  1. Saw an older gentleman in the bar - didn’t appear to be wealthy. He bought four drinks - for himself and three friends. Left a dollar tip to which the bartender snorted in derision. The whole tipping think is out of control
  2. I don’t know about done but I can’t recall him getting out on a strike. That’s the stuff that gets noticed in a hurry.
  3. I’m sure the vodka (if the quantity is sufficient) will kill any germs. Might be a requirement to continue watching.
  4. Amen. Seems like a great guy but I don’t care to listen to him ramble for three hours.
  5. No pressure Bailey - we might win if you throw a shutout.
  6. I’m a firm believer that all prospects are suspects until they aren’t. Having said that I am as excited about Winokur as any prospect since Buck. To me he is head and shoulders above any other SS in our system and hope they leave him at short. He made a play in spring training where he went way deep in the hole, like way on the outfield grass, smooth backhand pickup and then threw an absolute seed to first. Correa like velocity.
  7. Yes that was already pointed out. The point of the story was the frustration of having great pitching and no hitting. And it may not even have been Koufax that threw the no hitter - I just think it is a funny story not an examination of baseball history.
  8. Probably. He has to make substantial improvements on both sides of the ball to be useful in the big leagues. He could improve his hitting but probably never enough to make up for his poor fielding. Likewise he could improve his fielding but probably never enough to make up for his mediocre bat. More concerning to me is this is a complete whiff in player evaluation and development by the FO which isnt uncommon.
  9. It’s exciting to have good pitching prospects but the only thing that matters is how they do against mlb hitters. So as far as making comparisons Thats the only one that matters (to me anyway).
  10. I probably have the year wrong too but it’s a story that has become part of baseball lore. Sorry you didn’t enjoy it.
  11. I really like Ober. He is a solidly top 25% pitcher in the big leagues. However his margin for error is so much smaller than the dominant starters in the league. He can cruise through a lineup most of the time but when he isn’t right he can get pounded. I’m satisfied having him with the Twins as is.
  12. I hear you. I think you should be able to download the app but I’m not going to talk too smart because it appeared for me on DirectTV stream automatically. My mother in law used to love the Twins but has Dish network which doesn’t carry the Twins App. I offered to set up the app in addition to her TV and when she found out it was another app, another account, and more money she just passed.
  13. Somehow they have constructed a lineup that is poor defensively and struggles to hit. That takes talent.
  14. The 69 Dodgers had elite pitching with Koufax, Drysdale, etc. Their hitting was horrible. Drysdale was on the injured list and wasnt with the team. He was told that Koufax threw a no hitter that day. His response: “Did we win?” Not sure why the Twins make me think of that story.
  15. I have DiirectTV stream and it is channel 668. If you have the sports package no extra charge.
  16. Get a son/daughter or niece/nephew to set it up. That’s what they are there for.
  17. My my our language leaves something to be desired.
  18. Nice start by Ryan. Full disclosure Ive never been a fan of Alcala and this is why: I don’t care how good your stuff is if you can throw it where you want it. i have to say the Cards are a fun team to watch. They put the ball in play and make some really great plays in the field. Stark contrast to the Twins.
  19. Great to see a minor league report. Also great to see some of the highest rated prospects in AAA
  20. Mathew LeCroy
  21. I think he plays out his contract and retires especially if he has health issues. There is no ego in the man so he won’t keep playing for the limelight. I also think he will be a fine center fielder through the contract. People associate his defensive prowess to his speed and Thats certainly helps but just as important is that he gets great jumps and takes excellent routes to the ball. He also has excellent judgement - he knows when to dive and when to back off. I know this will not be a popular opinion but I bet he will be a better CF than EmRod or Jenkins.. If something is going to crater with Buck I thing it will be the bat. I worry that with his high hands and longish swing any significant reduction in bat speed is going to be a big problem.
  22. Agreed. The ump made a motion indicating the balk was due to hand movement. I didn’t see anything unless we are measuring in quantum physics or something. This is my issue with most officiating in all sports - if in doubt don’t call it. It was also interesting that the Cards sent two runners in much the same way. They must have picked up a tell in Pablo’s delivery.
  23. It is because he is right at the point where it’s tempting to not let him walk but also risky to extend him for a lengthy contract, especially because he doesn’t hit so well you would DH him or move him to first.
