I was referring to Wichita as I was out of the loop for a week. Agreed on his fielding ability but I think he could get better through better conditioning. Without getting too personal he doesn’t have the physique of a pro athlete.

Apparently Gonzalez has been promoted. I’m not his biggest fan due to defensive limitations but always good to see someone go earn a promotion through superior performance. Hoping K Culpepper is next.

I’m no SABR metric genius but the idea behind no such thing as “clutch” is based on research that shows clutch numbers being random from year to year and player to player. There probably are players that tighten up in those moments and others that lock in better in those moments but I think the research shows that for the vast majority of players it’s just random.

The Minnesota Twins All-Century Prospect Team: Pitchers
Linus replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don’t understand the criteria being used for selecting the players but Brad Radke has to be included in any Twins pitching list. Drafted and developed by the Twins and played his entire career here.- 10 replies

Royce isnt good enough to play this way. If you can’t play the game normally then your value to the team is always going to be limited unless you are a true elite player. On the play where he got doubled off I assumed he made a mental mistake. If he really accepted getting doubled off because he didn’t want to risk injury that’s way worse and he shouldn’t be out there.

Zebby is living proof that control and command are two different things. He doesn’t walk anybody but does not locate his pitches with accuracy often enough.

Why was Royce tipping his hat to the guy catching his fly ball to the warming track? -

Ok Rocco wouldn’t let a lefty hit against a lefty last year to save his life. Now we have Kiersey hitting against a lefty in a tie game. He had no chance. -

I saw that comment as well. I don’t get it - you are a pro athlete and are 10 lbs over weight?- 55 replies

I actually agree with this idea. Why not have a promising young pitcher occupy the last couple spots in the pen instead of the retread vets? The whole “gotta keep em stretched out” theory isnt really valid anymore. Keep them stretched out so they can go 4.2 innings? You could have Festa and Sim or Mathews pitching 3 innings twice a week and save other arms while getting rid of marginal pitchers like Alcala and Funderburk.

I like this thought process. Pitching roles are changing as we speak. If you forget all the traditional roles there are ways to get innings out of your best pitchers in a variety of ways.

For once my memory was accurate. Boy would we take a Butch Wynegar on the Twins right now. I remember a game against the Angels I think where Butch got a moth in his ear and the game was delayed quite a bit. Gene Mauch was the manager of the Angels and was throwing a fit. Not sure why that sticks in my mind…… Thanks for this. I hope you do one on Bostock and Joe Cambria.

I propose we get rid of the city connect jerseys. -
This is a good idea. There are enough non team specific topics that a talented writer could get exposure across all of these related sites.
