  1. Yea I wasn’t implying they are similar ball players rather I would trade Julien for similar reasons. Both players have a thing or things they do extremely well but also have serious weaknesses. I feel like Arreazs trade value was higher than his real value. I think the case might be the same for Julien. Of course I have no idea what other GMs would be willing to give up for Julien so we will never know.
  2. Good grief Royce. I love his attitude about bases loaded situations. It’s the pitcher that should be nervous.
  3. Loved the trade at the time and would do it again in a heartbeat. That we got two prospects thrown in really helps. I enjoyed watching Arreaz sprinkling hits all over the field. But that’s it - can’t hit for power can’t run and below average in the field. For similar reasons I would trade high on Julien.
  4. The build a bullpen from cast offs strategy sounds familiar.
  5. Thank you for the info. With the infielders we have I was kind of hoping he could transition to the outfield.
  6. If I am remembering correctly Severino is a 2b /3b type who isn’t very good defensively. Is this correct and could the guy play left field?
  7. This. The guy won’t swing the bat. The strike em out throw em out was ridiculous. He has to swing the bat there as Farmer isn’t trying to outright steal. The biggest problem in this game wasn’t a manager decision it was Max whiffing on a relatively routine fly ball.
  8. I don’t like the 4th innings pinch hits but I’m not bothered by the Vasquez move. Rocco had two low percentage choices. Perhaps if Julien would swing the bat on a pitch on the black he might be the better choice in clutch situations.
  9. If I had to bet my pension it would be this trifecta of sorts. I’ll leave Taylor out of this because I think he is a given. I think Stewart will return for sure and Gordon will be available if there are injuries or they deem him to be a better left field option than Wallner. I don’t think Paddock or Alcala will help the club. It takes a while post TJ to get command and control back and don’t think Paddock will get through that rust this fall. Alcala is a typical example of prospect love. The guy has been good for two months in his career and can’t get lefties out but we are counting on him for the playoffs. He’s not going to help because we should have better options.
  10. Completely agree with this. I’m a Kiriloff fan but not in the outfield. One of the things that is way overrated is positional flexibility. There are a few guys that can play multiple positions acceptably well but not many. Most of the time positional flexibility is another way of saying bad defense.
  11. Lots of blame to go around on this loss. Special mention to Jeffers for one of the worst baserunning plays I’ve ever seen.
  12. If he’s healthy at the end of the season you 100% bring him back. He is the best option at second and it ain’t even close.
  13. Royce is really fun to watch. Scouts talk about makeup and Royce is the best example of why that is important. I would like to caution everyone in that Royce is going to have his ups and downs as all young players do. I really like the fact that he could be a plus fielder at 3rd 2nd and center field.
  14. Well he has one good reliever to choose from. This FO bullpen construction philosophy is inexcusable.
  15. Jeffers is a bad base runner. Someone needs to tell him to just go station to station. There is nothing his running is going to do to help the Twins win.
  16. Yea the idea that the pen is sufficient is pretty laughable. They literally have Duran and then cross your fingers.
  17. Well Wallner is slumping and Gallo stinks. So if I need someone to play left field Gordon may end up being an option. You would at least plan for that contingency.
  18. Good grief. He’s pitched 6 innings. We know nothing about him - I almost skipped the article and should have.
  19. I think they have made far fewer baserunning blunders this year compared to last year when they were terrible. That said they are not a particularly good baserunning team but that has mostly to do with lineup construction.
  20. You say there were other ways to handle him but don’t say what those other ways were. They needed him taking a regular turn to try and win the division. I’m pretty critical of the FO but don’t really any mishandling here. They had a good rotation all season long and Bailey got thru an entire season without injury. Sounds like a pretty good outcome to me.
  21. They do have a core of good young players and a starting rotation that should be pretty good going forward. Totally disagree they have a star studded farm system. I actually think it’s kind of weak especially in the pitching department. I think the key will be if they adapt their philosophy on lineup and bullpen construction which I believe are flawed. The lineup concerns may be going away with the integration of the good young players who are more well rounded hitters than what we have seen. However the pitching concerns me as we still need more and there ain’t much on the farm. That means more trades which are fine if they work.
  22. I only care what he hits in the big leagues. He’s been fine but the jury is always out on young players until the league sees them and they see the league for a while. As far as his defense goes he is not good. If you know anything about baseball that is pretty clear. He can get better but passable is his top end result.
