  1. Hard pass. No more mediocre vets. Either run it back or trade for an actual good player.
  2. I e been wondering about this as well. Perhaps it was the elbow injury. Perhaps he is another of Falveys all bat no glove players.
  3. Again these articles need to include specific age of player and arb years. I think the author is not including specific information (early thirties) because he knows it’s not a great idea but has to write something. There is no way the Twins should do this. They have him through his prime and can trade him or put the QO on him. Same thing with Ober but I’m sure we will see the same article soon.
  4. The lineup is not built to steal bases. I just want them to reduce the baserunning outs do to mental mistakes. The Twins don’t seem to care about that which confuses me. One of the first SABR concepts Bill James emphasized was outs are important - you only get 27. of course he was talking about hitting but it would certainly apply to baserunning. If you are a sled (which most of the Twins are) just play station to station baseball and don’t get thrown out.
  5. Pass. Adding a mediocre player to a mediocre lineup just sends up be mediocrity. If you decision is that you really need a right handed hitting outfielder then trade Larnach and prospects for a good one.
  6. These proposed extension articles need to include the players age and arb status as these are two large factors in considering an idea like this. Off the top of my head (which means I’m probably wrong) Royce is 26 or 27 and has four more years of team control. For me I would just pay him is arb numbers and if he is great slap a QO on him at age 31.
  7. Pass. I’m willing to let Miranda run with it.
  8. No. There are many different opinions on this site. It’s useless to make sweeping generalizations about a large group of people.
  9. It’s not fair to say most posters say anything. The sweeping generalizations of TD posters is not useful and inaccurate. Cleveland and Tampa succeed as you pointed out but not from some secret strategy that we are against. They succeed because they make better personnel decisions. I’m all for trading any player for good value. Falvey hasn’t demonstrated that he can consistently do that. It’s fine to trade Polanco - getting nothing in return is the problem.
  10. I’m sure they do. I’m sure they will offer him the max dollars allowed. I’m sure they will make a nice presentation about how great Minnesota is. But guess what: it’s still a fourth place team that is for sale. Seattle has fishing a very strong Japanese culture is 4 hours closer to home and they can give him the same money. Go ahead and hope - I’m with you. But if he doesn’t come here it isn’t some failure on Falvey s part.
  11. The Oakland Athletics of the 70s hated each other and won 3 World Series. One of my favorite Casey Stengel sayings is “the key to managing is to keep the guys that hate you away from the guys who haven’t made up their minds yet”.
  12. I get the concept - starting pitching is the most valuable currency in baseball. However I disagree with the notion that the Twins have a surplus of pitching. Maybe next year at this time but not now. I would trade EmEod for a right handed version of himself. Said player can’t have wacky platoon splits and must be able to catch the ball.
  13. I’m sure the Twins have already made the offer. A few walleyes aren’t going to do it. The Twins are not that attractive of an option right now.
  14. This. That’s why my #1 move would be to trade for a cost controlled right handed hitting outfielder that doesn’t need to be platooned. Preferably one that can catch a batted ball. Let Miranda play first and we now have cut the platoon monkey business way down.
  15. Agreed. Plus I don’t want to use valuable trade assets to acquire a catcher. In this org they are going to be a half time player so keep Jeffers and sign a defensive backup style guy for cheaper.
  16. I love this deal. He’s only 26 and has some actual stuff. Signed to a milb contract means no risk. Would not be surprised if this deal actually works considerably better than the usual Jay Jackson type pickup.
  17. I really like Ober but I would not extend him. You have him at arb salaries until age 32 which is a perfect time to trade him get a prospect and let someone else pay for his decline years.
  18. The answer might be that the WAR calculation isn’t accurate or to break out the numbers by rotation / bullpen. This is from memory but I believe some of the bullpen arms were not good allowing inherented runners to score.
  19. My definition of a lottery ticket is someone from the low minors. He was no more low odds than any prospect not in the elite category. As far as the time has passed it’s not really relevant. It’s not like the time value of money where the talent is worth more in the short run. You cited Caves 553 plate appearances over two years. That’s the very definition of a bench player. He wasn’t worth much but Falvey rolled the dice and got burned.
  20. Former Twins farmhand Luis Gil was named AL Rookie of the Year. He was traded to the Yankees for Jake Cave. While it was a while ago this trade stings. Even though Gil was a lottery ticket conceptually I would never trade a legit pitching prospect for a bench player. My forever image of the Caveman will be him running in and diving for a ball and ending up 6 feet short of the ball.
  21. Plus I believe there are 6-8 other teams that have the same amount as the Twins to offer. Sounds like a long shot but agree the call should be made.
  22. Thanks for the article. I agree with big dog - neither Rosario or Jones were as good as Hisle. The Twins were amazing in the 70s with the bats. Bostock was a pure joy to watch play.
