  1. Don’t remember his pitch mix but yea most knuckleballers rarely throw any other pitch. Love the user name btw
  2. I am as skeptical of the Pohlads as anybody and Tom’s double talk about trying to win in 26 while leaving payroll low doesn’t help. But if a shake up was needed, the Twins have done quite a bit. They essentially fired the top two members of the org in Joe P and Falvey - that is pretty significant albeit more behind the scenes. So if you throw the manager in there 3 of the 4 most important positions have been changed. I’m guessing Zoll is on a short leash as well. These are big changes they just don’t impact wins and losses for a while. This gives me more optimism than the moves made to the roster.
  3. I think you have nailed it. Fundy will need to clearly outpitch all those vets to make the 26 and I don’t see that happening. Part of me thinks these moves are about bringing guys to showcase and dealing them at the deadline. Also makes me think that my pipe dream of putting young arms in the pen is completely dead. As always, great topic.
  4. Maybe he needs to throw the knuckler 75% of the time.
  5. Interesting. They obviously have several lefties for the pen. I wonder if they will keep the vets and deal Funderburk or if this is just cheap insurance against injuries.
  6. Assuming you are being serious…. He uses the knuckled as a change up. He throws a regular arsenal of other pitches.
  7. Correct. When drafted the scouting report for him as a SS was he had the speed and quickness, arm strength was sufficient but not great. However many scouts questioned his “actions” - that ability to read the play properly and set yourself up for the best play. I remember one scout saying “ he never gets the best hop”. I have no idea about the validity of any of it just stuff I read as I was really interested in him when drafted.
  8. Complete click bait. Headlines / articles like this degrade the site.
  9. It’s strange to me the lack of love Sim gets. I don’t know if it’s because he doesn’t throw 97 or if people are not satisfied unless he’s prime Verlander. The dude competes on the mound and is a solid 4th starter or good 5th starter. All the suspects people are excited about are the same age or older and haven’t done a thing compared to SWR.
  10. Considering I would have taken Lowe over Bell straight up I can only say wow.
  11. Quite simply (assuming you are trying to win) you want your best pitchers pitching the most innings and the high leverage innings. I’m definitely not worried about figuring out a way for Travis Adam’s to pitch more.
  12. Here’s hoping. I don’t care if he is not up for a little while. Do whatever is best for his development- we need him to pan out.
  13. I’m optimistic that Ober is going to be his old self. Occam’s razor says his hip injury was the problem. I hope they let Priellip pitch out of the pen. He can get his innings managed and if things go well start next year. Raya will be in St Paul.
  14. The headline should read “and none of it matters”. I never place much weight on the talk but there are signs that the Twins are trying to do something. Tom got rid of Joe P and then Falvey which are two substantial moves. It makes sense to me that Tom wants an adept business person running the business side and that wasn’t Falvey. The business side has been a mess for years. He may need to move on from Zoll as well but that is probably too much in a short period of time.
  15. For me, the individual moves made or not made isn’t the story. The apparent lack of direction is what is really concerning to me. My fear is they are going to waste Ryan Lopez and Jeffers by trying to thread a very small needle in 2026. Ironically I don’t think the fan base is going to feel much different if they blew it up or if they go 82-80. Please pick a direction and pursue it.
  16. He is one of the smartest baseball guys out there. I’m also anticipating that he won’t ramble on like most of the other analysts do. Looking forward to it.
  17. Thanks for the good info. Seems like command / control is the real problem. Watching him last year I was left with the feeling that pitches got away from him frequently.
  18. Culpepper is a really important prospect for the Twins. If he can play a decent SS in the big leagues the Twins infield could begin to take shape. If he can’t, we will either continue wandering in the desert or give up a really good pitcher or two to solve the problem. I am really skeptical of Houston. If you play 3 years of high level college ball and struggle that badly at high A, that’s a huge red flag. This season will say a lot about both players.
  19. I’m having the same issue. Can respond to a post but can’t originate one.
  20. Great article. Technology certainly makes the adjustment period shorter than it has ever been. The sinker was thrown for a really long time and then launch angle killed it. As hitters are now adjusting to high heat the sinker is coming back. Interesting stuff
  21. I would not characterize his tenure as a success nor an abject failure. Given the payrolls relative to the division and the weaker competition within the division, we should have made the playoffs more often. One thing I want to push back on was the statement that he inherited a horrible roster. Buxton, Sano, Kepler, Polanco, Berrios, Gibson, Pressly, May etc. with the exception of 2019 you could argue he never assembled a roster as good as the one he inherited.
  22. I like the idea and would prefer it to having Bell at first but that bed seems to be made. I think you will get your wish of Martin / Roden in left but I will bet Larnach is the DH. Just don’t see surplus value there in a trade.
  23. Thats kind of the point - they purposely avoided using higher draft picks on pitchers for the first half or more of Falveys tenure because they deemed it too risky and that they had the secret sauce on these later round college guys. Some of them will be good relievers but that particular strategy hasn’t worked to develop starters as they originally hoped it would. I also understand they have acquired good starters via trade and they get a hot tip for that but in that you have to give to get.
