  1. I want to see Romero PITCH. and be successful pitching. Then we can figure out if he should be a starter or relever. Just throw the ball over the dang plate and watch the batters not hit him successfully. No trickery. No subterfuge. Throw his best pitches where the catcher tells him to and see what results.
  2. Yea...bring them all up. I am sure we can use them all at least once
  3. I pray that umps stop calling balls & strikes. That will make this excellent analysis moot.
  4. Just think. Without this breech of the "unwritten rules" we wouldn't be having this robust discussion. I love baseball
  5. Cron is playing hurt and doing the best he can. His injury is obviously affecting his fielding. Remember how solid he was at first before the injury and how shaky he is now. The solution is not easy to find for Baldelli. Sano seems to be more engaged, when he plays 3b. Adrianza doesn't hit enough to play first base as a regular. There must be a reason for NOT playing Marwin at first. I'd love to see them bring up Kiriloff, (ML Playing time be damned) but the likelihood of Kiriloff being more effective than the guys we got is probably small. So Baldelli struggles on with Cron, hoping he will turn the corner, and we hope Baldelli makes the right decisions,
  6. Ricky Ramirez. I wonder who made the decision on how to use him? The front office or the Manager?
  7. Remember the 2002 World Series ? All I remember was a 20 year old Rookie mowing down the batters. Francisco Rodriguez. What a pleasure that was to watch (and I loathe the Angels). Maybe thats what Brusdar Graterol can do for us ? Maybe ?
  8. I looked him up on MiLB and he does have interesting stats.
  9. Even if the Twins had over-overpayed for Greinke, there is no guarantee that we would have gotten past the first round of the playoffs. With luck being the main factor in post season play, lets see how this team does.
  10. I've come to 2 conclusions. 1) The Twins should NOT overpay with top prospects for ANY starter. Our starters are good enough to do the job. 2) We could trade a Minor League reliever for a rental reliever, but I would be careful which reliever we overpay with. BECAUSE: When a team gets to the Playoffs and World Series luck plays a big part of the success of any team. Just because we get an ace reliever or starter, doesn't mean he will shut down the opposing team in a critical situation. Good hitters hit good pitchers sometimes. All the contending teams are loaded with good hitters. Conclusion: Lets go with what we have. Lets trust the last half of the season to the AAA pitchers we have seen. Some of them look like they will work out just fine.
  11. It sounds like Royce Lewis has been well coached in what to say and how to say it. It may not be very exciting, but it shows the lad is paying attention.
  12. I'll rent Baumgartner & Smith for Javier & Thorpe. They may turn into fine MLB players, but MadBum & Smith could win us a World Series.
  13. Universal designated hitter ? Fine. Change the rule about moving or substituting the DH. Let the DH move to the field, if necessary and let a new player bat as DH. Make no pretense about letting pitchers hit. Who wants to watch all those automatic outs. The occasional hit does not justify the automatic out in the 9th hole. The Mound visit rule has not shortened the game at all. Put a clock on all mound visits and if they don't go over a certain amount of time, allow as many as a team feels they need. Just make them short. No to the 3 batter rule. If a player plans to replace a pitcher after one batter, let the 2nd pitcher be ready immediately and go to the mound as soon as the batter has had his turn at bat. No mound meetings. No fooling around. Just get to it and do it. Of course rosters should be expanded to 26. but 13 of them must be players and ONLY 13 may be pitchers. Keep using the 20 second pitch clock in the minors until everyone is sure that all the bugs have been worked out.
  14. I think North Carolina should have a team. It is a populous state with a great baseball tradition.
  15. so this means that if the Twins needed to bring up a spot starter for one game, Sean Poppin has looked better than Devin Smeltzer in June..... Interesting ....
  16. We get good news and bad news. The good news is that we have a whole group of new names to look forward to watching. The bad news is that most of the names that we're used to seeing have failed us and are gone.
  17. Reading these picks and looking at the stats, I think it is reasonable to take a spectators view of their results. We cheer the good games and jeer the bad ones, and at the end of the year we reevaluate their progress. However, it is unfair to the players to project too high an expectation of them. They may excel at one level and stumble at the next, and we get the pleasure of watching their progress. Wherever they rank, Luis Arraez, Austudillo, Zach Littel & Lewis Thorpe are the top rookies in our system because they are the ones that are currently playing for the Twins.
  18. The defensive stats are not what they seem. We see errors and the official scorekeepers call them hits. Since it happens everywhere, we trust that the stats will even out. Statistically (According to MLB.com) the Twins are ranked in the middle of the pack. That seems about right. However, we seem to be killed by throwing errors. I have no idea how to quantify this, except to keep a game by game log of fielding and throwing blunders regardless of how they are scored. If you focus on throwing errors, the solution is fairly simple. Examine the defenders priority's and change them so that players don't make the desperate throw's. Perhaps, given the player's competitive natures, this may be simpler said than done.
  19. Arraez is a stud. Instead of waiting till 2020, trade Schoop for some talent and make Arraez the everyday 2b.
  20. About Diaz. Remember how we heard good things about Kepler but didn't see much of it until he reached AA, where he raked. Raking in AA is a good sign. Diaz is raking in AA. Maybe he'll follow Kepler into the Majors.
  21. NOTE: Derek Molina RHP & Zach Neff LHP were jumped from Cedar Rapids (A) to the Wahoo's (AA). Big jump or typo ?
  22. We should have gotten Brad Hand when he was playing for SD. If we get him now, we pay thru the nose.
  23. The best part about a bad game, is I can turn it off and walk away. Reading about it doesn't make it better, but I do it anyway.
