  1. You have to play to the abilities of your players and the Twins just don’t have much team speed. Even though steals are a very exciting part of the game I hate seeing outs made on the bases and that happened quite a bit at the end of last year. Give it a shot this spring to see which guys can actually do it and go from there.
  2. Hopefully his preparation isn’t significantly delayed.
  3. Appreciate these breakdowns of the pitching prospects. He will likely get a taste of the show this year.
  4. During the off season I posted that the Twins contending was like flipping heads 5 times in a row. Well the first coin just came up tails. There was a very real risk in not dealing Pablo and Joe, the risk being injury and cratered trade value. Pablo is done and will provide very little value to the Twins. Ryan has an injury history too - if he goes down with a serious injury the Twins will have turned their best two trade assets into nothing.
  5. Attebery is in mid - season form. He hasn’t shut up since the game started. Mute.
  6. Could be but I’m not sure. They scored runs back in the day, it was just done differently
  7. The old saying is “slim and none, and slim just left town”. My non- snarky answer would be prior to the injury they had to have several things break their way to make the playoffs. That list just got longer. Being their best starter pretty much means he is one of if not the most important player.
  8. I’ve thought about this topic from a slightly different angle. Modern baseball isn’t as fun to watch due to long stretches of inactivity. Here is an idea that might work. 10 man pitching staffs combined with a deader ball. Pitchers would have to pitch more innings but with the deader ball they could go back to more of a pitch to contact approach. Try and get hitters out earlier in counts. More action and moves the game along.
  9. Hopefully he gets 500-600 ABs this season and we will find out.
  10. Trevor Larnach has little to no trade value. The idea that he can be traded for any pitcher of value is laughable. The decision to tender him is another example of why Falvey is unemployed.
  11. To me the irony is T-3 thinks he has to do this to save some form of fan relationship. I honestly think it will not make any difference at all. The general feeling of the fan base isn’t going to change whether they tear it down or win 82 games. Really, the trying to compete in 26 strategy just delays what will really make a difference to the fans: an exciting up and coming ball club.
  12. Hopefully he is okay. This does illustrate the risk the Twins are taking holding onto Ryan , Lopez etc chasing a 500 season. You could end up holding the bag if they get seriously hurt.
  13. This. He hasn’t lost speed to speak of. I haven’t noticed any decline other than I think he is playing it a little safer out there.
  14. Don’t remember his pitch mix but yea most knuckleballers rarely throw any other pitch. Love the user name btw
  15. I am as skeptical of the Pohlads as anybody and Tom’s double talk about trying to win in 26 while leaving payroll low doesn’t help. But if a shake up was needed, the Twins have done quite a bit. They essentially fired the top two members of the org in Joe P and Falvey - that is pretty significant albeit more behind the scenes. So if you throw the manager in there 3 of the 4 most important positions have been changed. I’m guessing Zoll is on a short leash as well. These are big changes they just don’t impact wins and losses for a while. This gives me more optimism than the moves made to the roster.
  16. I think you have nailed it. Fundy will need to clearly outpitch all those vets to make the 26 and I don’t see that happening. Part of me thinks these moves are about bringing guys to showcase and dealing them at the deadline. Also makes me think that my pipe dream of putting young arms in the pen is completely dead. As always, great topic.
  17. Maybe he needs to throw the knuckler 75% of the time.
  18. Interesting. They obviously have several lefties for the pen. I wonder if they will keep the vets and deal Funderburk or if this is just cheap insurance against injuries.
  19. Assuming you are being serious…. He uses the knuckled as a change up. He throws a regular arsenal of other pitches.
  20. Correct. When drafted the scouting report for him as a SS was he had the speed and quickness, arm strength was sufficient but not great. However many scouts questioned his “actions” - that ability to read the play properly and set yourself up for the best play. I remember one scout saying “ he never gets the best hop”. I have no idea about the validity of any of it just stuff I read as I was really interested in him when drafted.
  21. Complete click bait. Headlines / articles like this degrade the site.
  22. It’s strange to me the lack of love Sim gets. I don’t know if it’s because he doesn’t throw 97 or if people are not satisfied unless he’s prime Verlander. The dude competes on the mound and is a solid 4th starter or good 5th starter. All the suspects people are excited about are the same age or older and haven’t done a thing compared to SWR.
  23. Considering I would have taken Lowe over Bell straight up I can only say wow.
  24. Quite simply (assuming you are trying to win) you want your best pitchers pitching the most innings and the high leverage innings. I’m definitely not worried about figuring out a way for Travis Adam’s to pitch more.
