  1. Yeah, I think Wallner and Varland have intangible value to the Twins as hometown kids. Fan-favorites who sell jerseys, especially if they really pop off.
  2. On the other hand, maybe the price of free agents will be driven down.
  3. It's used on here as a synonym for "unattainable."
  4. Jersey patch sponsorship could eat some of the difference between the Bally deal and the new deal.
  5. Also, I think it's fair to wonder if Minnesota might be a more attractive free agent pitching destination than in years past, since the pitching staff seemed to have been able to get the most out of the pitchers this year.
  6. Last year prior to the Lopez trade, we had Gray, Mahle, Ryan, Maeda, and Ober lined up for the rotation, and that seemed pretty good. In my mind, this year's rotation looks about the same as that, with Lopez stepping into the Gray role of proven good arm. Paddack stepping into the role of Mahle as a guy with great potential but a lot of injury question concerns, Ryan and Ober both occupying the Ryan role with no clear Maeda equivalent, and Varland being a rough equivalent to Ober at this time last year. Guy who could stick but has yet to prove himself. I'd say next season's rotation looks about the same quality as last season's rotation did at this time a year ago with Lopez looking better than Gray did at that time, Varland looking shakier than Ober did at that time, and one less big injury question mark with Maeda not necessarily in the plans. I think the front office is definitely going to be shopping around the trade market, and there will probably be a trade.
  7. I think Miranda might be healed and potentially good again by next year. No idea how much HIS shoulder issue impacted his performance this year.
  8. Honestly, if a pro athlete can walk away from tens of millions of dollars to spend a few more years with family full-time, kudos to him. Not a lot of people are capable of saying "I have enough money."
  9. I believe that they will trade for a starter, they always do. And we will very likely give up someone we like a lot in order to get one. This year's good rotation was built by throwing a lot of starting pitching trades at the wall and seeing what stuck, seems like the best way to repeat the results is to keep doing it. As it stands, next year's rotation looks about as good and has about as many question marks as this year's rotation did prior to the Pablo Lopez trade. Maybe more since Varland doesn't seem like as much of a lock as Ober did this year.
  10. At the beginning of the season we were all saying that it would be a success if the Twins won a playoff game. They did that and more. I had a lot of fun, and I have a lot of hope for the future. Obviously I'd be even happier if they went further or if the last two games were less obviously flawed, but this is the best postseason we've had since I started watching. I'll take it, happily.
  11. I assume the Rays ownership is getting what all the baseball owners want with these recent stadium deals: A big chunk of real estate adjacent to the stadium that they can profit from regardless of whether or not the team draws.
  12. Very thoughtful of the Twins to drop one for the fans who already took Wednesday off work.
  13. Got my standing-room-only ticket for game 3. No need for game 4, Twins will sweep.
  14. Obviously doesn't tell the whole story, but Ober's ERA for the season is still 2nd best among Twins starters. I think he's earned this.
  15. It's really silly that they're building in St Petersburg again, and they're building a dome again. Feels like the only thing that's changing here is that it will be new, which only works as long as it's new.
  16. Bullpen looks like a brick wall so far this postseason. No hope for the opposing team when the starter is pulled. Also the starter is good. I understand what they were going for pulling Berrios, if I was managing a postseason team and had a lot of faith in my bullpen I might do the same: Get the Twins' lefty hitters out of the game early by playing a lefty pitcher, relying on Rocco to aggressively pinch-hit, then go back to righties after the bench is depleted. Then I don't have to worry about Kirilloff or Wallner or Julien for the rest of the game. Could've worked if Kikuchi had it today. As an opposing manager who had studied the tape, I would trust a lefty starter to hold off the Twins for a few innings.
  17. Juiced ball stadium doesn't count. Take away all wins in Denver and they have yet to win a single game.
  18. Farmhead and Plankhead are frauds, they can't manage. I speak for ALL Twins fans when I say we want ROCCO back, TOMORROW!!!
  19. Hold your heads high, A's, Moneyball is a better movie than Little Big League an nobody can take that away from you.
  20. As luck would have it, someone was in my seat when I got here, so I sat down in a random seat in an empty row. The rightful owner showed up, and I argued that he should go ahead and take it while he argued that I should go ahead and keep it
  21. Debuting my new favorite item of Twins memorabilia tonight
