  1. Not sure Kepler is still playing defense at even an average level. Maybe his head is too screwed up by his hitting to let his defense shine.
  2. Do they not teach hitters to protect the plate with two strikes on them? That was fundamental baseball when i was a kid (note: that was a long time ago). Standing at the plate and watching strike three right down the middle because you guessed wrong is stupid. Hey, just stick the bat out! Maybe the ball will hit it.
  3. It looks like Maeda's going about 4-5 innings per outing. Maybe piggyback Ober and Maeda where they can get the most out of Maeda and limit Ober's innings. I don't like it much but it could possibly work until there is an injury to the starting staff.
  4. I have to disagree. I am old enough to have seen all of them in person. They were truly excellent outfielders. For the most part they also were very clutch hitters. I only saw Tovar play outfield once so a very small sample. Allison and Oliva were great hitters and smooth outfielders. Oliva was really hurt by knee injuries. The later guys on the list were all good too. Not sure what your criteria was but, it does not match mine.
  5. The Martin news is really nice. If he could pan out it could be a big addition (maybe CF?). At this point I really am not concerned whether he hits for power. Just hit, Baby!
  6. Let's be honest. Cole in NYC will win it. He probably will deserve it and that will be fine but let's not get confused about a comparison between NYC and the corn fields.
  7. The game was fun to listen to on the radio as I was traveling. The inning+ that Barney was in the booth was hilarious. She and the California Kid really did a bang up up job.
  8. Has anyone heard anything about Martin? There should be some kind of plan by now, I would think.
  9. Larnach demoted for lack of consistency; Walter in St Paul and has similar traits as Larnach; Martin on IL for who knows how long; Lewis and Lee should stay in the infield. Max may be finally settling into a consistent above average player His age and cost will have a big say in what his future is with the Twins. i want him to succeed and stay (but I must admit he is my wife's favorite player which would bring harmony to my household)
  10. Now that was an ugly day for the whole organization. Hope they got it out of their system.
  11. Has Polanco done anything at the plate yet? I am getting really worried about him this year.
  12. A lot of folks also do not get that the A's have virtually no area in the Bay area to claim as their own. I don't remember the facts but decades ago the A's had to forfeit their territory rights to the Giants and were only able to keep the Oakland/Alameda territory while the Giants got all the rest. That severely diminished the value/profit of the A's. MLB was a major player in this decision. i the nk it happened back in the Charlie Finley era.
  13. Definitely worried about Polanco's hitting. He has not shown anything this year as far as I can tell.
  14. One thing to really be excited for is to see C.B. Buckner behind the plate with robe ump. Could be hilarious. I can see him giving the robot ump the toss.
  15. Thank you for the info. And you are right that there was not much difference. I would hope that because he is healthier this year that the stats will improve.
  16. So what's the plan if Gallo's season last year is the new norm for him? The Twins have a good supply of good hitting outfielders. Do they just sit him on the bench or put him on waivers or just keep trotting him out there to be a hole in the lineup?
  17. i am wondering and do not know the answer, but what is Buxton's hitting record as a DH? I know I have read that he does not like to DH and there are plenty of guys who do not preform as well when batting as the DH.
  18. Watching Gallo at 1st base right now and he looks pretty good defensively.
  19. I feel great that we haven't heard (yet) the annual phrase "They won't need to put the #4 and #5 starter until .... Usually that is a blessing but this year they have the horses to get the job done.
  20. I am of the opposite opinion. This team may very well be much more fun to watch. They have the guys to play very solid defense with possible exception at 3rd base. As hitters they have guys that can spray the ball around the park. It shouldn't be a case of strike out or home run. I may be wrong as i usually am with the Twins, but that is my opinion.
  21. I agree with Cris E. April and September will be won in the trainers room. If the pitching staff can make it through spring training and Buxton can hold on, the Twins have a shot.
