  1. Trevor Bauer as a pitcher. Why not? Take like or dislike out of the equation. They brought in Donaldson for a year. 3 years ago Carlos Correa was a hated villain. Now he's the Twins assistant GM. If he wants to get back into MLB I'm pretty sure he'd tow the line for whatever team takes a gamble on him. There will be blowback to be sure. But that'll all be forgotten if he has a typical Trevor Bauer season on the mound.
  2. And that criticism isn't warranted? Just because they're honest about ONE thing doesn't mean one can't be critical of those plans. There was a whole paragraph on the billion dollar spending Dodgers coming to town. Teams trying to get better don't get there by saying, hey let's make cuts across the board. We'll be better for it. It sounds like the A's sans the tarp. I'll bet Falvey Baldelli and Levine aren't taking pay cuts as payroll is. What's next? No heaters at Twins Fest? Save on electricity. The stadium shrinkage for April is for cost cutting measures. Heightened fan experience isn't the reason.
  3. I think that was a typing error. With his always optimistic views. I think he may have meant HOT!
  4. The #1 resolution should be to burn the vest. Land of 10,000 rakes.
  5. I'm pretty sure that wasn't Winston. But yeah. 👍
  6. After reading the post and some of the comments I was left wondering. Is it the Hall of Fame, or is it the Hall of the most popular? Or the Hall of most law abiding? That's why there is I believe only 1 person elected unanimously. It's a joke. Jeter was left off a ballot because 1 person didn't like him or thought he was overrated, whatever. Beltre will probably be left off a ballot or 2 for some perceived slight as well. He wasn't flashy or overpowering enough. He just hit .300 and hit 20+ homers a year for an entire career. That's HOF material. Mauers numbers stack up favorably as well. Beltran was really good when he was healthy. But I think the trash cans are still too fresh in the writers memory. Wagner was dominant for a good chunk of his career. Sheffield was too. What is the baseline of a real good player vs a great one? That's the hard part. Leave the rest out of it.
  7. What I remember was Byron Buxton had a pretty good April and started falling off dramatically in early May. I don't want to use arbitrary numbers for games played or homeruns simply because you can't based on history. If he can sustain his April 2023 numbers for however many games it will be a positive. It was the how he still tried to go out there everyday and see him struggle so mightily. It was painful to watch. The fact that he kept going might be noble, yet it's not necessarily what's good for him or the team. Does he need to be told when it's time to sit for his own benefit? It seems that way to me. He talked his way on to the playoff roster albeit for 1 AB. But that's a different topic.
  8. You're going all over just to try and make the Park quote work. So I was off by 1 on the Twins win. 87. Why does it seem to be such a drastic difference in the playoffs and regular season? The Twins didn't win at a 60% clip all year let alone the 85% and that's with a top 5 statistic wise pitching staff. And I stated that usually playoff games are tighter scoring wise yet this doesn't seem the case for 2023 playoffs. So I really can't explain the difference. It's kind of like the old basketball analogy of win by the jump shot die by the jump shot. But now it's throw up as many 3s as possible. You'll score more points even with a lower %.
  9. The Twins won 86 games. They were top 5 in homers. Why only 86 wins? When you find yourself in a close ball game against better pitching do you change your approach? They did against Gausman. By laying off the splitter out of the strike zone which allowed them some good swings on fastballs. You're arguing just to argue about out homering your opponent. When you limit yourself to only 1 option to score regardless of the situation is crazy. And it's also why they got bounced. Hey look! They won their games when they out homered their opponents but they lost when they didn't. They need to double down. They might stike out 2000 times this year but they hit more homers. So it must be working. 2019. Another perfect example of all or nothing. The recipe is getting guys on base. Then homer. Solo shots look good on the highlight reel.
  10. The point is a lot of those games were blowouts. Through the entirety of the 2023 playoffs there were only 6 1 run games. There were more games lost by 4 or more runs where you would expect the winning team to out homer the loser. But in close games to just stick to the plan is not good baseball. Over the last 3 innings the Twins put 1 ball in play over their last 8 AB. And your logic is to just out homer your opponent.
  11. Game 4 vs Astros. Twins 2 HR 14 K. Astros 2 HR 10 K
  12. His track record for the entirety of his career does not equate to skepticism. Those are FACTS. Everyone is hopeful that maybe this year will be different yet are not willing to bet on this happening. Would you? I'd be willing to bet he won't play over 100 games. I'm not an oddsmaker. But if I bet the under I'd win less than if I bet the over and he does happen to play in over 100 games. I see a lot of posts about him playing 80-100 games in CF and then another 40 as DH. That would be great. But what are these numbers based on? HOPE and nothing else. A backup plan similar last year has to be considered. A few years ago I saw some numbers of Twins record with and without Buxton in the lineup. It was significant. But that was because there wasn't a backup in place. 2023 saw Michael Taylor fill that void. Buxton going down also coincided with the offense improving after the all-star break.
  13. Similar to the juggernaut Twins
  14. This is not to argue. Miranda did not take part in the WBC last year due to the shoulder. In spring training he was clobbering the ball. When the season started he struggled right out of the gate. Did the shoulder problem persist or get worse?Colder weather? I hope he bounces back. But right now he's a man looking for a position and the Twins still have options
  15. All I want for Christmas is my 2 bomb ers my 2 bomb ers. To suggest that any combination the Twins have as of Dec 14 2023 and compare them to Soto/Judge or Betts/Ohtani/Freeman Tucker/Alvarez Acuna Jr/Olson is blasphemous sacrilegious lazy incompetent wishful thinking. 😴
  16. Where does the 10 million per WAR number come from? If that's a genuine figure guys like Acuna, Freeman, Betts, Olson. Cole, and Ohtani are a steal. And most of those with the exception of Ohtani are already signed to long term deals. But just going by the numbers Ohtani and his agent should be looking for 60 million or so a year. If WAR value is that high he was worth 100 million in 2023. That's cumulative between pitching and hitting. Since he won't be pitching in 24 what is his projected WAR? 6? I don't get it.
  17. That's not the point. And are you disputing that Roccos contract was not a substantial pay raise? The point was they pick and choose what they release and when they do it. Which is their prerogative. Some might prefer to give a "crappy relief pitcher" a going rate contract over a push button manager.
  18. Let the paying public know that you're lowering payroll, but don't tell them about extending the manager and giving a sizeable raise until well after the fact.
  19. I have nothing against Martin. I just think they could get more out of Michael Helman. And he's not even ranked. Is there hate for him? IMO Martin's stock dropped because he didn't set the world on fire as he advanced. Injuries and other players improvements in the system. I would say he's solid but still has a ways to go. Maybe 2024 will put him back on track. Writers and scouts get stuff wrong once in a while too.
  20. Agree on the Martin part. Just because someone is put in CF doesn't necessarily make them a CF. Castro was serviceable out there. But the difference between him and Taylor was night and day out there. But still a hard no on Bader.
  21. If the experts on MLB are scratching their heads over the Falvey statements about reducing payroll, and somehow being able to improve on last season. I would say all the critical remarks on TD seem warranted. The cost of doing business it would seem should at least stay where it was in 2023. How the FO wants to put together a better team while cutting costs will make for an interesting watch to be sure. Because to win it all, which we're told is the yearly goal. The Twins have to get better. Maybe it's just a smokescreen. We'll see. At this point I'm not overly optimistic. Jmtc.
