Its a little hard to compare when some of the guys that are mentioned were in the era of 4 starters in the rotation so they got a lot more starts. Also I'll add in that I feel (as many others) that Santana should have won 3 straight Cy Youngs!

How Should the Twins Treat First Base This Offseason?
Karbo replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO look at either Julian who has experience though not much, or convert Polo, like they did with Carew so many years ago. I would also bring back Solano.- 14 replies

Internal Options to Replace Sonny Gray
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
According to "The Athletic" the Twins baseline payroll including arbitration with Farmer is between 110-120 mil. That includes both Kepler and Polanco. Of course that doesn't include Gray or Mahle or Gallo.- 51 replies

What if Rocco Baldelli is Actually a Good Manager?
Karbo replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Managers have to manage the players the front office gives them. This year they gave Rocco a good, not great, team that was deep. Last year they didn't give him as deep of a team and paid dearly when they had so many injuries. It seems Rocco is learning and improving. My biggest concern is what seems to be a lack of focus on fundamentals. Maybe they do in the spring, but it doesn't carry over into the regular season. That said, things did look slightly a lot better this season. Or is that because everything looks better when they win?- 49 replies

Internal Options to Replace Sonny Gray
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't think he's a bad 2nd baseman. Better than Julian defensively. IMO Julian needs to prove himself. Sure, he looked good at the plate for part of the year but I need to see him do it for a 2nd year. Besides that, IMO, Julian should be tried at 1st base. He has a little time there, and I don't think we can count on AK to stay healthy. I hope I'm wrong, but AK seems to be going down the same path as a broken Buxton.- 51 replies

Internal Options to Replace Sonny Gray
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I see what you're saying, but I just don't agree. I don't think they can get anyone that would be as impactful as Polo from another team. Do you have any teams in mind and what do you see as an equal or better trade?- 51 replies

Internal Options to Replace Sonny Gray
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I can't imagine Gray would accept the QO. He wants to test free agency. If history tells anything, its that some club will over pay with a longer term than reasonable. The question will be if he wants to play for that team in that city?- 51 replies

Internal Options to Replace Sonny Gray
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't understand why so many want to get rid of Polo. He is a good hitter and one of the best clutch hitters on this team. He has a very reasonable contract by todays standards and plays a decent 2nd base. He is known as a team player. Just the kind of player a team wants!- 51 replies

They should all look at what Jeffers did this year with 2 strikes. He still lets it rip until he has 2 strikes but he has the best 2 strike approach on the team. Getting rid of Gallo will help. Maybe Correa getting healthy will too. After that it's as simple as slightly altering the approach. The experience the 3 rookies got this year should help also. It's early in the career for the rookies, but I could see both Lewis and Wallner being capable of driving in 100 and Wallner could hit 40 HR's. It isn't hard to imagine Julian scoring 100 if he gets some clutch hitting behind him. IMO he should work on stealing bases more.

I have hope that experience will help the rookies become better at knowing the strike zone. As far as the umps go, well that's another story for another time.

The Best Case Scenario for Byron Buxton

Are the Twins Closer to a World Series?
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
While I agree with most of what you said, I do think the experience that Ryan and Ober had should have them better prepared if they get there again. Same with Wallner. The other 2 rookies, Julian and Lewis did just fine.- 40 replies

Are the Twins Closer to a World Series?
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO a much better 2 strike approach could make a big difference. I'm not saying become contact hitters, let it rip until there's 2 strikes, then shorten up a bit.- 40 replies

The 2023 Twins Had a Near-Perfect Roster
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO they need a RH hitting 1st baseman, at least 2 quality relievers, and a RH hitting outfielder that can hit with power and hopefully be adequate in CF. That's a big shopping list for the FO to work on!- 17 replies

An article I read quoted Gray as saying that the dollars won't be the deciding factor. He said his family likes it here and that he is happy here. I'm still thinking he leaves but there is a chance he stays.
-
I hope you're wrong, though what you say makes sense.
-
Why do you think they non-tender Farmer? Everything I've heard about him is positive and he's a decent fielder and hitter, especially against lefties. With this team being a primary LH hitting club they need a guy like Farmer.
-
No doubt Lopez looks the part of an ace. The hitters failed us in this post season, not the pitchers. Julian and Lewis were great, which gives me hope for the future. I'm guessing the twins will make a qualifying offer to Gray, but my guess is someone else will offer him a longer term with more money. That leaves Lopez, Paddack, Ober, Ryan, and probably Varland unless Maeda decides to stay. IMO they need to add a couple more relievers and maybe a 1st baseman that can crush. Otherwise, they need to work on cutting down the K's. Now its time for the Wild!

Breaking Down the Pitch That Sunk the Twins in Game 3
Karbo replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A bad day for Gray to be sure. Now its time for his teammates to pick him up by getting a win tonight. AK is out with an injury and Buxton comes in to take his roster spot. -
I have said for several years that umps favor veterans over young guys. It just seems that a vet will get the advantage of doubt where the rookie or younger player wont.
