  1. Stringer - I appreciate these topics that you post as they always get me thinking. Along the same lines, I would be interested in getting people’s thoughts on what do we have with Larnach. He’s hitting better of late but overall numbers are decent. Not a butcher in the field but certainly not great. Is he part of the future?
  2. You are correct. Scouting reports basically said he wouldn’t stick at SS but could be good at third. Good contact hitter but would need to develop power. So the scouts were right on the money this time.
  3. I think you have summarized the situation nicely. He has to hit better to be a player you will count on for the long haul. If not he is a bench player which would not be a good outcome for an 8th overall pick He still has time to make that jump in his hitting so fingers crossed.
  4. Ive wondered the same thing. Conventional wisdom is pitching out of the pen is easier on the arm but starters have quite a set routine where they can tailor their preparation for their next turn. Additionally they are pitching fewer innings. Relievers have to get up in a hurry, pitch on back to back days etc.
  5. Great news. Can still be a great season for him if he can stay healthy.
  6. Clemens throw on the contact play was outstanding. He did several non hitting things to contribute. I really like the way Varland goes after the hitters. He’s gonna get burned sometimes but his aggressive style is so refreshing. Alcala and Funderburk should pay attention.
  7. Jeffers should never thrown the ball. It was a tough pitch to handle and the guy had a great jump. A mental mistake for sure that cost them the game. That’s something that worries me about the Twins: they make too many fundamental mistakes which are critical in close games.
  8. I believe the trade deadline is a bad time to make trades now. With expanded playoffs there are more buyers than sellers which means higher prices. I wanted to trade for an outfield bat last off season - the FO stuck with their group of emerging players which was a defensible strategy. Unfortunately most of those players have tanked. I think we need to stand Pat and hope some guys start hitting and then address this more long term in the off season.
  9. Alcala and Funderburk are not good pitchers. They’ve never been good pitchers for any sustained length of time as neither of them has control or command. It’s always been frustrating to read people fawning over their “stuff” when they have no idea where it’s going. I think it is time to get creative and bring in some of our promising AAA pitchers and use them in a piggy back role. If they go multiple innings a couple times a week they could handle a spot start if need be. There is no such thing as a low leverage reliever.
  10. Excellent play by Wallner. Direct route to the ball and then his strong arm.
  11. Somehow Brooks Lee who is a sled caught the foul pop that Jeffers had to catch last night.
  12. Nowhere in my posts did I suggest Royce should be demoted generally or for this play. The catcher ran considerably farther than the third baseman. Royce is playing the game in a limited way.
  13. I thought the same thing. Not only did Jeffers run a long way Royce wasnt even in the TV picture when Jeffers caught it.
  14. Yep. This is the part people are overlooking to a certain extent. We have multiple option to play third Thats are better than this version of Royce.
  15. So how does Jeffers run way down the third base to catch that foul and Royce is not even in the picture?
  16. TK once said “ leadership is a two out double with runners on” or something like that.
  17. Lots of Good information but equally as important is how he is being pitched to. Did pitchers start pitching him differently halfway through last year? Can Royce adjust? I hope he figures it out but many a hitter has burst on the scene only struggle once the league gets a book on them.
  18. Is it as simple as the league has adjusted to him and he has not adjusted back? He doesn’t have that many mlb at bats. It’s quite a common scenario with young players.
  19. Forbes reported the Twins made $19 million in 2023. I have not seen any estimates for 2024. I find no credibility in your “it has been reported” statement.
  20. I think he was referring to front office and some people’s belief that they try to save face in their personnel decisions. To the other point, I’m completely confident Royce wants out of this slump more than anyone. It’s a weird social dynamic that people want to assign fault in all situations of failure.
  21. I was referring to Wichita as I was out of the loop for a week. Agreed on his fielding ability but I think he could get better through better conditioning. Without getting too personal he doesn’t have the physique of a pro athlete.
