  1. The day after the Ryan prognosis came out my son texted me the following: The Twins are in big trouble. I’d say he identified the beginning of the end pretty accurately.
  2. Again that we are talking about $7.5 million being too much is sad. If you really want to win next year you put him in the rotation and see what happens. I suspect he Twins will trade him for a lottery ticket to dump the salary.
  3. 2025 is going to be make or break for a whole bunch of people from the FO to the field.
  4. As I said I don’t disagree. I think the Twins are bungling this big time. I’m simply saying I’m really skeptical they will ever do anything based on some sort of obligation to the community.
  5. Castro to start the year and then adjust as needed. Hard pass on Keirsey - the guy isn’t gonna hit his hat size.
  6. I don’t disagree with you but they are under no contractual obligation in that regard. You would be expecting them to put community spirit ahead of the bottom line. I don’t like community spirits chances.
  7. This is where I’m at. These numbers are chicken feed in MLB. If you can’t pay a useful player like Castro $6 million just sell the team.
  8. I believe this is called an inconvenient truth. Similar to the “pitching pipeline”. I think people like the idea of a hip young analytics guy taking over for the crusty old out of date scout. At the end of the day it’s about making the correct decision as often as possible whether you are using the latest in analytics or a scouts eye or flipping a coin. Falvey has a thoroughly mediocre track record in this regard. And I completely disagree with the notion that he was so hamstrung by Ryan that he couldn’t have made some progress early on. We are going on year 9 and things look remarkably similar year over year when it comes to his performance. Some good some bad and a whole lot of mediocre.
  9. “Grading out as a plus arm in the outfield “. Apparently I was watching a Martin stunt double - he has an arm like a leg.
  10. I’ve never understood the division of duties or what his responsibilities specifically were so it’s hard to judge the situation. Lots of different job titles listed in the article.
  11. I guess I am echoing RB here but I think an equally big problem for MLB is the declining interest in baseball. My son is in his 20s and none of his friends have even the slightest interest in baseball. In my neighborhood there are a bunch of kids and they are nuts for soccer but not one of them plays Little League. I think MLB has taken a short term profit only view and lost too many fans. Especially when TV has been a problem and how hard it was to be interested in baseball before the pace of play rules. It was unwatchable.
  12. This is apples and oranges. They cut to $169 million! Twins fans would be doing backflips to have a $169 million payroll. The premise of this article is silly.
  13. I’m thinking about 2025 the lack of progress by our younger players really casts a doubt over next year. If one assumes they are not spending in free agency and that they are not bringing Santana back it looks like this to me regarding the lineup. Buxton and Correa are written in pen. So are Vázquez and Jeffers. Not because either is great they simply have nobody else. That 3 spots covered. Questionables Larnach Wallner Julien Lee Miranda Lewis Martin and Kiriloff. I have some optimism about Larnach and Wallner as the league has seen them made adjustments and they have adapted. The rest are total questions in my mind. This group has two other common denominators: they are all subpar or worse fielders. Lee will eventually be good I think. They all are subpar or worse baserunners. Martin has sufficient speed but lacks instincts and judgement. The rest are just sleds. Kind of speaks to the profile of player they are drawn to. So we need to fill 5 spots in the everyday lineup from that group. Anybody feeling good about the chances that we find 5 productive players out of that group of 8? I think Falvey is going to make a couple trades ( right handed hitting outfielder, good lefty reliever, slugging first baseman?) and he is going to have to connect on all of them. 2025 is shaping up to be a do or die year for all involved.
  14. Yea I think there is another level of understanding still out there regarding analytics. I don’t have the answer but perhaps is a combination of data and human judgement or maybe it’s a greater understanding about the analytics themselves.
  15. That takes care of the condescending part…..
  16. Unless the FO changes their hitting philosophies changes like this don’t matter much. They will find another guy to try and deliver the same message in a different way.
  17. I don’t get too excited about stuff like this. They will hire someone that will advocate for the same ideas since the overarching baseball philosophies come from the FO.
  18. They inherited a good young lineup that was the basis for success in 17 and 19. The bigger question is who cares? Falvine will be entering their 9th season. The statute of limitations on blaming Terry Ryan has long since expired.
  19. It’s crazy how inept the whole Pohlad family is at public relations. All of the quotes are basically saying “yea you fans should just mind your own business “.
  20. This does not inspire confidence nor help their poor PR problems.
  21. I don’t know who those people are. I don’t recall anybody endorsing Rocco. Some of us are saying it doesn’t matter as much as others think it does. And if he was fired they would hire someone to manage in the same manner.
  22. I think this is pretty accurate. I’ve read that the analytics department creates a report for each game that includes things like optimal lineups pitcher and hitter tendencies and on and on. How much Rocco has to follow that I obviously have no idea. The one thing I feel pretty certain about is the managers job in baseball has changed a lot. As I have stated I would prefer a manager whose teams play clean baseball but I don’t even know how much of that is on Rocco. Regarding the question asked above of citing a reason that Rocco should stay - I don’t have one.
  23. Yea this almost certainly means the FO is coming back.
  24. Dan Hayes is reporting that Rocco is returning for next year. Anybody have a thought on this?
  25. I believe crime rates have returned to pre riot rates. I also think Minneapolis now has lower than average crime rates than other major cities. The perception remains because people base their opinions on anecdotal stories. I understand that if a person isn’t comfortable it’s certainly justified to not go downtown.
