  1. I like it. It’s been a black hole for a while so let’s try something different.
  2. What this, combined with the other Twins pitching scouting reports tells me is that the late round college pitcher who we can add velocity to premise isn’t the market inefficiency that the Twins were banking on. Perhaps the pitchers taken in early rounds are better after all.
  3. This sums it up nicely for me. There doesn’t seem to be a strategic plan that takes into account future years. So I hope we flip heads five times in a row and win 85 games. I’ll still enjoy watching.
  4. Terry Ryan hasn’t been around for ten years. I’m not sure why we are even worried about what he did or didn’t do. Falvey had plenty of time.
  5. This sums it up nicely for me. I would characterize Falvey a little more charitably but still not good enough to warrant hanging on to his job. Realistically it took both parties failing to create this mess.
  6. Yep I’m thinking it is being used on purpose by the writers as it never fails to get a reaction, even though nobody really knows precisely what it is 😀
  7. With a pick this high you have to get a high upside pitcher, catcher, SS or CF. For that reason I would lean towards LeBron. As you pointed out a lot of things can change before the draft.
  8. Signing Nelson Cruz and then flipping him for Joe Ryan has to be his best move, one of the best in franchise history. The rest of his tenure has been meh or worse. One reason I’m looking forward to Zoll having a shot is I don’t think it will be difficult to match Falveys performance and he may well exceed it.
  9. Actually a differing vision might be the solution. None of us know what happened behind the scenes other than the net result of the Joe Pohlad era has been confusing and rudderless. Joe is gone which is probably a good thing. Falvey leaving is potentially a very good thing. From a baseball perspective he was mediocre at best. He wasn’t horrible as some suggest but the bad decision pile was clearly bigger than the good decision pile. He was dogmatic in his baseball principles even when they didn’t work. From the business side he had no prior experience running a franchise so it’s probably a really good idea for Tom to bring in an experienced business person to take care of that half of the franchise exclusively. They sure could use some improvement. Regarding Zoll, I have no idea but the bar to clear to equal Falvey is t that high. Not much to lose here and potentially lots to gain if he turns out to be a sharp baseball mind who can better blend analytics with better organizational planning and good old baseball common sense. So while it looks like a clown show right now, these moves just might give this organization better footing and a clearer idea of which direction to head. Like others Toms messaging is concerning but I think it’s just smoke and mirrors to try and turn a negative PR tide.
  10. And the cupboard remains bare. Keep going - we soon will find a position/pipeline with something there.
  11. Who knows but I’m guessing Tom wanted to wait a couple of months to see how things were working first hand before he started making high level decisions. Came to the conclusion that Falvey wasn’t his guy.
  12. Well it we are going by position numbers 3rd base is next which ought to be a real knee slapper.
  13. I kind of focused on position players but want to acknowledge Dasan Hill and Charlee Soto. They have the tools to do stuff but A ball is so far away that anything can happen.
  14. Not surprising. The people that get excited about the Twins system focus more on quantity it seems. I focus on quality, players who can be difference makers. In this regard I see Walker Jenkins. K Culpepper has a chance to be a competent big league SS which is valuable. GG and EmRod have enough warts that they won’t be difference makers in the show. After that you are going to A ball for Tait which is miles away. This isn’t to say that an unheralded prospect or two pop up and have a run and provide depth. I’m actually most excited about the group of starters that are kind of between prospect and big league status. It’s not unlikely that one of them becomes a really good pitcher and several add good depth to the pitching staff. But I’m sorry I’m not going to get excited about prospects whose ceiling is replacement level or slightly above.
  15. I think 75.5 should be the number so I’ll take the over.
  16. Yep and they both had an insanely high babip during their hot streaks. Whatever Julien was going to be it wasn’t what he showed in 2023 but people just can’t let go of it. Some wise old baseball guy once said any player can be anything (good or bad) for 40 games. Eddie was lucky to have his luck at the start of his career.
  17. I appreciate these thoughts as I’ve been viewing it the other way. Meaning, the collapse of the RSNs and corresponding income means many owners will be more motivated to make gains in the next CBA. I can see your side too so it will be interesting to watch it play out.
  18. Call San Fran and get Eldridge and a reliever or SS prospect. Finally solves first base and possibly one of the many starter candidates steps up.
  19. He can improve his hitting certainly as experience surely helps. Whether that happens remains to be seen. What is pretty certain in my mind is that he is maxed out defensively. He’s not going to get faster (in fact he will soon start to get slower) or develop more arm strength. If he is going to be an everyday player it likely would be at third but we already have someone we are waiting on at third. Near term, where he plays isn’t the biggest concern as if he doesn’t hit better he won’t be playing anywhere.
  20. Conveniently no mention of the biggest flaw, the bullpen. I am interested in building a good to great team, not one that if everything goes their way they can win 83 games and flirt with a wildcard spot. Perhaps my expectations are unrealistic but I know that what they are doing now is not the path to real success.
  21. He justneeds the right opportunity, but whether that right opportunity exists in Minnesota isn't clear yet. The Twins have given him plenty of at bats and have largely shielded him from lefties. He’s 29 years old - this is who he is: a roughly average hitter who can’t hit lefties and isn’t good in the field. DH ing him is even worse as one should expect clear positive production from that spot.
  22. As I e stated numerous times on these boards, when they start rolling out intangibles as a player quality it usually means they aren’t very good anymore. You can keep the intangibles and give him 4mph on his fastball.
  23. There is zero chance the Twins are going to pay Joe what he will get in free agency and I don’t blame them. Thats why you trade him now. Let’s also not forget Joe hasn’t been an iron man on the mound. For the record, he is my favorite Twins pitcher.
