  1. No hit batters by the Yankees after they were down by 10 and giving up more runs.
  2. The Reds gave up a former all star, a top prospect, and more to get Bauer. That is a lot. To give up more would be crazy. Kennedy is above average in relief. Not elite as he is paid to be. Good arms from Miami. The Twins have good arms. I suppose the could have traded good arms for good arms but in the end you do not improve the team. The only thing it does is create new people for fans to complain about.
  3. Trades are weird when they involve prospects. What is comperable value in Toronto's mind? The view on prospects is different enough from evaluation group to another the further down from the top you get. Would you give up the 3 and 6 from the TD poll of prospects for Stroman (Graterol and Balazovic)? So the choice becomes one of many choices. It could be there is something the Blue Jays see in these prospects that others are not. Equally possible is that Ross Atkins get the "Bill Smith Bad Trade" traveling trophy from Neak Hunnington. The answer will not be known for years. There is this to consider. If Van Wagenen can get somebody to pay more for Stroman, he is ahead. If he gets someone to pay way more for Thor, he is ahead. If he can now get something of value for Wheeler, he may be ahead.
  4. The Mets must not think Kay is going to be much of a starter. You would not trade 6 years of a mid rotation starter for one full year of a front line starter. A high ceiling with a long shot of being a star. The other pitcher is in the low minors, also a high ceiling with a remote chance to get there. So the answer to your question is the Twins do not have to high ceiling pitching prospects that another team believes is but the Twins do not.
  5. 14 teams would have to go on an amazing winning streak to be in it. The Dodgers do not appear to be buyers. Boston does not appear to want to spend. Arizona is on the fringe. It is neither a buyers or seller market. For a team like San Diego that thinks they have the pieces to contend next year getting a player that will help you contend is a good decision. If another team likes your prospects better than you do the team is ahead.
  6. The Mets get a building block and a pitcher for next year, The Padres get an ace for longer. Unusualbut not bizarre. A team has to take advantage of a situation.
  7. b and c not true https://www.mlb.com/news/mets-rumors-latest-trades-and-signings
  8. Britton trade as a comp, the Orioles got back a once ranked starting prospect who has not panned out and 2 fringe relievers. The Twins could come up with that.
  9. Any player that is a rental should cost a player with a little bit better potential than a late first round pick. The Twins have plenty of those type of prospects without denting the farm system. A player with some level of control past the contract will require prospect capital. People have cited the Chris Archer trade as it is going to cost a lot. The Cole trade shows that sometimes it just costs a lot of bodies. It depends on the skill of the trader.
  10. The experts did not put Deeds in a top 10 http://www.startribune.com/a-look-back-prospect-lists/111022994/
  11. Look hard and see what you are buying and selling. Houston gave up really nothing to get Verlander and Cole. Sale could have been considered stolen at this point. Archer was bought high with two prospects that worked out. Sell every player on the team if you can make that kind of trade. Which prospects does a team trade. The ones that other teams value more than you do. Prospects from a position of strength, The ones who will not be future all stars.
  12. Giving up your 176th best prospect could be a huge mistake.
  13. It was noted somewhere that he has had issues since childhood. If he has something like Chrohn's disease it was not a stretch.
  14. Pitching doesn't have to be expensive. Verlander cost nothing for Houston. The criteria is another team overvaluing your prospects Darvish really cost very little. 2 lottery tickets and a prospect with major league experience ranked outside the top 20 is not a great catch Given Bumgarner's no trade list, the Twins would have little competition for his services.
  15. Most Twins prospects aren't worth much. True. True for every organization in baseball. Including Dominican teams every organization has over 6 teams. Most players are not going to sniff a big league team unless they were ball boys in their youth. Fangraphs list 40 some players with a potential to be major league players, Sickels about 70 . There is value in that many players. There is value in a player having some sort of potential. A team can not trade for another player without having something to trade. Deluded? We statement. OK
  16. If you clear out some of the prospects that will be rule 5 eligible it would be a great trade.
  17. Is Colome better than Magill, Little or Morin? If all you give up are a few of the prospects that are lottery tickets then the team is better and you would be foolish not to make the trade.
  18. The Verlander trade shows that giving up medium prospects does not hurt your team. When Verlander did not immediately say yes to a trade to a team that has 7 current or former all stars on it and a former Cy Young winner that was a legitimate contender there is not much evidence to say he would have accepted a trade to the Twins coming off how many 90 loss seasons playing better than anyone expected. Given the top prospect list from 2017 https://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/11/8/13555840/minnesota-twins-top-20-prospects-for-2017 how many would have been missed in the system? Garver for sure, Likely Kirillloff, maybe on Romero Gonsalves or Thorpe but would not have missed it if one of them was traded at this time. The trade that was made that the Twins fans here should be mad about would be the Gerrit Cole trade. Near major league ready prospects or brief appearance prospects were traded. Moran has been a league average 3b
  19. A fresh voice instructing you on the same thing might be the first thing to consider. Different systems, same message. The second is that the voice has a little more weight from a team on a winning streak rather than a losing one. You also have to remember that Ryan was all Texan. Happy players play better.
  20. There is a premise that prospect rankings mean something more than the player has a Chance. Drew Henson sat near the top of these lists for a long time. That someone thought superstar is on them, not Sano. It is hard to be a failure as a superstar when the player never achieved it. Some players develop slower than others, see Nelson Cruz.
  21. Looked good. Until he did not
  22. Teams agree verbally to contracts. From MLB.com here are the penalties for going over A team that outspends its pool by 0-5 percent pays a 75 percent tax on the overage. At higher thresholds, clubs lose future picks: a first-rounder and a 75 percent tax for surpassing their pool by more than 5 and up to 10 percent; a first- and a second-rounder and a 100 percent tax for more than 10 and up to 15 percent; and two first-rounders and a 100 percent tax for more than 15 percent. In six years with these rules, teams have outspent their allotments a total of 95 times, but never by more than 5 percent. The sad tale of Brady Aikin, Jacob Nix Mac Marshal and the Astros. Ailin agreed to a below slot value which allowed the Astros to offer Jerome Nix and Marshall a 1.5 million dollar signing bonus. 2 parties with verbal agreements in place. The fateful MRI on Aiikin caused the Astros to lower their offer. Aiikin refused to sign. They couldn't sign Nix. In the end each player lost out on around a million dollars each. They also ended up each with UCL damage and missing time.. Houston came out way ahead. The following year they drafted Bregman in the second slot.
  23. The 78 ad highlighted 4 players, one was gone after that season, one gone in the middle of the next season, one a never developed. It shows why they are not showing ads highlighting players. Players go, the game itself stays. Interesting that they did not edit Dozier out of the commercial. I would guess running an ad in the game they would expect the people watching to already know who Rosario, Berrios and Buxton are.
