Citing an unsigned player from last year who was granted free agency rather than arbitration as a similarity to Taylor’s situation sites a new mark for baffling. Oakland did not want to pay another almost 3 mil for a player who’s OPS+ was closer to a president’s age than league average shouldn’t come as a shocker

I think the green M&Ms taste better than the red ones. I also remember people saying Berrios was too small to be a great pitcher. It really doesn’t matter which on is ranked over the other. They are both in development and Festa got a head start ________ missed 20– due to a ligament tear that required Tommy John surgery, and then he struggled to miss bats in 20– and 20– while throwing a nearly elite level of strikes. His stuff is up. His fastball sat in the 92-96 range with life last year and touched 97. _______ does it easy and commands his fastball, average breaking ball, and changeup. He’s gone from projecting as an up-and-down arm to a potential No. 4/5 starter in the last year. Fill in the name blanks. What Festa or Raya can or can not be is far from determined or determinable

The Twins will always need to accumulate high quality prospects. Getting another first round draft pick for nothing would be a Twins thing to do Lee might make the opening day roster for that purpose. If he shines, great. If he doesn’t, AAA and the year clock gets put back on hold. If the FO didn’t think he was going to be a quality major league player they would have traded him like they did Steer. Risk/reward. You do have to admit the front office has taken risks in trades. Could he win ROY. It is not out of the question. He would probably have to hit about .290 with 40 doubles and a few HR (basically the second coming of Joe Mauer). Wether the computer data of his hit metrics indicates he could do that are not requires a geek to come up with that answer. This might be the first idea by Ted I praised.

Some clubs have done well with the disgruntled types. Even the Yankees had to move on from Donaldson.

Will The Twins Get Their Postseason SP?
old nurse commented on Doctor Gast's blog entry in Doctor Gast's Blog
If Ober, Ryan and Paddack are not playoff pitchers adding one is of little use. How quickly people forget the Houston series -
Are the Twins collecting these pitchers for batting practice? This way maybe their hitters will learn what a pitch out of the strike zone looks like and will learn what to do

Without Seager and Garcia Texas might not have been in the WS. It is more than just pitching. Sonny Gray had a bad game against Houston. It takes more than 2 pitcher. When the Mets had the 4 aces, the did not win. It will always be a team game in the bigger picture. If Paddack, Ober and Ryan are not capable of being pitchers that rise up for the playoffs, the 5th pitcher does not matter.

Blue Jays Turning Away Alek Manoah Trade Offers
old nurse replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Manoah had a bad year. The year before he was an all star and placed third in Cy Young. A team is not trading for last year’s pitcher but think he can return to the previous form. 4 more years of team control. They are not going to trade him unless it is a top 10 prospect and one almost that good, plus’s a couple of high ceiling lottery tickets. Pitching is not going to come cheaply unless it is cheap pitchers. Mow if he is having a mediocre season in 24 he might be obtainable for a Gonzales and a high upside prospect but Toronto will not have fixed the problem -
They did as they said they would in trading need for need. They need a starter and a reliever, they got them. Along the way they picked up prospects because they picked up a back of the rotation starter for a good position player. Both sides are correct . Should have they picked up a better starter? They either have confidence in Ober, Ryan and Paddack it doesn’t matter, or they have so little confidence it does not matter. A rated low minor prospect has a better chance for success than an equally rated high minor prospect . Neither player may end up a star, but the likelihood of them being of value is good.

Essentially it all depends on where the final prospect ranking ends up. They are both young player being ranked while playing in the low minors. If their rankings don’t go up the most likely outcome is bust.

From SB Nation fansite for Seattle Darren Bowen, RHP Age: 23 / B/T: R/R / Drafted: 2022 / Final level in 2023: A / MLB ETA: 2026 After being drafted in the 13th round out of UNC-Pembroke, Darren Bowen started his career a bit later than his fellow draftees after rehabbing an injury from college. Upon his debut, he took the league by storm and posted some eye-catching numbers out of the gate. With a mid 90’s fastball that gets ridiculous ride and a dynamite slider that makes batters look foolish, Bowen has some nasty stuff that tracks to play at the next level. He worked as a starter for Modesto, though much of the year was spent building up his innings and no start eclipsed six innings. He does walk a fair amount of batters, but it’s not an overwhelming problem that prohibits him from starting. Seattle seems to view him as a starter and he will be given the opportunity to do so, but an eventual move to the bullpen is not out of the question. Should this change be necessary, the stuff will absolutely play and he’d immediately be a potential leverage reliever. He’s an arm to watch for this upcoming season; he’s already attracting a lot of attention outside the system among pitching wonks for his pitch data. The one thing holding us back from ranking him more highly is needing to see if he can harness that command better in longer stretches. 22

If they start the season with a four man rotation there is a spot for a couple of weeks. From there things have a way of disintegrating

Players who have had success will get a chance until it is proven without a doubt they are cooked. You also have to look at what type of teams are signing these players. Washington was a very bad team. Gallo is not going to change that. He will be a cheap fill in until prospects develop. He did play wherever he was asked to play. He is probably a good attitude guy to have on a developing team. Sano may have been signed to fill a hole in the AAA team. He might kill AAA pitching and draw fans

When the Twins brass said about trading need for need that would pretty much indicate the off season plan and these free agent would not affect each other. There are different levels of performance as well as position

Does Aaron Hicks Come Full Circle?
old nurse replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I thought Castro was the do it all backup. The year before it was Gordon (Cave, Rob R, Celestino, ……) for 2024 the teams needs a new flavor. I am afraid that anybody new and cheap will have the flavor of bitter lemon -

Does a first baseman get to count the 1200 putouts to go with plate appearances Did the pitcher who finished with more batters faced have a higher ERA? Just a glance, the higher inning pitchers seemed to have a lower WHIP

How the Twins Handled a Banned Shift in Year One
old nurse replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Gordon and Miranda injured,, Sanchez land Cave et go, Arraez and Urshela traded. Celestino did not make it back. Comparing the two years is kind of pointless when almost half of the AB from 22 were not a factor for 23 -
