  1. IMO that would be way too much to give up for a guy that has had 1 good year. The deal for Lopez was getting a guy that had plus stuff. His biggest issue pre-trade was staying healthy.
  2. IMO it depends on who they trade (if anyone) this off season. If they trade Kepler, then moving polo or Julian makes sense. If they trade Polo, problem solved. If they don't trade either, DH van be a revolving door. A lot of people are planning on DH being for Buxton. That didn't work last year so why think it will this year? IMHO Buxton plays in the field or he doesn't play!
  3. I don't see either of these as a realistic deal. Trying to trim payroll and taking on Goldy's salary or 1 year of Alonso. If they have that kind of money to use, go for pitching!
  4. If there was a good pitcher with multiple years of control I could see a trade of either Kep or Polo, but mot both. I wonder if maybe they should wait and see how they each look. There is always the trade deadline where the value may even be better, or not.
  5. With the salary issue, the only possibility I see would be Ramirez, but I really like the Diaz idea.
  6. I don't think the priority should be on the bat. If money is tight use it on Pitching.
  7. It would all depend on the price. Don't think I would give up a high prospect in addition to Kepler, but a mid ranger might be worth it. Big gamble on the shoulder issue though. The FO can get his medical records though and I'm sure they will. Interesting idea, real possibility's.
  8. That's what I said. Mahle for next season and Maeda for this season to bridge the gap. Just wasn't clear enough.
  9. I would love to get Burnes, but is it worth 1 year of control for the prospects? I would feel more likely but the payroll crunch says no. Keller is an interesting idea depending on cost. I think even if they don't add a starter they should win the central. That said I would look into signing Mahle for next year, and maybe Maeda to bridge the gap?
  10. The only so called negative is lack of HR's. I don't think the move to 1B should hurt him much. He was truly a great player and person. I'll be pulling for him!
  11. With the payroll being cut trading seems the only path forward. However, again due to payroll, how can they expect to pay any 3 or 4 star starter? I believe all named above are on expiring contracts. I don't think trading near MLB talent for a rental is a very good idea. Time for front office to dig a little deeper and find a guy under control for a few years that has the potential to become a 3 star or better starter. Imo they can re-sign Maeda (depending on salary) and the rotation will be good enough with some depth to win the division. That gives a little more time to develop a fringe starter into a plus starter.
  12. Take away Gallo and Grays and Maedas salaries and even with an increase in some of the other salaries they shouldn't need to cut much if any more. This is a mid market team that must depend on the development of their own players and trades to stay competitive. Seems like the past couple years maybe we goy a little spoiled with their spending. Even without adding any FA they should still take the Central IMHO.
  13. I say no at this point. 1 year of Alonso just isn't worth the price. With payroll needing to be trimmed I would rather see the pitching get the priority for spending. I would love to see him in a Twins uniform, but this doesn't seem like the right time.
  14. There are several who have come back, some stronger than before.
  15. I would make a serious push to get Woodruff. I would offer a 2 or 3 year deal to begin with. Less this year when he won't do much bet rehab, then big boost after. A deal like they did with Pineda, but with a much higher value. I would also try to re-sign Mahle. Woodruff has been a top tier starter for the last couple years, and Mahle isn't far behind.
  16. I can see a time this season where Martin is in CF, and Miranda in a platoon role with AK. at 1B. Depending on what happens in trades, I can imagine a scenario where AK gets moved to LF with Julian and Miranda splitting 1B. I think Kiersey gets picked in rule 5 draft. IMO Castro is the utility guy if he doesn't get traded. Not sure what will happen with Gordon, but at this point I don't envision him on the major league roster. Trades will happen, which will probably change a lot. They should trade for a solid 2-3 tier starter, and a big decision looms over Varland. Is he a 2-3 tier starter or is he a shutdown type of reliever. I honestly think the Twins will be very heavy favorites to win the central even if they stand pat. How far they go in post season will be determined by what they can get in trades IMO.
  17. I'm surprised at Jeffers being a negative. The others are about where I figured. It would be interesting to know what dragged Jeffers down.
  18. Looks like the Twins would be better off to try and work out a trade with someone.
  19. If the money is fairly even between MAI and Bader I would probably stick with MAT. But I would rather try Martin out there to save some payroll for pitching. Both relief and starters.
  20. Paddack has the potential to come fairly close to Gray. Then signing Maeda or someone in that tier is a pretty good bet. Then hope they get some improvement from Ober and Ryan they should be OK. The pitching wasn't the problem last season, it was the bats and clutch hitting IMO. At least if Gray leaves (as I think he will) they can save enough money to get a hitter that crushes lefties.
  21. I hope the TV deal gets worked out so we can tune in daily!
  22. Farmer probably but I don't think Polo will get traded until at least around the trade deadline. They will have to see if the rookies are for real before moving him.
  23. IMO calling up a few players like Martin will improve the team for a lot less money. I agree it's not a typical business, but they still have to make money as any other business does. My guess is that they will shoot for somewhere in the 140 mil range for payroll, which should be enough to keep this a good to very good team.
  24. It would be interesting to try to pickup Lee if the price is near the estimate. Otherwise maybe go for MAT again and offer Cron a minor league with invite type contract. Otherwise try to low ball Solano, or work out a trade.
