  1. A lot to smile about for now. I'll take it.
  2. A 24 year old OF with a .210/.239/.306 (.545) slash line in AA. Um, why would they pick him up? Any help here? Are we shy in our AA OF?
  3. Maybe.... I believe that Hicks' ceiling is starting to look like a fair hitting good defense center fielder. Perhaps a 4th OF. I expect a more likely outfield late next season is Arcia, Buxton and Colabello.
  4. Nice catch gunnarthor. Fun article. And a Senator!
  5. Nice breakdown. It would be great if Plouffe and Dozier can continue to hit RH pitching. Really did not expect what we're getting from Plouffe. Very nice to see.

    Trevor Plouffe 2.0?

I think this is the start of a new Trevor Plouffe – one that should be a building block for the Twins in the coming years. Man I hope so. Really fun to see this former #1 draft pick looking like he belongs.
  7. Mudcat Grant won 21 games in 1965 and the Twins went to the World Series. As a kid I thought he was the greatest. Sausage and green olives.
  8. In the unlikely event the starting rotation all pitch 8 innings and he is not needed... um, never mind
  9. Great article. Thank John. Can't be happier for the guy. Sticking with his dreams and finally playing in MLB. (and rather well, I might add) Cool.
  10. Scratched out some tickets for today. I seem to have managed that every since the Twins moved to Target Field. Went to the home opener in 2010 and I'm hooked. Correia has an unusually strong record in April throughout his career. That, and it's time the Twins hit Kazmir. We all think he's great when we see him, but hitters not named Twins are capable of slapping the ball around when he pitches. Go Twins!
  11. That is truly amazing. Just cannot get over it.
  12. In 2010 the Twins had 5 players with an OPS of .800 or more.* Most of the projections above have 1 or 2 players with an OPS of .800 or more. We need a lot better for this year to be much different from the last 3. (* yes, it's a lie, but I counted Valencia's .799 as one of them. I did not count Luke Hughes and his 2 hits in 7 at bats)
  13. I was enjoying your post, but then I got to # 11. Now I'm sad.
  14. One of many valid points in this thread. I was shocked almost into optimism when TR actually signed free agents before March who other teams were interested in. Unfortunately I did not have the feeling that we were signing top of the rotation guys. Then we signed 3 pitchers. Hmmm. I realize 'you can never have too much pitching', but something is missing for me. Do we expect Gibson to do well? How about Deduno? And isn't Meyer in the wings? It started looking like TR kind of said to the Pohlads, "OK, you want me to sign some free agents? I'll sign some free agents". And nothing to address the offense. And as Willihammer so succinctly put it, losing 10 in a row takes a toll, even if they are Spring Training games. In spite of my frustration I have tickets to the home opener. I'm not much the type of fan who boos my team. I'll be cheering for these kids. Sure hope that gets easier in the next couple of years.
  15. Surprised that people are suggesting that Colabello be sent down. He has nothing left to prove in AAA. Kubel or Bartlett before CC.
  16. Nice write-up, Jorgenswest. Very few teams make significant improvements without getting younger. In the past couple of decades only the Yankees have had the money to have a team of aging players who are good enough to be in a HOF conversation. The other teams get better by getting new blood in the lineup. p.s. Earl Battey was a favorite of mine, too
  17. That is really odd. If Cabrera's agent was committed to getting the highest per year salary ever then the team could have protected themselves better than this. $32 Million/year for 5 years, with team options after that?
  18. Every baseball strike has been a sword to my heart. I can enjoy baseball even when the Twins are having a bad year (or several in a row), but those strike years hurt bad.
  19. I don't have a problem with the Pohlads making money. If $30M could make this team a genuine WS contender I would be all for that. I believe that, realistically, we need to bring along some of these young guys and get close. At that point, I would expect the team to step up and complete the roster with top Free Agents using all the resources available. I do not think that the team gaining $400M in value means that the Pohlads should go out and spend that 'paper value'. That really doesn't make sense, from a business standpoint.
  20. Birdwatcher - that was perfect. Cuz that's what it always comes down to.
  21. Very thoughtful. Useful to anyone who reads it. Thanks again, AJ.
  22. Against RH pitchers he's an upgrade over Plouffe, but he plays 3B and 1B. Certainly not going to supplant Escobar as utility IF. While I would like to see a platoon at 3B, I'm not sure we have the roster space. Nor do I believe that our manager has the will to do such a crazy, new trend thing as platoon players.
  23. “I’m not looking for a DH candidate in a catcher,” says Gardenhire. “I need two catchers. If I have that then I’m going to need three catchers and I don’t want to do that.” Honestly, does he think the sky will fall if a pitcher touches a bat? Wow. How many times has this scenario come to pass in the last 10 years. Twice?
  24. Hicks and Pinto - the Twins need offense wherever they can find it. I've been a fan of Hicks starting in AAA. No more. We need all the help we can get on offense and his upside has to be leveraged.
  25. I like the idea. His stats (FIP, etc.) are better than those of many. It seems a better option than some of the long shots the Twins have taken over the last couple of years.
