  1. If Pineda is not hurt the Yankees do not make the trade.. Severino and Montgomery were young and upcoming, Tanaka and And Sabathia had longer contracts. With a healthy Pineda there is no need for Gray. He was dumped for peanuts
  2. Happ is twice as disappointingly as anyone else?
  3. The value in Gray and Quintana were not in the length of contract. The Cubs were coming off a WS win and desperate to contend in the window. Pineda went down and the Yankees needed another starter. Supply and desperation determine the price paid, not the contract.
  4. Sonny Grey in a mid season deal netted 2 top 100 prospects, Quintana netted a top 15 and a top 100 prospect. There is an error in your calculator.
  5. The Yankees probably have had their share of expensive oft injured outfielders on large contracts. Ellsberg, Stanton, Hicks, Judge. Boston has also had recent experience with the expensive injury bug. The Dodgers are pretty set in the outfield.
  6. Any prospect not major league ready with an upside
  7. It is the curse of the Yankees. The only way to beat it is to do what the North Stars did to the Bruins.
  8. The grumpy fans are pretty much in a fantasy world long before there is talk of a curse
  9. Guardado for Mark Hamburger Escobar for Liriano Duran for Escobar. Marciel is still a prospect Little for Garcia was useful David Ortiz was a PTBNL deadline deal Joe Mays for Roberto Kelly Bobby Kielty brought back Stewart. He wasn’t a prospect but did have a couple of good years
  10. Theron lies the delegation. You don’t sign an oft injured player to a large deal. Buxton was not going to sign a team friendly deal. The same applies to trading him. You are not going to get an amazing return for a less than full time player. It isn’t on the FO in this case.
  11. What 5 players could not be traded is more appropriate to any conversation about trades. Any player can be dealt for a price. The question is what is the price? Buxton on a trade list. Last week it was the FO were idiots for not extending him
  12. I quit reading the article after the opening paragraph. Starting an article with such a false premise should have been edited out. Editing is changing a no no word to false. Is the new world order is to try to inflame the base?
  13. It would appear that Cruz has had an influence on Buxton. Too bad the other players do not have that kind of coach
  14. It is a 162 game season. That seems lost amongst the rants
  15. Varela has never been a hitting coach before, nor at this point likely to be poached for another job. Hernandez was not a hitting coach before he got the current position. He had been the assistant to Brunansky and Rowson yet not promoted after 6 years. That is telling his skill level. The Twins have people with a title.
  16. The Twins miss having a hitting coach
  17. Bluegill Hughes looked All Star Cy Young in May of 75 Chris Parmelee looked great in September 2011 Revisit this in a month or two. History does repeat itself
  18. Buxton has had one healthy season If he has 2 in a row he might get the big contract
  19. Does the health of Berrios’ arm follow that of Sale, Santana, and so many others or Verlander and so few others?
  20. So long of season, so few games to make judgements on
  21. Evans had only one season as a 40 hr guy and one season in his 30’s. Yastremski lost his power long before 40. Fisk had one season of 30 plus HR for a career, Musial quit being a HR guy by 37. Comparing them to Cruz is pointless. Bonds wrecked a knee at 40 and wasn’t the same player coming back. The lack of context in the comparison is appalling
  22. I thought I read that many teams will use 6 man rotations. Perhaps there is some Washington Senators fan from the 90s who can remember a team using less than 5 starting pitchers
