  1. Long time til draft. Wait and see who all jumps this year and then make a decision. LOTS of red flags, so there may very well be better or at least as promising players coming to light available at #8.
  2. I have to agree with others that while he looked good in his debut, the sample size is much to small to get too carried away. These are very good hitters that make adjustments as they see video and the more they see the better adjustments they make. So the question I ask is can Ryan make small adjustments at this early stage of his career to keep these hitters of balance? Only time will tell. If he can we should have a quality starter for the next few years.
  3. Once again its the young guys or the "little" guys that feel the pain while the older uber rich guys that have lots of dough sit on their butts and stubbornly wait for the other side to cave. Shame on BOTH sides of you. Think about these kids. Get back to the table and try to negotiate in GOOD faith like you truly WANT an equitable deal instead of this "stick it to the other side" attitude.
  4. I don't see Polo moving back to short. I dont think Larnach starts at bigs either, and am not so sure about Rooker.
  5. Neither side gets to cry poverty. BOTH sides are stinkin rich. Owners of a business should make money as should employees. However it seems that in the case of pro ball they are trying so hard to beat each other they HAVE forgotten about the good of the game. IMO especially the players have no concern for the game. BOTH sides need to pull their heads out of their butts and act like grown adults, sit down and figure this out NOW! If they really wanted a true arbiter they only need to get a panel of real fans and get their input on what they want to see for rules. Then they could haggle out pay. Of course that would make too much sense.
  6. OK While I agree completely with your argument about arm strength, there is something else to take into consideration IMHO. The way clubs are shifting. In the old days a ss would be making a lot of throws from deep in the hole, but these days not so many. 45 years ago when I played in college the guy with the arm was actually the 3rd baseman. The ss we had was very quick to get rid of the ball which made up for the fact his arm, though strong and accurate, wasnt as strong as the 3rd. Now it seems like 3b is at ss with the shift many times anyway. I'm guessing arm strength is why the Twins dont want to give him a chance at ss on a regular basis, and since they have watched him through his entire career in the minors I'm sure they have a good reason. But after watching a season of an almost automatic out at the plate I sure would like to try something (not named Polanco) at short.
  7. I can agree with you on most of the coaches that I know, but I'm still not sold om Rocco as the leader of the group, though I do think he should get another year to see what he can do with a much younger team. I would really like to see this team get back to fundamentally sound baseball. I havent seen this yet out of the Rocco regime.
  8. I don't know that I can really agree about the hirings. they have hired 1 manager and IMO the jury is still out on that hire.
  9. I think the lack of publicity hurts us as much as weather. We don't get the same press headlines and stories that the coasts get, we don't get as much time on national news like ESPN highlights that the coasts get either. Face it, there is a reason we are considered "fly over" country.
  10. I love the Athletic. A great sports section. Worth the price.
  11. With no ss on the roster I wonder what the coaches have seen that sour them on giving Gordon a shot. He played there his entire minor league career so there must be some flaw they see. Anyone know what it is?
  12. While I think it would be great adding Story, I just don't see it happening. It makes alot of sense (maybe too much) to shore up the Defense behind thr young guns as they develop. However, this FO to date just seems they are against BIG contracts that are long term and slightly risky. Other than the Donaldson deal They really don't have any record of long term FA big money contracts. As I remember, Cruz only got 1 or 2 years. Buxton is not a FA. Am I missing anyone?
  13. I can see a trade working out depending of course on who we trade back. I think Odo still has some value, and I have more faith in him at this point than Bundy.
  14. I agree that 2020 was a good year for him, but he still is an above average #3 or #4 starter.
  15. I don't think the majority of the owners or the players care at all about public perception anymore, its all about the money. Billionaires and millionaires and other players that make the kind of money that most of us only dream of, playing a game that many of us play or played in the past for fun. Once again the total stupidity on BOTH sides will cost tens of thousands (maybe more) casual fans. The same sport that has been trying to tweek the rules to keep the interest of those very fans. How stupid!
  16. These youngsters can learn a lot from JD. He still is a very good ball player. As the article says last years miserable record can't be pinned on him. I personally would like to see a little more spunk out of some of these guys.
  17. I have to go with Santana. He was One of if not the best starter of his time. Yes he didn't get complete games, but he was dominate while he was in. Not a lot of guys with 2 (should be 3) Cy Youngs out there. It may be interesting to get input on voting from players in the same timeframe as the nominees on the ballet. I would guess an awful lot of hitters would give either one of these 2 pitchers thumbs up!
  18. I guess we need lots of minor league players signed in case the CBA deadlock continues so they can use some non union players to start the season. (Just kidding I hope)
  19. Tori has a bit of a chance IMO. He did play on the coast for a while, and he was extremely popular with the writers. The HR robbing catch of Bonds in the Allstar game also gave him a very big star moment. Not that he actually gets in though I think he deserves too, he could stay on the ballet for a while.
  20. I watched these guys when they first came up before any of the steroid use and they were extremely good even then. I don't know (or condone) why they started using but I imagine it was as they started to age a bit it was a way to "bounce back" after a game. I also imagine they were sold on the idea by smooth talking reps. Yes it was wrong, but it was never proven, neither player ever tested positive. IMO they belong in the hall. After all we all make bad decisions at some point don't we? In the grand scheme of life, is this that bad of a decision if indeed it really did happen?
  21. Couldn't have said it better!
  22. I believe in innocent until proven guilty myself. I wonder how many pitchers are going to be questioned about using a foreign substance to increase the spin rate? I think I heard somewhere that is against the rules.
  23. One person comes to mind right away and that's Jim Kaat. Over the years of hearing his broadcasts I have to say he is the best at breaking down the smaller parts of the game.
  24. I would try Gordon at short before moving Polo. Not just for a few games, but give him 40 to 50 games there so the kid gets settled in. I really don't want to keep jerking Polo around from short to second. He is one of our most important pieces and should be treated as such!
