  1. For right handed power the Twins will have Sano, Plouffe (maybe), Dozier, and, as some point, Buxton. Also, our likely utility IF had the second highest OPS on the team. I'm high on Rosario, but he has not been an .800 OPS guy since high A ball. If anything, we maybe could use a LH power bat. And if Park is anything like we all hope he is, Arcia would have to have a Barry Bonds season to have a rival team be concerned about our LH power. Some variables have to break right, but there may be good things afoot.
  2. While it is true that Sano has never played outfield, consider this: Sano had never, NEVER played first base in a game since he signed with the Twins at age 16. Last season he spent parts of 2 games there. I think Molly has his own opinions and as long as he's in charge we may be surprised from time to time.
  3. Ben had a .342 OBP last year and he got better at the end of the year. An average bat, with speed, who can actually field? I think he would have numerous offers.
  4. This is interesting. I wonder how powerful their players union is. If the posted player were to be awarded 20% or 25% of the posting fee it would certainly make a difference.
  5. I am trying, and failing, to imagine a scenario whereby it would be wise for him, or any other foreign ballplayer, to come here if they didn't make more money here than they could in their current league.
  6. All excellent. Thank you. Very well said.
  7. I agree, but I rather expect him to be taken by someone. Maybe not. Maybe I'm very wrong. We'll soon learn.
  8. Hmmm. Maybe. But I wonder if the Twins could have gotten someone useful along with Murphy had they included Zach Jones (he of the 10 SO/9 in AA) along with Hicks.
  9. If May is included as a starter, the top five projected pitcher ERAs on the Twins next year are May, Berrios, Milone, Gibson and Duffy. Any chance the Twins will go with that rotation? None. You have the 3 highest paid pitchers on the team left off the list. Ain't gonna happen. A good, if depressing, article. Thanks. I think.
  10. I agree with Roger, although of course we all hope for that Morneau-like resurgance. As far as Mauer "only starting against RHP (or even less)" Mauer last year hit slightly better against LHP than RHP. The RHB vs LHP or LHB vs RHP is not always useful. You have to consider the player.
  11. I think the fact that when we traded Herrmann we got a guy with an .857 OPS in A+ ball that should tell us that catchers are expensive. Trade from strength and trade for need. I'm not sure this was a great trade, but I'm not willing to hang TR for it.
  12. Rosario's OBP in the minors was .340. Not amazing, but I expect him to improve from last year. Need more from the others, too. A bad thing.
  13. In 2014 there was a game the Twins won that was all Hermann's fault. I think he had a career game. He seemed a good guy. I wish him the best. The potential upside of Palka looks significant. I like this trade.
  14. I was hoping the Pirates would go far in the playoffs just so I could watch McCutchen play. That guy is awesome, apparently in a number of ways.
  15. Covering your bases, like a true baseball fan.
  16. Gilmartin greatly outperformed Graham in 2015. Just sayin'. (catcher) Boyer had an ERA of 2.49 and an ERA+ of 167. Those are pretty good numbers, especially in our pen. (catcher) O'Rourke and Achter had very poor seasons statistics-wise. They are 27 and 26 years old, respectively. Not sure how the future looks terribly bright for either in MLB. As always, it will be interesting to see what TR does in the off-season. (catcher) Maybe someone can use subliminal messaging to get TR to address major needs.
  17. I don't know any more about this guy than the article you referred to, but he looks pretty solid. $27 million for 7 years? That's a bargain in today's MLB world. For a guy who is 24 years old someone is going to try him out. Somehow, I suspect that guy's initials are not TR.
  18. Most importantly, I want to congratulate you on the shortest post ever to get a dialogue going.
  19. I like both of these charts. A position can look bad but a player at that position can look good. Is that player ready to field that position every day? I will admit to a little grin at Escobar's stats. While he certainly hasn't gotten much love at this site, some folks are coming around. Good, not great. But consistently good would be wonderful to have at a position like SS.
  20. Interesting data. Some time ago (last year?) someone at FanGraphs wrote an article about how the Oakland A's had no position player who was below average at their position. They didn't have very many really well known names, but they were usually playing guys who were above average. For the Twins, that would be (in order) Sano, Escobar, Dozier and Rosario. Pretty small group. Small enough to generate some concern from the GM?
  21. I love baseball. Everyone who knows me knows I love baseball. People talk to me about baseball all the time. I am a software consultant and so I am at different sites, lots of different companies. I have never, in all these years, ever heard anyone refer to Torii regarding his race except for a few times when people have pointed out how cool the Torii Hunter Project is. I'm not sure who you hang out with, but I'm glad I have never encountered those folks. You need to hang out with better (smarter) people.
  22. Once asked by another ballplayer what time it was, Yogi responded, "You mean right now?" (or so the story goes)
  23. I liked the way Gardy could get his team to shake off a loss and look really ready the next day, even after a thrashing (unless they were playing the Yankees). What I didn't like is that his loyalty to Anderson was greater than his loyalty to the Pohlads, the fans, or his players. Good luck to him. (kinda)
  24. Really like your assessments, especially regarding Robinson. Don't know why there is such a keen angst toward this guy. He has done everything asked of him, and he's done it better than at any other point in his career. Be sure to thank him on his way out the door. After keeping Graham on the roster all year following a Rule 5 draft, I'd be surprised to see him go. I'm not suggesting that his stats or age (he's 25 years old) warrant a long term commitment, but they seem to have kept him around for something. TR trying to catch lightening in a bottle again? Had high hopes for Oliveros a few years back, and for Arcia recently. It will be interesting to see what happens to these two players.
