakes over the years. I mean when you threaten to move the franchise and then volunteer for contraction it kind of sets the tone. The Twins have shown an ability to screw up basic PR situations that is unique to them. They have consistently shown over the years that the bottom line is their priority before winning. And as stated above baseball was nearly unwatchable until the pitch clock. Do I love the Twins? Been a fan of only this club for almost 60 years. I live out-state so only go to a handful of games but pay a ridiculous amount of money for DirectTV so I can watch them. My question would be do the Twins love Minnesotans?

    Anybody who has been around as long as Max will become familiar and valued. Max seems like a nice guy. However Max is the definition of average. Let him tip his cap from the dugout and move on.

    And to answer the original question I think I want most of it to change. I would keep Maki as he seems to have extracted some good pitching results from a shallow pool. Since I don’t believe anything will change while Falvey is here I guess that’s me saying he should go. He’s not horrible but some of the organizations philosophies that aren’t working are never going to change if he is here.

    I also think the farm is overrated. Not necessarily from a talent standpoint but from a readiness standpoint. You make several good points. I would widen it out to players arrive that are really weak in basic fundamentals. Literally stuff that used to be taught in Legion ball and certainly should be mastered by the big leagues is absent from our call ups.

    I don’t think anyone outside the organization actually knows. I am going to pen a post later about some of these subjects and I’m just going to identify the problem and not who I guess is responsible.

    As disappointing as this season has been where would we be without SWR. Looks like we have a solid back of the rotation guy for several years.

    That whole play was a living breathing example of poor fundamentals. First off Jeffers jabbed at the ball with the bat when anybody that has played baseball has been taught that a proper bunt is almost catching the ball on the bat. This makes it easier to deaden the ball and control the direction. Secondly he bunted it to the wrong side. With a man on second you want the third baseman to field that bunt. What the hell Santana was doing I don’t know. The ball popped so high in the air it was obviously going to be caught. Everyone makes mistakes but the Twins make fundamental mistakes nearly every game. It hasn’t improved and because it happens repeatedly I can only assume it’s not a priority with the coaching staff. I bet the Twins have lost 6-8 games this year due to this.

    I suspect payroll constraints will take care of weeding out some vets. The tough part is that none of the young guys showed enough to really count on them next year and we won’t pay the vets. Rock and a hard place.

    Yea I was going to post this assuming modern baseball does it the same way. The runners job is to make sure the ball isn’t going to be fielded by the pitcher before he breaks. While the third base coach should be helping is Martins job and he failed. He is a very fundamentally unsound player.

    If the Twins thought they had a PR problem before they ain’t seen nothing yet. I’m sure their crack business ops group is up to the task 😀

    And that ladies and gentlemen is why we don’t bunt anymore. Jeffers with poor technique just jabbing at the ball. And Santana? Can’t even guess what he was thinking.

    It’s just not. The FO makes those decisions. All of them. Always has.

    And now the Manfred man gets to decide the season.

    You would think we could just run hard out of the box.

    I agree about DeAndrade. He seems to be the best real SS prospect the Twins have and they are going to need one in a couple years.
